Techno 3.0 It all began with a few dozen people demonstrating on the Ku’damm under the banner “Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen” (Peace, Joy and Pancakes). On 1 July 1989, the first Love Parade took place in Berlin. At the time, no one could have predicted that just a few years later, 1.5 million people would be raving through Berlin’s Tiergarten. Techno became the sound of a new era. The history of the Love Parade ended in 2010 in Duisburg, when 21 peo-ple died in a stampede. And now? Arts.21 meets the initiators of the movement, immerses itself in the Berlin techno scene and seeks out the clubs, DJanes and DJs of the future.

Discovering Augsburg For Bavaria’s third largest city after Munich and Nuremberg, 2019 is an exciting year. Boasting a water management system that has evolved throughout history, Augsburg is applying for UNESCO world heritage status. The complex system that even the Romans had a hand in, is still visible to this day – from the many underground channels through to industrial monuments from the past. Besides all that, the city is home to many major sights – including the Town Hall, one of Germany’s top Renaissance buildings. Augsburg is also famous as the birthplace of Jakob Fugger, an important merchant and banker from the late mediaeval period. Check-in presenter Lukas Stege explores the city at the convergence of the Lech, Wertach and Singold rivers – on the water and by foot.

The Search for Happiness Happiness is something we all strive for. But how do we find it? What are the require-ments? Plenty of money, a great job, lots of friends, a successful relationship? Polls have shown that for many people, a relationship is indeed one of the most desirable goals in the quest for contentment. But anyone who thinks that money or material goods are the route to long-term happiness, is mistaken. Even the euphoria triggered by an unexpect-ed lottery win is for the most part short-lived. The uncomfortable aspect of happiness is that it’s addictive. The brains of happy people are replete with the hormone dopamine. It creates a sense of euphoria that soon dissipates. Scientists say this is important, as our brains couldn’t withstand constant contentment. On the other hand, some people always seem to be happy. Why is this? Is happiness also determined by genetic factors? In Good Shape answers these and other questions.
