Award. The students are becoming settled very quickly and are quickly getting used to the routines of big school. We have been practising doing groups and look forward to all of the parents/grandparents that have offered to help out with groups. Literacy groups begin this week and are really busy times in kindergarten. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who had brought in tissues, wipes and glue sticks. Could you please label your child’s glue stick as they will keep it under their desk. In reading we have been focusing on one-to-one correspondence. The best way to practice this concept is to point your index finger under each word, in a left-to-right progression, as you read to your child. Your child will start to model this reading behaviour, and begin to make that "see and say" connection. When your child is reading their home reader, have them use their index finger to point under the words as they are reading.  This simple technique will enable your child to become a more fluent reader!Home reading seems to be going well and I am so impressed with how everyone’s crisp finger pointing is going. Don’t forget to jot the book read in the home reading diary. You may wonder why there is a highlighted line in the home reading diary. This is just my record for keeping count of how many nights your child has read (just in case a diary gets lost). This week we have been learning the words ‘a’ and ‘am’. This week we will be learning ‘my’ and ‘is’, so if you’d like to practice these words at home, that would be great. We have also been learning to read by ourselves by sitting down and reading the pictures. If you have any of the following items at home which are no longer needed, could you please send them in?

Cardboard tubes (paper towel or wrapping paper tubes) Paper bags: lunch size & grocery size Cardboard boxes: tissue etc Styrofoam trays Newspaper & Magazines Large & small boxes and lids (shoe

boxes) Yarn, ribbon or string scraps Plastic containers (margarine, yoghurt

etc.) Baby food jars Paper cups (foam or paper) Milk bottle lids Wrapping paper & wallpaper scraps Corks Old pasta-assorted Felt or fabric remnant pieces

If you have any queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to see me. Have a great week. Michelle Shaw

last week, but still kept working hard. Congratulations to them all. Rest assured any crying does stop when we go into the classroom and begin our routines. Thank you to everyone who came to the information session last week. We hope you feel more informed about things at Tuggerawong. If you have any more questions don’t forget to ask. Thank you also to those who have remembered tissues or wipes. They will come in very handy in the classroom. We are going to start groups this week, so if you have volunteered to help please come along at the time you nominated. All are most welcome. Volunteers need to sign in at the office and then come to the classroom.Homework and Home Reading have begun and the children were very excited to hand in their work. Home Reading Logs go home Monday, readers changed every day, but reading logs only need to come back on Friday. These will be given back to the children on Monday. Books they read over the weekend can then be updated in the diary. Reading every night earns them awards. Remember one entry per day.In reading we are working on pointing to every word as we say it and return sweep to the beginning for the next line of text. Children need to bring their blue plastic folder or similar every day please. Children really enjoyed Dancing with Buddies on Tuesday. They are making lots of new friends amongst their classmates to play happily in the playground with their peers.Children should have brought home their Licence Cards letting you know how they have been behaving. All have made a great start, so you can congratulate them, sign their card and return it, if you haven’t already done so. The usual routine is that they will go home Friday for parents to sign and are returned Monday. Thank you also to the parents waiting at the COLA and silver seats. We will continue to try to bring the children to the silver seat area at bell time. Children can become anxious when they start to hear the noise from the parents gathering outside the rooms, so by waiting further away the children can relax to pack up ready for home, and we can avoid some of the congestion and chaos outside the rooms and office. This keeps the children safe. Have a great weekMrs Hurley- Class teacher

1/2BHi everyoneI hope that everyone has settled well into the school year and all of our students are happy in their new class. We have started getting used to our routines and the students are becoming more confident in following the tasks that have been given to them.Thank you to all of the parents who attended the afternoon information session last week. If you would like a copy of what was discussed, please ask your child to collect one and I will send it home with them. This week in 1/2B we will have parent volunteers starting. Please remember to sign in and out of the office when you help out. If you are interested in helping out during groups or assisting with sight word changing/reading with students please see me. Your help is greatly appreciated! In our class, the students are working towards earning Dojo points to put on their ‘Brag Tags’. When students earn points, they receive tags to show everyone the good work that they have been doing. Check them out next time you pick up your

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING- PBLExciting News! Tuggerawong Public School are in the process of reviewing current school wellbeing practices and we will be implementing Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) into our school this year. In order to continually improve the manner in which our school operates, we have revised and are beginning to implement changes to our school wide expectations and consequences which are used in the classroom, in the playground and when representing the school.

What is PBL?Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole school program that actively promotes positive behaviour. It enables students to develop a clear understanding of required expectations, become responsible for their own behaviour and work together to create a positive, productive and harmonious learning community. Our school-wide expectations for students are Respectful, Responsible and Personal Best.PBL is a data driven program. Therefore, what we learn from the data, such as, specific inappropriate behaviours which we need to address, effects what we do throughout the school in PBL. A PBL committee meets on a fortnightly basis to organise the implementation of PBL and review data. Each week, the school will have an area of focus that involves explicit teaching and support of positive behaviours. Teachers and students will participate in lessons that involve discussion, role-play and reflection. Background InformationPBL has been adapted from the Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program developed in the USA. The Regional Director of WSR and the Regional Leadership Team, though impressed by the PBIS model, recognised that its focus on behaviour support needed to include overt emphasis on learning in order to appeal to WSR schools. This regard for learning builds on the NSW Department of Education's Quality Teaching framework (2003).How does PBL operate in schools?PBL operates as a systemic umbrella for a broad range of programs in schools, including values education, anti-bullying, learning support teams, and Priority Schools and Priority Action Schools programs. The elements of this model can be applied across all years of schooling, K–12, and all curriculum areas. The process employs coaches that provide a localised connection between the schools and the Region. The coaches help participant schools transfer learning experiences in training sessions into practice in the schools. Coaching is essential in the PBL process to increase transfer of learning in the areas of needs assessment, evaluation, systems development and action planning.PBL TEAM Our PBL Staff team leading this initiative are: Mrs Kate Day (Assistant Principal), Mrs Belinda Stephens, Miss Kell’ee Anderson and Mrs Katie Sturgess. As part of this initiative the school works at ensuring that consistency in the wellbeing of children exists. We are very excited about the upcoming changes and will keep you informed as our journey with PBL begins!
