V outside the primeministers office, Israels diplo-matic plate in looked as i it wasbrimming over with not one, but twoentrees: Iran and the Palestinians.

Both issues were vitally important, both issues demanded enormousamounts o Prime Minister Benjamin

Netanyahus time, both were at thevery top o the international agenda.

But, truth be told, rom Netan-yahus perspective these are not twoequal entrees. Rather, there is themain course, and the ancillary one.And in his mind the primary maincourse is obviously Iran.

Faced with an existential threat, and a serious problem that needs tobe resolved, the existential threat willalways take precedence.

And there is no one who emergedin as a more important player onthe Iranian issue than Irans PresidentHassan Rouhani.

Rouhani, though long an importantactor on the Iranian scene, was rela-tively unknown to the Israeli publicuntil he emerged as thevictor in IransJune elections. But once he won thoseelections and embarked on his charmoffensive, particularly with his trip tothe United Nations in September, hesignificantly changed the discussion

on Iran.Smiling, speaking in mild tones,

appearing cuddly and avuncular(someone once described him as look-ing like Santa in a turban), Rouhaniwas quickly labeled a moderate bythe media, a label that contrasted withthe hard-line tag the mainstreammedia requently affixes to Netan-yahus name.

Brotherhood has taken on another humiliating aspect:Egypts military leadership labeling the Brotherhood as aterrorist organization. Te ruling, made on December ,effectively outlaws the countrys most successul politicalmovement since the ouster o Hosni Mubarakthe veryorganization America threw its support behind afer hisall. Te Egyptian government that replaced MohamedMorsi has officially labeled the Muslim Brotherhood as agroup o terrorists. It doesnt look good or the Brother-hood or or its supporters in Washington. Te announce-ment was made afer a terrorist attack in the Nile Deltatown o Mansoura that claimed the lives o people andwounded over .

Following the decision to outlaw the Brotherhood, violentprotests erupted across the nation. Te Brotherhood still hasa lot o support even though the army is threatening Brother-hood supporters with punishment. Simply being a member isan offense punishable with five years in an Egyptian prison.

Te protests show that the Brotherhood is down butdefinitely not out. Te rumpethas warned o the MuslimBrotherhoods rise in Egyptian society and politics orover years. We know the radical Islamic movement inEgypt will certainly have a lot o influence in Egyptian

politics; and its going to swing that nation toward Iran.Ultimately, that means bad news or Egypt because o thefinal outcome.

As the fight or power continues, we can expect moreviolence such as that seen in Mansoura. We have seen whatchaos and lawlessness breeds in nations such as Libya, Iraqand Syria: extremism. Radical ideologies flourish in situa-tions such as that now acing Egypt. Te threat o extrem-ists coming to power again is an ever-present reality.

n Deadly diplomacy: handing ourpower to IranIran was desperate. Economic sanc-tions had brought the nation to itsknees. Te nuclear program wasputtering to a stop, and public unrestwas growing. Te regime spat out its

usual anti-Israel spiel, but the nationwas suffering: Oil exports had allen percent in two years and inflationwas at percent. America, how-ever, rather than bring this processto a successul conclusionwhichwould have simply required it to donothingundertooknuclear negotiations in

the meetings began on Oct. , ,Iran witnessed a phenomenal reversalo ortunes. From the get-go, the U.S.was more desperate or a deal thanIran was. Iran sensed Washingtonsurgency and capitalized on it. IranianForeign Minister Mohammad JavadZari negotiated a get all, give noth-

ing deal: Iran would have its sanc-tions relieved without having to worryabout closing down its reactors, get-ting rid o its uranium, stopping workon its plutonium acility or any otherreversals o its nuclear aspirations.Te pressure Iran was under has beenrelieved, and the Iranians are ree tosettle back into their nuclear activities. But the damage doesnt end there. Tedeal has given the Iranians power overAmerica. President Obama is pleadingwith Congress to hold off on passing

any new sanctions. He is araid thatehran will make good on its threat towalk out o all talks i more sanctionsare prepared. Tese sanctions haventeven been put in place yet, and Iran isalready dictating. Tis is a sign o justhow much power the Iranian regimehas gained. U arrest in October , Mikhail Khodor-

kovsky, the oligarch and oil executive, was the richestman in Russia. He might have still been the richest manin Russia today i he hadnt started thinking about politics, and objecting to the act that under President Vladimir Pu-tin, Russia had abandoned all prospects or democracy.

Whereas in , Khodorkovsky thought it was possibleto transorm Russia into a democracy by simply winningan election, afer years behind bars, he recognizes thatelections are not enough.

In other words, until the Russian people come to theconclusion that they want liberty, no one can give it tothem. Tey will just replace one dictator with another one.In his words, I you have a most important person in the

opposition you wil l get another Putin. Khodorkovskys remarks show that you cant instantly

import democracy rom abroad. Te U.S. deeated theSoviet Union in the Cold War. But the Soviet deeat didntmake the Russians liberal democrats. Until the seeds odemocracy are planted in a nations hearts and minds, theoverthrow o its overlord will make little difference to theaspirations o the people.

Over the past two months, in neighboring Ukraine, wehave seen the flipside o Khodorkovskys warning. Tere, hundreds o thousands o Ukrainians have been braving

the winter cold to protest President Viktor Yanukovychsdecision to ignore the publics desire to associate with theEuropean Union, rather than with Russia.

At this point, the opposition and Yanukovych are dead-

locked. According to National Reviews Askold Krush-elnyck, the protesters are trying to break the deadlock byturning to the U.S. and the EU or help.

What Ukraines protesters actions show is that they un-derstand that when you are dealing with an authoritarianregimeparticularly one supported by Putins authoritari-an regimeit is not enough or a nation to seek democracyand independence. Outside help is also necessary. So ar,however, aside rom throwing out a ew angry condemna-tions o Yanukovychs assaults on the protesters, neitherthe U.S. nor the EU has done anything to indicate that itcares whether or not the Ukrainians live reely or underthe Russian jackboot.

Many Americans, who rightly rue Obamas betrayal oAmericas allies, wish to see a reinstatement o George W.Bushs reedom agenda. For them, Khodorkovskys messagemust serve as a warning.

Bush called the battle in Iraq Operation Iraqi Freedom. He called the battle in Aghanistan Operation EnduringFreedom. But what the resurgence o al Qaeda in Iraq andthe aliban in Aghanistan make clear is that true promo-tion o reedom cannot be a simple slogan. A yearning orreedom cannot be imported to an indifferent or hostilesociety.

T year may go down not only as the least produc-tive ever in Washington but as one o the worst or therepublic.

In both the executive branch and Congress, Americanswitnessed an unwinding o the countrys ounding principles

and o their governments most basic responsibilities. Terule o law gave way to the rule o rulers. And the rule o real-ityin which politicians are entitled to their own opinionsbut not their own acts gave way to some politicians beliethat they were entitled to both their own opinions and theirown acts.

On health care, President Obama oversaw a disastrousand, sadly, dishonest launch o his signature achievement.Te president gave an exception to employers, but not toindividuals, without any legal basis, and made other adjust-ments according to his whim. Even more troubling washis message over the past three years that i you like yourplan, you can keep it, and that i you like your doctor, you

can keep your doctor. We now know that the administra-tion was aware that these claims were alse, yet Mr. Obamacontinued to make them, repeatedly.

In , millions o Americans will likely discover thatthe presidents claim that the average amily will save, on health insurance was equally disconnected romreality.

Reimpose it anyway.Internal Revenue Service agents using the power o thestate to harass political enemies? Deny and then stonewall.Unhappy with the pace o Senate confirmations or nomi-nees? Ignore the Constitution and appoint people anywayand claim that the Senate is not in session.

Te Obama administration hardly has a monopoly on

contributing to Washingtons dysunction. Congresss most significant action this year was Senate

Majority Leader Harry Reids decision to undo years oprecedent that requires a supermajority to change Senaterules. o speed the approval o executive appointments

and judicial nominations . In a republic, i majoritiescan change laws or rules however they please, youre on theroad to lie with no rules and no laws.

Te supermajority saeguard that prevented senatorsrom destroying the institution in which they serve is nowlargely gone. Gone also are members o the majority whounderstood the need to protect minority rights.

Instead, we have a majority leader who has appointedhimsel a Rules Committee o one. Reerring to the right othe minority to offer changes to bills under consideration,Mr. Reid said: Te amendment days are over. Like Presi-dent Obama, Mr. Reid is great at message discipline butweak on the rule o law and reality. Mr. Reid had already

used Senate rules to cut off debate and prevent the minorityrom offering amendments timesmore than all otherSenate majority leaders combined.

On the budget, Democrats and Republicans alike arecelebrating the avoidance o another nihilistic governmentshutdown as a great victory. Rahm Emanuel, Chicagos Demo-cratic mayor, has said the schoolclosuresalong with , job cuts inthe school systemwere necessary toclose the yawning hole in the district

Te Chicago teachers pension undis roughly percent unded, ar below

Mayors across the U.S. are acing[similar] predicaments . From De-

Part o the national problem liesin the swelling number o pensionersand the ruinous effect the crisishad on public finances. Chicago and Illinois, with theirworst-in-the-nation status, are outliers.Even Detroit, whose huge pension gap

was one reason it was orced to fileor bankruptcy this year, is in bettershape.

    Yet even those states and cities thatpaid their air share o costs are prob-ably understating the actual cost othe pension promises they have made.Current rules allow them to makeassumptions each year based not onwhat their portolios actually earnorlosebut on what they expect to earn.Tese expectations are ofen too rosy;

All communications with theimplant will be covert and encrypted.

What is perhaps just as disturbing is the ollowingrhetorical sequence rom Applebaum: Do you think Apple

Te delay rekindled sharp debate inthe military on the question o whetherwomen have the physical strength orsome military jobs, as service branchesmove toward opening thousands ocombat roles to them in .

    Although no new timetable has

been set on the delayed physicalrequirement, Marine Corps Comman-dant Gen. James Amos wants trainingofficials to continue to gather dataand ensure that emale Marines areprovided with the best opportunityto succeed, Capt. Maureen Krebs, aMarine spokeswoman, said Tursday.

Te first supposed promise o the Geneva deal that shouldbe noted is that o enriching uranium. For its energy pur-poses, Iran need only enrich to percent; or medical uses,it must be percent. When it comes to weapons-grade ura-nium, enrichment must be at least percent, which is rela-tively simple once percent enrichment has been achieved.

In the Geneva deal, Iran promised to cap its enrich-

ment at percent. Following the deal in Geneva, PresidentObama told the world that Iran has committed to haltingcertain levels o enrichment. But can we all breathe a col-lective sigh o relie? Not when we hear what Iran has to say.

Te structure o our nuclear program has been main-tained and the percent enrichment can be resumed inless than hours, Mohammad Javad Zari told Iranianstudents in ehran. So i Iran wants to disregard the Ge-neva deal, it will take less than a day to do so.

And the decision to enrich to higher levels may be closerthan many realize. Members o the Iranian parliamentare hard at work to counter the Geneva deal. Over a thirdo Irans parliament signed a bill introduced on January

that, i approved, wil l oblige the government to enrichuranium to percent level in order to provide uel orsubmarine engines i the sanctions are t ightened, accord-ing to Irans Press Vwebsite.

Te bill is aimed at giving an upper hand to ourgovernment and the negotiating team. It will allow thegovernment to continue our nuclear program i the Genevadeal ails, quoted Hossein aghavi Hosseini, spokes-man or parliaments National Security and Foreign Affairscommittee, as saying.

ehran isnt going to play by the rules. It is too savvy. Ithas no intention o stopping its nuclear program. It is using

the reprieve the Geneva talks provided to prepare itsel ora conrontation when the six months are over. It is plan-ning or when the Geneva talks ail.

Iran will halt work at its plutonium reactor. So saysPresident Obama, who is confident that Irans second pathto nuclear weaponsa plutonium core nuclear bombisnow shut down. Does Iran think the same thing?

Irans chie nuclear negotiator, Javad Zari said, Capac-ity at the Arak site is not going to increase. It means no newnuclear uel will be produced and no new installations willbe installed, but construction will continue there.

Just like the enrichment bill, this sounds like Iran is pre-paring or large-scale work in the uture. While the plant

may not produce uel now, why continue construction un-less Iran has bigger plans or the plant in the uture?

Te Iranians are exploiting loopholes in the Genevadeal. While work cant be done at the acility or six months(when the six months actually beginsnobody knows), Irancan still build the parts off-site and then simply installthem at the end o that period.

Iran cannot install or start up new centriuges, andits production o centriuges will be limited. Tat is whatPresident Obama told us all afer the deal was signed.

centriuges is being built. Maybe our leaders thought Irandidnt need to add to the , centriuges it a lready had.But according to Salehi, Iran has no intention o stoppingwith its production.

Te speed at which Iran is breaking its promises ismatched only by its speed at proceeding with its nuclearaspirations.

Te burden is on Iran to prove to the world that its nucle-

ar program will be exclusively or peaceul purposes, Obamawarned. But is the burden alling on Iran? rumpeteditor inchie Gerald Flurry explains: Churchill kept crying out as a

voice in the wilderness o political conusion. Tere was stilla possibility, Churchill believed, o preserving peace. N , he said, , . It was now essential or Britain to retrieve the woeulmiscalculations o which we are at present the , and owhich, unless we take warning in time, we may someday bethe (Martin Gilbert, Te Prophet o ruth).

We are not acing the acts. Our people are being dupedby leaders who want to hear smooth things in a world

filled with unparalleled dangers.Churchill warned o the rise o Nazi Germany that men

like Neville Chamberlain ailed to acknowledge. Mr. Flurryproclaimed a similar warning in as seen in the ex-cerpt above. How much worse is the situation today? Iran ison the cusp o obtaining nukes! Hitler never had what Iranis so close to achieving. rumpetcolumnist Brad Macdon-ald explains: Most obviously, Adol Hitler didnt have anadvanced nuclear weapons program. Hitler led a ruthlessregime bent on extinguishing tens o millions, but he hadto do it the long, hard waywith troops, tanks, and gaschambers. Irans mullahs have similar genocidal ambitions.

While they may not have the military physique o NaziGermany, they are on the cusp o owning something Hitlercould only dream about: A means o instantmass extermi-nation. Imagine Chamberlain letting Hitler acquire nuclearweapons. Tats what happened in Geneva.

Just like those dark days o World War , most worldleaders today are blind to the dangers. Tey believe that Iranwill keep its promises, just as Chamberlain believed Hitlerwould keep his. Yet repeatedly, Iran is showing that it has nointention o abiding by the promises it made at Geneva.

Te ulfillment o Daniel : is woven throughoutIrans actions. Iran is the prophesied king o the south, sup-ported by other radical Islamic nations. When Iran dashes

or the nuclear bomb, we should all pay close attention. Teprophesied rise o the king o the south is one o the earlysigns o the coming Great ribulation. Te war against theking o the north will be the initial conflict that will dragthe world into the horrors o World War . Tat is whyyou mustbe aware o what is happening in Iran today.
