TUSEV Published Statement on Foreign Funds in Turkey Following the recent developments regarding civil society organizations receiving foreign funds in Turkey, TUSEV published a statement on the issue. In the statement, the role of civil society, sources and availability of funds, and cross border philanthropy are emphasized and concerns about the developments regarding CSOs receiving foreign funds are expressed. Turkey’s First Online Destekle Değiştir was Held on May 27 TUSEV has been organizing Destekle Değiştir (Giving Circle) events, adapted with technical assistance and expertise from The Funding Network, since 2014. The sixth Destekle Değiştir, which is also the first online Giving Circle event in Turkey, was held on May 27. Three civil society organizations presented their projects that focus on providing cinema seminars to university students, providing psychological and legal assistance to youth under state protection, and funding workshops that will teach planting and taking care of plants in houses. 122 people attended the event, and 93 donors pledged a total of 114.350 Turkish Liras (11.375 Euros approx.) to the three projects. TUSEV Contributed to ICNL Civic Freedom Monitor The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law’s (ICNL) Civic Freedom Monitor provides up-to-date information on legal issues affecting civil society in 55 countries and 8 multilateral organizations. As part of this initiative, TUSEV provides an overview of key legal issues relating to civic freedom, with a focus on legal barriers to civil society activity in Turkey. TUSEV’s General Assembly was Held on June 18, 2021 TUSEV’s General Assembly was held on June 18, 2021 with the participation of member foundations and associations. In the Assembly which was organized within the social distancing and hygiene rules, member organizations were informed about TUSEV’s activities and financials in 2020 and 2021, a new board and auditing committee were elected and TUSEV welcomed 4 new member organizations; Aegean Forest Foundation , Association for Support and Training of Women Candidates , Faydasıçok Foundation , Suna ve İnan Kıraç Foundation . TUSEV will Attend the Civil Society Sharing Screen Panel Series TUSEV’s Secretary General Rana Kotan will join as a panelist to the Civil Society Sharing Screen Series organized by Hrant Dink Foundation to address the current approaches, needs, issues, and discussions in the field of civil society. The sixth of the series, Sustainable Civil Society: Resource Distribution, Philanthropy, and Donor Behaviour will take place on 18th of August and Turkish, English and Eastern Armenian simultaneous translation will be available. The Eighth Term of Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy Program Ended TUSEV has been conducting Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy Program under the Philanthropy Infrastructure Development in Turkey Project with the aim of enhancing dialogue among philanthropy professionals. 23 civil society professionals participated in the eighth term of the program, which took place between January and July 2021. The program covered various topics related to philanthropy, such as individual giving, donor relations and management, and legal and fiscal legislation concerning CSOs, policy governance model, civil society’s recognition and credibility, digital fundraising campaigning, community philanthropy, civil society and private sector relations and current state and the future of philanthropy. Throughout the modules, the participants had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with each other and learn from experts. EFC Annual Conference will be Held in Vienna The EFC Annual Conference will be held in Vienna on 18-20 October with the theme From Crises to Opportunity: How can Philanthropy Accelerate Sustainable Change?. The event will take shape via four interwoven strands (Climate, Democracy, Philanthropy and Society), each moderated by an expert, and will consider the four underlying themes of culture, digital agenda, education and civic engagement. CAF World Giving Index 2021 Report is Published Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) published the World Giving Index 2021 which provides combined insight into the scope and nature of giving around the world and looks at three aspects of giving behavior on helping a stranger, donating money, volunteering time. According to the report, Indonesia is the most generous country in the World, followed by Kenya and Nigeria. Applications to Feminist Review Trust is Open Applications for Feminist Review Trust, which gives grants to projects in the UK and internationally that support women, is open. Trust will particularly welcome applications from non-OECD countries that focus on campaigning and activism in areas such as lesbian and transgender rights, violence against women and girls, disabled women and girls, refugee women and girls, women, girls and environmental activism related to place and locality. Scientists Dr. Özlem Türeci and Prof. Uğur Şahin honoured with Aydın Doğan Award The Aydın Doğan Foundation announced Özlem Türeci and Uğur Sahin as the recipients of the 25th Aydın Doğan Award, one of the most prestigious awards in Turkey presented annually since 1996 to a successful individual or institution to recognize and honour their contribution to developments in culture, art, literature, and science. Özlem Türeci and Ugur Sahin, who were awarded the award in the field of Health for their groundbreaking work in biotechnology leading to the development of the COVID-19 vaccine and for their extraordinary and unmatched contribution to human health, will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in Germany in the autumn according to the situation of the pandemic process. Cerebral Palsy Turkey – The Spastic Children’s Foundation of Turkey Starts the Steptember Project Cerebral Palsy Turkey-Spastic Children’s Foundation of Turkey continues to work for the Steptember project that aims to raise awareness regarding Cerebral Palsy, and to facilitate free access to special education and rehabilitation services among children with Cerebral Palsy through donations. Artists and Performers Welcome Little Amal The Walk Project, which Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) is among the partners, is a 4 month long 8,000 km journey by a 3.5m puppet of a 9-year-old Syrian refugee girl called Little Amal from the Syrian-Turkey border to the UK in search of her mother. Little Amal will be welcomed by major new arts commissions, city-wide community performances and intimate events, which has been designed by The Walk, in collaboration with each local partner. Projects to Receive Grant Support from the Sabancı Foundation in the New Season Announced The Sabancı Foundation works with the mission of supporting equal opportunities and active participation in society for women, youth and individuals with disabilities and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are eligible to receive support within the scope of the Foundation’s Grant Programs carried out for 15 years have been announced. The grant supports provided by the Sabancı Foundation, as the only foundation giving uninterrupted grant support for 15 years will total TRY 32 million this year. The projects to be funded have been selected by the evaluation by the Board of Trustees of the Sabancı Foundation, upon the proposal of an independent Evaluation Board comprising a group of experts in the field who are experienced in the field of civil society. The Sabancı Foundation will provide grants to 7 projects this year in order to contribute to social development and strengthen the understanding of civil society. Click here to learn more.
