of buses. This would reduce traffic volumes and parking demand, while increasing safety for those already travelling to the park by bus.

Conversion of existing parking into a bus layover or drop off area would reduce the parking supply provided within the park.

6.1.9 Expansion of On Road Bicycle Routes

There is an existing on road bicycle route along The Boulevarde, Rowlison Parade, Currawang Street and Pine Street East (refer to Section 2.4.1). This on road bicycle path does not fully extend to Tunks Park, which may deter cyclists from travelling to the park.

Vernon Street and Brothers Avenue could be included within the bicycle network by installation of an on road marked cycle path. This would alert drivers to expect bicycle riders and increase cyclists’ safety during travel to and from the park.

There is a risk that the significant grades would still discourage cyclists from adopting this mode of travel to the park. The nature of the existing roads is already bicycle friendly, with low travel speeds and narrow carriageways.

The provision of a separated uphill bicycle lane is not considered appropriate as there would be insufficient vehicle volumes to warrant the significant costs and impact to on street parking. Further, the current narrow street conditions result in a safer condition for cyclists as vehicles are required to travel at lower speeds.

6.2 Resolving Existing Issues While the focus and objective of this Travel Plan is to propose strategies to encourage sustainable travel modes, there are existing problems within the travel network that could be improved through adjustments to the existing situation.

6.2.1 Introduce Part Time Parking Restrictions

To assist in providing for the parking demand, parking restrictions could be applied at locations near to the park. These parking restrictions would be implemented largely to prevent vehicles from being parked overnight or stored in unrestricted parking areas. To fully implement these restrictions, parking management would be required by Council including monitoring of vehicles to ensure no parking infringements are occurring.
