Classical Mystery Tour—October 13!Page 3

One of our favorite traditions is our annual free concert at Tuscora Park. Each Labor

Day weekend, we gather there to mark the end of summer. Under the stars. Under the pines. Under the spell of great music.

With the audience seated around the hillside, we are surrounded by friends and family as we offer peeks inside the new concert season.

This time, on September 2, we’ll play a bit of Debussy, a bit of the Beatles, and a bit of train-inspired music, with each piece nodding to a concert on the 2018-19 program.

And as a special treat, we’ll share our parkside pleasure with special guests, Hey Mavis.

Hey Mavis is a folk band from Northeast Ohio, four individually renowned musicians, who together form a remarkable ensemble.

They have appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage and Whad’ya Know?, and PBS’s Songs

from the Center. Their website, www.heymavis.com, includes a long list of appearances—notably, Melissa Etheridge saw Hey Mavis perform at a benefit concert and recruited them to perform on her 2018 music cruise.

Spend some time on their website, where you can get to know them and listen to their music. You’ll find yourself tapping your foot and humming along and wishing you could play the fiddle with such expertise.

Then pack up your comfy folding chairs or a blanket, and join us at the park—show time is 7 p.m.

JOHN MAXWELL plays tenor saxophone in the Dominic Greco Band and the Jericho Big Band, and he checked a box on his

bucket list when he had the opportunity to perform “Rhapsody in Blue” with the

Philharmonic in 2017. John and his wife, Vicki, have three children (Mary and Michael

are current Buckeyes, and David is a current Tornado), all of whom have been fortunate to perform

with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Honors Band and to attend the Philharmonic performing arts camp. “Tuscarawas County is blessed to have performing arts ensembles of the caliber of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra and Choruses, and I look forward to being involved and contributing any way that I can,” said John.

John is a 1994 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Law, and practices law in New Philadelphia with the firm of Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty. He is a member of the Dover City Schools Board of Education, the Tuscarawas County Community Foundation Board of Directors, and is a volunteer with Boy Scouts Troop 95 in Dover.
