Turner Contemporary is the South East’s newest and most spectacular venue for civil ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and receptions. Our striking art gallery, designed by award-winning architect David Chipperfield, offers a truly unique setting to celebrate your most treasured day with family and friends.

Located in the historic seaside town of Margate, the gallery overlooks the North Kent coast, and the same beautiful skies that Britain’s best-loved painter JMW Turner described as ‘…the loveliest in all Europe’. Combine this with the exceptional, bespoke service that we offer, and Turner Contemporary can make your special day nothing less than perfect.

Civil ceremonies

Turner Contemporary is fully licensed to hold civil ceremonies. With stunning views out to sea, a calm, welcoming atmosphere and spaces that can accommodate up to 120 guests, the gallery is an elegant, contemporary setting for a romantic, relaxed occasion. Ceremonies can be booked Monday to Sunday.

Wedding receptions

With state-of-the-art facilities, flexible spaces and a dedicated wedding planning team, we can make your reception a stylish, hassle-free event. Our Foyle Rooms and Clore Studio offer the perfect backdrop, capturing the same unique light that inspired many of Turner’s paintings.

Cuisine

Our caterers, Leafi started as an events company in 2006 with a focus on excellence, creativity, personal approach and fabulous food. Their company ethos is based on a genuine care for clients, staff, suppliers and the quality of its products and services. Their food philosophy embraces the season and supports good animal husbandry practices and favours sustainable and local produce. They work with suppliers that share the same values and who ensure that we receive produce of the very highest quality.

Foyle Room

Located on the ground floor adjacent to our Sunley Gallery, the Foyle Room is a flexible space that can host ceremonies with up to 120 people seated theatre style, and wedding breakfasts and receptions of up to 150 people with a mixture of seating and standing. As a dedicated event space, the Foyle Room has superb acoustics for music and a private outdoor terrace.

Clore Studio

Our second floor venue space overlooks Margate Harbour, the sweeping coastline of Margate sands, and looks out to the iconic Reculver Towers, making for an especially romantic backdrop. Here we can host up to 120 people seated theatre style and a combination of seating and standing for up to 150.

We will work closely with you to create your own personal menus that reflect your tastes and cater to your guests’ requirements.

Turner Contemporary is passionate about supporting local businesses. At least 80% of our ingredients are sourced from independent Kent suppliers. We only use fresh ingredients, produce chutney and create delicious patisserie. We’ve even catered for Her Majesty the Queen.

We operate bars with a wide choice of spirits, beers, and wines.

Payment

Upon confirmation of your booking, 40% of the estimated hire value is required to be paid to Turner Contemporary. This payment is non-refundable.

A £500 deposit is required for catering. This payment is non-refundable.

The remainder of the balance should then be paid six weeks before the date of your event.
