LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Turner Center Members,

I hope that you have been enjoying the first glimpses of fall! In case you haven't noticed, we have planned a record 12 day trips for October so that we can all get out and enjoy this beautiful time of year and see some of the great things that Nashville has to offer!

Beginning this month, we are going to make a few changes to the monthly newsletter and calendar of events. We have heard from quite a few members that there are ways that we could make the newsletter more user-friendly and easier to keep track of the different programs that folks have signed up for. As a result, we are going to create a separate Activity Payment Form which will be on the back of the monthly calendar. You will be able to use this form to track what programs and activities for the month that you have signed up for and whether you have paid for them. Hopefully, this will eliminate the confusion for our members and make sure that you recorded all of the fun activities that you are doing at the Turner Center!

Believe it or not, it is already time to start planning for another Marketfest event here at the Bellevue Family YMCA/FiftyForward J. L. Turner Center! The event will take place on Monday, November 11th and Tuesday, November 12th with vendors selling their items throughout our facility. In conjunction with the Marketfest, we will be having a silent auction with great gift cards, baskets and tickets up for bid. We are once again asking our members to contribute to this fundraiser by donating items to be used for the gifts baskets.

Here are the items that we could use: bottles of wine gourmet snacks baskets stemware chocolate bags/ribbon candles soaps dog toys/treats movie tickets gift cards cat toys/treats

Please submit all items by Friday, November 1st so we can process them before the auction. Thank you in advance for your consideration of our request.

Fondly, Megan

Candace Waligora, FiftyForward's newest staff member, brings an artistic eye to the Turner Center. A social worker by education, she is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and has been in the Nashville area for a little over 2 years. She has experience in several mediums, including drawing, painting and printmaking.

Candace will begin a 6-week drawing class on October 3rd. This class is for anyone, even if you think you can’t draw, to learn how to put pencil to paper and create your own masterpiece. The class is only $40 including supplies!

Every month, she will be holding a “Crafting with Candace” workshop. In October, the workshop will be creating fabric pumpkins. This class is $8 including supplies!

Beginning in January, Candace will be teaching a 6-week acrylic painting class. In this class Candace will show you how to mix colors and use mediums to create different effects in your artwork. You may bring pictures as references or paint a still life set up that Candace will provide. Acrylic paint is a medium that dries quickly and cleans up easily with soap and water, as opposed to oil paints. Acrylic paint colors can also be blended to create colors unique to your project.
