TUXEDO TALK:You found your dress, now its time to dress your husbandto be! To ensure your fiance and his groomsmen arelooking their best on your wedding day, educate yourselfwith these tips and tuxedo terminology.

1. Determine your wedding style. The first thing to consider when picking out attire for the men in yourwedding is the style and theme of your wedding. Will your day be formal, informal, colorful, classic, trendy or modern? The style of your weddingwill play an important role in the type and fit of the formalwear you choose. If your style is simple and casual or if you are having a beach wedding, choose a suit for a more relaxed and informal look. A bit more traditional?Choose a full tuxedo complete with a vest or cummerbund and tie.

2. Coordinate your wedding colorsAfter deciding the style of your wedding, determine the colors the men willwear. This not only includes the color of the vest, tie and pocket squarebut also the color of the tuxedo itself. The most popular tuxedo color isbasic black, but there are numerous colors to choose from includingchocolate brown, khaki, light or dark grey, navy, white and ivory.

3. Tuxedo fitsWhile most tuxedos fit most body types properly (when measuredcorrectly), we carry three types of tuxes sure to flatter your guys’ statureand give him that tailored look. We carry three fits; traditional, modernand slim.

4. Get measurements done professionallyWe strongly encourage the men in your wedding party to get measured bya seamstress, tailor or other professional at a tuxedo shop. This will ensurehis tuxedo to fit properly.

5. Tuxedo FormalityWhether you are looking for a formal tuxedo or something less casual, wecarry them all. Did you know the more buttons on a tuxedo, the moreformal the style?!

TUXEDO ANATOMY

THE JACKET:The jacket is the most important part of the tuxedo. Thebuild of the groom and wedding party should be stronglyconsidered when selecting the jacket.

THE LAPEL:The collar of the jacket is otherwise known as the lapel.Lapels can be seen in four main shapes-Peak, notch, ShawlCollar, and Mandarin. The peak lapel is your standard andmost popular lapel. The notch lapel usually has a deep vwhich can be flattering to all body types. Variation in lapelscan be created with subtle details such as tone on tonesatin bands, chalk striping and tone on tone texture.

SHIRTS:Shirts provide another opportunity to add character to your

wedding attire. When choosing your shirt, pay close attentionto the collar (different ties require different types of collars).Wing tip collars look best with a classic bow tie and lay downcollars best accommodate a windsor tie. Pleating is alsoadded to some styles of button down shirts and adds atraditional feel to the ensemble. Trying to decide betweenwhite or ivory? Match the bride’s wedding dress!

PLEATED vs. FLAT-FRONT PANTS:The difference between pleated and flat-front trousers canbe seen in the front of the pant. Pleated trousers have apleat running down the center of each pant leg from top tobottom. Flat-front trousers do not have a pleat or crease, are flat similar to a pair of jeans. Either of these trousersare likely to have a satin stripe down the side of both legs.If your men are athletic and fit; choose a flat-front pant.Need more room in their trousers; choose pleated.

VEST OR CUMMERBUND:In the past a cummerbund was a staple for all tuxedos.Recently however, vests have become all the rage. Rangingin color and pattern, vests are an easy and flattering way toaccent your tux. Keep the guys looking classy even after thejacket comes off by adding a vest to their wedding day attire.Keeping it casual? Skip the cummerbund and vest entirely.

TIES:Ties come in many different styles, patterns and colors. Bowties are typically more classic and formal; the Windsor tiegives a more modern yet casual look. Going with a Westerntheme? Try a string, crossover, or bolo tie.

POCKET SQUARE:Add a splash of color to your tuxedo jacket with a pocketsquare. Pocket squares can be folded in many different wayssuch as the winged puff, three fold stairs and the four pointcrown; check out the next few pages for some ideas.

CUFF LINKS:Cufflinks and studs give your guy that polished look. Rangingfrom simple black or silver, show-stopping diamond, orengraved with a monogram, cufflinks are another way to adda personal touch to your wedding attire.

TUXEDO TIPS:

Get creative with the coordination of yourwedding party’s vest, tie and pocketsquare. Add variation and interest bymixing and matching patterns and colorsthat compliment your wedding palette.Do you have two-toned bridesmaiddresses? Mix your vest and tie -or- tieand pocket square with the two colors forthe perfect compliment. Add texture totheir ensemble by mixing the patterns.

MIX & MATCHColors and Patterns!

WHITE tuxedos…Tuxedos and suits come in many colors. We recommend reserving white/ivorytuxedos for your groom. Many times, only the groom will wear a white tux andthe rest of the wedding party will wear adifferent or darker color.

Don’t know the difference between a tuxedo anda suit? Don’t worry, we are here to help! Tuxedosare more formal; suits less dressy. Tuxedos havesome detail on the lapel such as a satin, grosgrainor textured fabric; suits have no detail. Tuxedosare usually paired with a vest; suits are normallynot. No matter if you choose a suit or a tuxedo, your guys are sure to look their best on your bigday!

What’s the difference?TUXEDO vs. SUIT

Since the groom and his groomsmen typicallymatch the color of the bridesmaid’s dresses, differentiate the ushers by putting them in anaccent or neutral color such as silver or bronze. The fathers of the wedding should also have aneutral color, like black, to easily accent the attireof the mothers.

What color should theushers and fathers wear?
