Interpreting the Originality report: 10. A highlighted passage marked by a number indicates Turnitin’s originality checker has matched the passage with a source. Click the number for more details about the match.

v 11. Note the two highlighted passages. Turnitin.com has identified these passages as coming from a source other than the author’s writing. 12. The first passage is not enclosed in quotation marks and has no citation. The author has used source material and not cited it. Based on one or more passages like this in a paper, the professor will likely take action according to the policies in the course syllabus.

13. The second, red passage is enclosed in quotation marks. Also, a citation occurs right after the quoted material, and a bibliographic entry occurs for the source at the end of the paper. Even though Turnitin has highlighted this passage, the student is in good shape because the material is quoted and cited. Be sure to cite all paraphrased and quoted material from all sources. 14. Turnitin may also occasionally flag commonly used phrases like clichés or the titles of books. If turnitin.com highlights a few, isolated words, there is no reason for concern. 15. When you are done, you may close the Turnitin window and return to Canvas. For more information on feedback and Turnitin, consult Turnitin.com.
