Please note: All Drop-in programs are open to the public. However, our Family Strengthening program, Abo-riginal Supported Child Development and Aboriginal Infant Development Program are restricted to children

and families residing within the New Westminster, Burnaby and Tri City areas.

EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS:

Family Drop-In Programs: Join us for our family Drop-in Programs for families with children from birth to 6 years old, both here at SOTCS and out in your community. We provide healthy snacks and circle time with songs and drumming as well as many toys and resources in a warm cultural environment. We focus on traditional teachings, such as the Medicine Wheel and the Seven Sacred Teachings. On Fridays we will also be transforming our play area into a place where children can move their bodies and work their gross motor skills. For more information contact Ashlee Cameron.

Infant Massage Program: Thursdays @ SOTCS 1:00—2:00 pm. Infant massage is for parents and caregivers with infants who are in the pre-crawling stage and are of Aboriginal ancestry. Parent and caregivers will learn different massage strokes which will build on and strengthen their attachment and bonding with their infants through nurturing touch. Traditional Regalia Making: Fridays @ SOTCS 1pm-4pm. (8 week program). For Aboriginal families with children birth - 6 years old. Make a tradi-tional regalia, shawl, ribbon shirt, button blanket or moccasins for yourself or your child and learn the meaning behind Powwows. For more information, contact Alana Anderson. Starting January 16th, 2015

Obin Ni’i Prenatal Program (Gitxsan for ―I am pregnant): Thursdays @ SOTCS 9:30am– 12:30pm. (8 week program) Any Aboriginal pregnant women can register at any point during her pregnancy. Soon to be mothers will learn about their pregnancy in a traditional and clinical way. For more information contact, Carly Quinlan. Starting January 29th, 2015

Protecting Our Children’s Spirit Program (POCS): Friday @ SOTCS 9:30am-12:30pm. (10 week program) Parents/caregivers with children birth to 6 years old will learn child development stages and parenting skills. Lessons are based on Medicine Wheel teachings and the Seven Sacred Teachings. Bus tickets, child minding, and meals (breakfast snack and light lunch) are provided. FASD Parenting Support Group 12:30pm to 2:30pm. For Aboriginal parents, grandparents, and caregivers who are raising children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. For more information contact, Mary Gwynne. January 9th & 23rd.

Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD): Aboriginal Supported Child Development Consultants support children who have extra support needs in childcare settings for Aboriginal families living in the Burnaby, New Westminster and Tri-cities area. Consultants support working families or those in school, to find licensed child care centers, assist with developmental assessments, support developmental goals and access resources. No diagno-ses required. Self-referrals accepted. For more information, contact Liz Wilson or Dolores Talavera.

Hasé Drop-in: Saturdays @ SOTCS 10:30am– 1:30pm. A program for Aboriginal children who require extra support. Professionals from BC Centre for Ability are on-site for consultation and support in the areas of Speech and Language, and Occupational therapy (such as eating and sleeping concerns). Caregivers can learn techniques, obtain resources and developmental activities. Snack, lunch and bus tickets are provided. Open to everyone; however, priority given to waitlist families. Starting January 10th, 2015.

Powwow Dancing Drop-in Program: Come out and learn different styles of powwow dancing, traditional and contemporary with traditional teachings, protocol and physical health. Teachers Carmen Littlejohn and Tyler Jacobs. Open to everyone. Location to be announced. For more information contact Carmen Littlejohn. Starting January 15th, 2015.

Beading Drop-in Program: Please come and join our traditional beading program at SOTCS and learn different styles of beading with Verl Ferguson.

WOMEN’S SUPPORT CIRCLE: Mondays from 4:00pm - 7:00pm @ SOTCS. For Aboriginal women to connect in a supportive social network; learn edu-cational topics along with cultural teachings. Drop-in, bus tickets, and snack provided. Program is on an ongoing basis. Starting January 12th 2014

ELDER’S TEA & BANNOCK CIRCLE: Tuesdays from 2:00 - 4:00pm @ SOTCS. All Elders welcome! Come in and drop by. For more information contact Joan Delorme. Next session begins January 13th 2014

WOMEN & MEN ‘TRADITIONAL ABORIGINAL PARENTS PROGRAM’ (T.A.P.P.): 3 days a week @ SOTCS. Men’s TAPP Monday, Tuesday & Wednes-day from 4:00—7:00pm. Women’s TAPP Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 9:30-2:00pm. Registration Required. This program is modeled around the Medicine Wheel. TAPP is a strength based model supporting individual & family development through educational teachings, sharing personal stories & learning traditional Aboriginal culture. Participants have the opportunity to receive one to one support. Bus tickets, child-minding & snacks provided. Accepting registrations. Men’s TAPP begins January 12 2015 and Women’s TAPP begins January 12 2015.

TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Wednesdays from 4:00pm - 7:00pm @ SOTCS. Facilitator will share traditional teachings associated with food preparation, recipes, and stories to promote health and nutrition. Participants will prepare meals to take home for their family to enjoy. For more information contact Karla Hahn. Next session begins January 14th 2014

FAMILY STRENGTHENING WORKERS (FSW): Registration Required. Provides a supportive environment to Aboriginal families experiencing life chal-lenges. Assists families in creating, or increasing, natural and extended family supports in the community and to assist families in developing specific strategies in dealing with family challenges. The FSW will support the Indigenous cultural spiritual beliefs and value systems of the families and will em-power families to effectively meet their needs.

INDIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL SURVIVORS SOCIETY: A Resolution Health Support Worker is available to provide frontline emotional support to eligi-ble former IRS students and their family members when and where required in all phases of the IRS Settlement Agreement, paying particular attention to those individuals in crisis. Available by appointment only every Monday from 9:30am-2:00pm.

YOUTH PROGRAMS:

‘ISKWEW’ GIRLS GROUP PROGRAM: Fridays from 4:00 - 6:30PM @ SOTCS (10 week program). Registration required. For youth 12-18 years old. The Program has cultural, social and recreational activities. For registration please contact Shanelle Bath. Next session begins January 16th 2015.

‘BAND OF BROTHERS’ BOYS PROGRAM: Wednesdays from 4:00 - 6:30PM @ SOTCS (10 week program). Registration required. For youth 12-18 years old. Weekly session include: cultural, physical, mental, educational and spiritual teachings. For registration please contact Chris Perez. Next session begins January 14 2015.

‘THE URBAN DRUM’ YOUTH PROGRAM: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:00 - 6:30pm @ SOTCS. For youth 13 to 19 years old. Youth focus on person-al development, cultural teachings, and creative expression. We provide a healthy and supportive environment where youth can be themselves and engage in fun-filled activities throughout the year. We provide meals and bus tickets. Aboriginal Infant Development Program (AIDP): Our Consultants promote bonding and healthy development. They provide parents with information about developmental stages and delays with their children aged 0-6 years old as well as cultural resources. Self-referrals accepted. and mothers (co-ed). The program focuses on strengthening, motivating and inspiring parents to dedicate their best efforts in teaching and raising children to develop their fullest poten-

tial and attributes required for success in life, for both parents and children. Bus tickets, childminding, and meals provided. Registration Required. HOUSING SUPPORT PROGRAMS:

Family Housing Support Program: Walk-In and Appointment Based only: We assist families in homelessness prevention and help with goal planning. Appointments available Monday - Friday 9:00am-4:00pm (except Tuesdays). For more information, please contact Ed Lam. Housing First Youth Program: Walk-In and Appointment Based only: This program supports Youth who are episodically and chronically homeless with priority given to Youth ageing out of care. YOUTH PROGRAMS: Our Youth Hub is located @ 2664 Kingsway Ave, Port Coquitlam. (Please see our youth brochure for additional programs being offered)

SOTCS will offer a caring and empowering setting where they can learn their Culture in a fun and insightful way. Registration is ongoing and runs all year. Tweenies Group: Thursdays 4:00pm-7:00pm for Youth ages 7-12. Free shuttle from local schools and our New West location (available upon request). Since this age has just transi-tioned out of early childhood, we will be working with different aspects of youth development with the main focus on building a strong sense of Belonging. Our indigenous perspectives and medicine wheel teaching will be intertwined throughout all programing. Registration is ongoing and runs all year.

Youth Enhancement Program: On-going 1:1 Outreach support for Children/Youth that are in care, out of care, and are at risk of coming into care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. This enhancement program will assist the children/youth from the ages 7 to 12 (tweenies) and 13 to 19 (youth) with culturally appropriate Rites of Passage for when they transition out of care. To engage and empower our future leaders. Registration is ongoing and runs all year. SOGI Group: Fridays 5:00pm-8:00pm for All Ages. Sexual Orientation Gender Identification support group and circle. Our goal is to include and celebrate diversity. Open to all Youth.
