Activity #1 Rhyming Names
Rhyming NamesBrainstorm a list of rhyming name games you do with children (at least 5 per table).
What other games do you play with rhymes?
Activity #2 Songs. Chants and Finger Plays
Make a list of finger plays you do with children.
Edit the list to include those that support phonological and phonemic awareness.

Extending Read Alouds to Centers
Your task… Choose a read aloud with your group. Read the story Talk about ways to extend the book into

Identify materials, ideas for extending and standards being addressed.
Creating a literacy area
In your groups… Look at your personal area (table,
purse, bags, etc.) and gather all of the items that are literacy related.
What are some things children might be doing at a learning center that includes these items?
Make a list of possible activities that you might see?
Key Elements of Learning Centers
Each center should Include: 1. well defined boundaries and traffic patterns.2. Quiet zones3. Soft areas4. Storage5. Labeled bins, shelves, etc.6. Make materials accessible7. Separate teachers materials and student
materials8. Writing materials and books should be in many
areas. 9. Avoid clutter10. You should see all parts of the room
