NEW DELHI, Feb 2:

Highlighting that media scapehas undergone changes,Information and BroadcastingMinister Arun Jaitley todayencouraged bureaucrats to dis-seminate news with “restraint”and without “propaganda” whilesuggesting that politicians shouldtake a lead in this endeavour.

Addressing a workshop forbureaucrats on communicationhere, he said the camera hastransformed news and mediaorganisations have even begunsetting the agenda to which theother institutions were onlyresponding.

The advent of 24x7 newschannels and then the socialmedia has changed the mediascape, said Jaitley, a senior minis-ter who also holds Finance portfo-lio, told the workshop organisedfor better synergy between seniorofficials in ministries, ministers’offices and Press InformationBureau (PIB) officials to improvethe communication flow of theGovernment.

There may be a Governmentset-up but it is the political lead-ership that has to lead from thefront, he said.

“Everybody amongst the min-isterial team may not be to thesame level familiar with the art ofdealing with the media. Slowlyeverybody has to be nudged,because we live through themedia, we communicate throughthe media,” he added.

“If there are programmes ofthe ministry, if there are decisionsof the ministry, they (politicalleaders) have to be the best com-municators. If some of them getinto the shell, then they are wast-ing an opportunity with no cost.Its an opportunity which is to agreat advantage,” Jaitley said.

“So everybody has to benudged, persuaded to reallybecome the face,” the I&BMinister said.(PTI)
