Principal’s Message
Dear Parents and Carers
We have a very busy week ahead with the P&C AGM tonight and our ‘Meet the Teacher’ tomorrow evening. Classrooms will be clearly labelled but please feel free to ask if you are unsure where you are heading. Please remember 2/3R has already had their evening so will not be representing on Wednesday.
The Specialist Teachers will be presenting in the Library at 6:30pm. All other groups will be in their classrooms. Kindy at 5.30pm, Years 1 & 2 at 6.00pm, Years 3 & 4 at 7pm and Years 5 & 6 at 7.30pm. Please consider the job of Class Liaison Parent this will make communication easier for your class group and enable the P&C rosters to be collated through each classroom.
I have had a message regarding parents crossing the Comenarra Parkway at Maxwell Street and not walking to the lights to cross he road. We are concerned about the safety of all and ask that you do not cross this busy road at that point. Please walk to the traffic lights and cross with the pedestrian signal. I do not wish to have any accidents relating to our families on this very dangerous road.
I also ask parents using ‘Kiss and Drop’ to follow the directions and not leave your car to drop off and collect children. There is a teacher on duty in the afternoons to get your children to you safely and the flow of traffic is dependent on you not leaving your car. This is a no parking zone and is designed to enable quick access to the school. I do understand it’s very busy in this area but it works really well when everyone complies.
Swimming ribbons were presented at our Assembly on Monday. It was lovely to see so many of our students so excited to get their ribbons.
Two of our students had a lovely excursion to the ABC studios last week to visit Dr Karl on the radio. I have included a message from Makan’s dad and some photos from their experience. What a lovely experience for the boys.
Message from Makan’s dad re the boys visiting Dr Karl at the ABC
‘It was a wonderful trip with Dr Karl yesterday, triple j even put Makan and Dominic's voices on radio to introduce themselves including names, which school they are from and why they were visiting the ABC Ultimo office. They had a lot of fun, they are inspired by Dr Karl, they would like to accelerate their science!’
Our Year 6 students commenced their Operation Art experience for 2020 on Monday. This involved ten of our students having a day of art, next week it will be Year 5 students. Once the program is complete four artworks will be selected to be sent to Westmead Hospital for exhibition. Art works that do not get selected are displayed in our school and returned to students at the end of the year. Mrs Plasto who runs our Monday after school class runs the program for us.
Welcome to Miss Ok who is taking 5R to replace Miss Richie. She has commenced on the class and is working well. Miss Ok will be taking “Meet the Teacher” on Wednesday night and will not be totally familiar with all programs as yet but it will be an opportunity to hear about programs and what Year 5 are expected to cover this year and to meet her of course.

Volunteer Programs for Literacy
Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Mrs Jenny Harrisson and I’m the Learning and Support Teacher at the school. Part of my role is to oversee the
programs run by parents and volunteers to support those students who need short term extra support in reading. All
programs are run on a 1-1 basis.
I will oversee the ‘MultiLit Program’ for students in Years 3-6 and Mrs Shelley Warren will oversee the ‘Parent Run Reading
Program’ for students in Years 1 & 2. Both programs were a great success last year.
I would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in joining these programs as a volunteer this year, as well as
the wonderful volunteers who helped to make such a difference for the students last year. All I need is a commitment
from you to be available at least once a week, preferably in the morning, on a regular basis. No prior experience is
required. Mrs Warren and I will train and support all volunteers and provide the necessary materials.
If you’d like to volunteer, including volunteers from last year, could you please complete the section at the end and return
it to me ASAP.
Thank you,
Jenny Harrisson
