The first Greek student at Tufts, Vasilios Papavasiliou, received an MD in 1915.
From 1915 to the 1930s Greek students at Tufts came primarily for professional study in medicine and dentistry or undergraduate degrees in engineering.
HISTORY
The university did not graduate more than about
a dozen Greek students per year until 1975,
after which the numbers were greater.
All Greek students were male until 1965,
after which there were increasing numbers of women,
though never fully half.
Starting in the 1940s and 1950s,
Greek students also received BAs
and MAs, although they were
still overly represented in engineering.
HISTORY
PRESENT
GREEK STUDENTS AT TUFTS Usually Tufts receives between 20-30 undergraduate applications from Greece. The average from the last 3 years is 25. In 2004-05, Tufts received 34 applications. Students from Greece are attracted to the strong reputation Tufts has for its international population and attractive cosmopolitan setting in Boston.
About 3 new Greek students attend Tufts Undergraduate Colleges of Arts and Sciences
and Engineering each year.
Students mainly apply from private schools in Athens (Athens College, Moraitis, American Community, Campion).
Currently there are 31 students from Greece studying at Tufts at both undergraduate and graduate levels and at professional schools.
