The Charlie’s Lunch StorySam and Janey Stewart’s son Charlie was born with a serious heart defect. Charlie was one of the most spiritually alive kids you could ever meet, and he loved to share. On February 1, 1996, Charlie’s heart just couldn’t hold out any longer, and he went home to be with the Lord. The Stewarts were missionaries serving in Guatemala, and one day at lunchtime there was a knock at their door. When Janey opened the door, she found two little boys begging for food. Janey felt the Lord telling her to “Give them Charlie’s lunch.” She did, and that act grew into the ministry named Charlie’s Lunch, which today feeds thousands of hungry children all over the world.
