PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

Today’s Gospel contains a very important lesson for us: trust in the Lord amid life’s turbulence and troubles. The Lord Jesus foreknew that a storm would assail his disciples as they crossed the Sea of Galilee, and allowed them to experience that terror. Jesus wanted his future Church to have confidence in his divine power and assistance whenever “storms” of any sort, especially persecutions, would batter against the Church. In today’s Gospel account we discover two kinds of storms. The first one is the exterior storm, where the disciples use their skills as fishermen to control their boat; but fail to do so, and shipwreck seems inevitable. The second storm is interior: the psychological one – without faith. They became desperate, forgetting that they were the pil-lars of the Church and that their Master was there with them. But then the storm comes to a halt, and they cry out in wonder and awe: “Who is this whom even wind and sea obey?” Jesus reveals two important lessons. One: His divinity – He has power over nature. Two: we (as the Church and as individuals) must be inspired to have confidence go to Him for every need.

The boat, tossed about by the waves, is an image of the Church of Christ, battered by the storms of persecution, here-sies, schisms, scandals, etc. However, Christ is always in the Boat/Church, and even if he seems to be asleep, the Boat/Church will not sink. Christ Jesus promised that the gates of hell would never prevail against her; and the Church has survived many storms, always gaining new vigor and strength from her Master. We can apply this same principle to our individual lives. Our Lord Jesus is in our midst even as we see our society and our families threatened by different winds and waves; but we need not become desperate. Rather we can trust in the powerful divine presence of our Lord. With Christ in our hearts and in our families, the winds of tribulation and suffering, despite their violence, will not be able to sink us into desperation and sin. Let us be unafraid, united as one family, bound together in faith and trust in our Lord Jesus.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church regarding modesty: 2521 Purity requires modesty, an integral part of temper-ance. Modesty protects the intimate center of the person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden. It is ordered to chastity to whose sensitivity it bears witness. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity.

2522 Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love. It encourages patience and moderation in loving relation-ships; it requires that the conditions for the definitive giving and commitment of man and woman to one another be fulfilled. Modesty is decency. It inspires one's choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

Construction Projects This week Widmer Shot-crete Solutions, from Lakeville, started to install the new limestone looking carved concrete wall over the existing limestone wall between the upper and lower back parking lots. The old wall has been deteriorating at an accelerated rate the last couple of years. This project will take about three weeks. Schwab Washing from Eagle Lake has been cleaning and sealing the outside columns on the Church and East and North side of the Fitzgerald Building. These projects are being paid for out of our savings account that is funded from generous bequests and part of the rental income from Kato Public Charter School.

TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 5

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori approach to the religious formation of children. SSPP is excited to announce the opening of a Level II Atrium for children ages 6-9! The Catechetical team has been working diligently on materials and through the 90 hour certification program to be pre-pared to assist the children to fall more deeply in love with God and explore the History of our faith. This hands-on approach to learning greatly impacts the children as they enter into the Atrium, a beautiful space prepared for them to explore the proclamations of the Catholic Church. Contact

Beth Shank at the parish office. Atrium Sessions will be held Mondays beginning in October

Level I (ages 3 - 6[Kindergarten]): 3:00 - 4:30pm Level II (ages 6 - 9): 3:00 - 5:00pm

If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should with patience and courage seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe. Sofia Cavalletti

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
