William Starr Carter, son of Congressman and Mrs. Tim Lee Carter, died at 6 a.m. Saturday' morning at Vadnerbilt Hospital in Nashville of acute undifferentiated leukemia.

The disease was diagnosed at Vanderbilt on May 10, 1973. Starr was treated at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institution in Houston and was in remission from 1973 until September 10. 1978, and from shortly thereafter until his death. He was taken from his Home in Tompkinsville. Ky. and hospitalized at Vanderbilt, Friday, February 18th.

Area Deaths and Funerals strongest supporters in Congress of cancer research and treatment

, Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 21, at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in* Tompkins-ville. Buriaf was in the Carter Family plot in the Evans' Oak Hill Cemetery there.

A student at Western Kentucky University. Starr was born August 12. 1954 at Glasgow, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Culver Military Aca'dmey at Culver, Indiana, where he was a member of the Black Horse Troop.

In addition .to his studies at Western, Starr farmed in Monroe County and was a director of People's Bank o Tompkinsville. He was the youngest bank director in the state of Kentucky.

Heights, Kentucky passed away Sunday, February 20, 1977 in Cincinnati. Ohio. He was born in Rockcastle < County March 26,1922, the son of the late Oscar and Nellie Price Evans. He was a niember-of the Ashland Masonic Lodge #640 of Mt. Vernon. .

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Irmalee Kleem Evans of Highland Heights, Kentucky; one son, Christopher Evans of Cold Springs, Kentucky and one daughter, Linda Evans, at home; one grandson and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Brodheacj, passed away after a ?horl illness Tuesday evening. February 15, 1977 at the Lake Cumberland Medical Center in Somerset, Ky. She was born in Rockcastle Co. on July 12, 1892, the daughter of the late Robert Emery and Julie Brown Hamm. She was a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Hasty was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Hasty and one son, Glen Hasty.

She is survived by two sons: Lewis Hasty of Lockland, Ohio and Clyde Hasty of Brooks, Ky.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hasty of Louisville, Ky. Also surviving are" 6 grandchildren and 12 great 'grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday. February 18, 1977 at the Poplar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Bingham officiating. Burial was in the Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Lula j. Cromer Mrs. Lula Jane Cromer, age 92, of Mt! Vernon, passed away after ft brief illness. Wednesday' evening, February 16,. at the Pauie A. Clay -Hospital in Richmond, Ky. She was born in Rockcastle co. on March 24, 1884 the daughter of the late William and Eva Dixon Southard and was a member of the Ml. Vernon Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by one son. Mr. Bert Cromer of Mt. Vernon; .'our daughters.

Mrs. Elsie Shivel," Mrs. Eva Bobbins, Mrs. Ella Rash and Mrs. Vina Harmon all of Ml.. Vernon; -one-half sister, Mrs. Katie Renner of Mi. Vernon. Forty-lwo grandchildren, several great grandchild-ren and several great great grandchild-ren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Marl Cromer and two sons, Joe and Elmer Cromer.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, .February 19 at the. Ml. Vernon Pentecostal Church by Bro. Charles Shivel. Interment was in the Elm wood Cemetery.

He is survived by one daughter. Miss Christcnc Mink of Chicago, Illinois and one son Mr. Fortner Mink, Jr. of Mt. Vernon and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Owens of Winchester. Ten grandchil-dren and four greal grandchildren also survive.'

. Mr. Middleton was born in Rockcastle County October 15,1924, the son of Dizney Middleton and the lale Dessie Settles Middleton and was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War n.

Besides his father, Dizney Middle-Ion of Georgetown, he is survived by one son, William R. Middleton, Jr. of Route 1, Brodhead; one step-son, Cledith Thacker of Conway; four daughters, Mrs. Brenda Darlene Smith of Renfro •Ygjlty. Mrs. Joyce Anq Monlgomety. and Mrs.'Dessie Lynn Bullock, both of Ml. Vernon and Miss Lucy Elizabeth Middleton of Ml.
