NDS: The guys in themovie "Pain and Gain" areobsessed with their looksand bodies. What is your re-lationship to that aspect ofbodybuilding?

DJ: Well for those guysyes. It’s a very fascinatingculture of body building, where the body builders, bethey amateur or profes-sional, are extremely disci-plined and their worldconsists of eating and sleep-ing and working out. It’s acrazy, crazy world. Theyfind their own comfort inthe world of body building.Personally for me I enjoythe training and work out.For me it’s not necessarilybeing a big muscled guy,it’s just a matter of what an-chors my day.

NDS: Even Bodybuilders grow old and itshows on their bodies. What do you notices aschanging as you growolder?

DJ: I turned 40 this year.So what I do is trainsmarter, try and understand, really try and understand, educate myself on supple-ments and on what I’m eat-ing. When I’m eating it, thetime of eating it, so I havehired a great diet condition-ing coach who is very, veryknowledgeable in not onlyhelping me prepare for var-ious roles but even in be-tween roles and helping meunderstand what certainfoods do and what theydon’t do. I have a very won-derful holistic doctor inNew Mexico who continuesto do body testing andthings like that.

NDS: What advicewould you have to helppeople anchor their day andtheir lives?

DJ: The key thing that Iwould share with every oneis to find some thing thatyou love to do. Somethingyou are passionate about. For me I found what an-chors my day, and sometimes it doesn’t even haveto be a work out. Sometimes it includes just beingon a computer or checkingemail or just taking a walk.In terms of eating: just eat abit clean because all thatbad stuff will catch up withyou later.

White House vows 'Round

Two' in guns fight WASHINGTON (AFP) - The White House yesterdayvowed there would be a "Round Two" in PresidentBarack Obama's struggle to pass new gun laws, after hisinitial attempt crashed to failure last week.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said that the fail-ure of the Senate to endorse expanded background checksfor gun owners, the final remaining piece of ambitiousWhite House reform plans, was not the end.

"Ninety percent of the American people were in favorof one thing; a minority of United States senators derailedthat," he said. "I don't have a legislative strategy to layout to you today but there will be a 'Round Two' andthere will be a continued effort by this administrationand, more importantly, by the American people.".

Carney complained that a small number of mostly Re-publican senators had blocked the background checksbill in the Senate despite the fact that it was favored by90 percent of the American people.

"What the president made clear... is that this will hap-pen. The time will come when we expand and improveour background-check system because it has to be done.It is common sense. As we have seen in our history, some-times Congress takes a little bit of time to catch up to theAmerican people. This is one of those times."

A team led by Ziva Cooperand Margaret Haney of Co-lumbia University in NewYork asked 15 male and 15 fe-male volunteers, all of themdaily cannabis smokers, tocarry out a pain test after hav-ing smoked marijuana, taken apill or a dummy look-a-likecalled a placebo.

The experiment entailed a"cold pressor test," in whichthe participants immersed ahand into a bath of extremelycold water for up to two min-utes, during which they re-ported on the sensation of pain.

Both smoked marijuana andthe THC decreased pain sensi-tivity and boosted tolerance topain compared to the placebo.

But the pill beat marijuanafor long-lasting decreases inpain.

The findings are promisingfor medical uses of the THCpill, but more work is neededto determine its impact on in-dividuals who do not smokemarijuana, say the investiga-tors.

Beneath this global trendover 2,000 years were episodesof continental cooling orwarming, some of which werequite long.

And some continents laggedthe overall planetary trend, butwith the exception of Antarc-tica, all followed it.

NEW YORK (AFP) - Are youcrazy enough to sign up for aone-way trip to Mars? Applica-tions are being accepted by themakers of a Dutch reality showthat says it will deliver the firsthumans to the red planet in 10years.

The main requirements arestrong health, good people andsurvival skills, being 18 orolder, and having a reasonablegrasp of the English language.

The company, called "MarsOne," aims to land its first fourastronauts in 2023 for a tele-vised reality show that wouldfollow the exploits of the firsthumans to attempt to establisha colony on Mars.

Already, the organizers havereceived "10,000 emails frommore than 100 different coun-tries from people who are in-

terested in joining us for thismission," said founder BasLandsdorp at a press confer-ence in a New York hotel.

In all they are seeking sixgroups of four people each. Anew group would make theseven-month journey everytwo years after the first crewdeparts in 2022.

The cost for the first missionis about six billion dollars.

The project has garneredplenty of skeptics but isbacked by Dutch Nobel laure-ate Gerard 't Hooft, who wonthe 1999 prize for physics.

The world's space agencieshave only managed to send un-manned robotic rovers to Marsso far, the latest being NASA's$2.5 billion Curiosity roverwhich touched down in Au-gust 2012.

Dutch reality show seeksone-way astronauts for Mars PARIS (AFP) - Earth was

cooling until the end of the19th century and a hundredyears later, the planet's surfacewas on average warmer than atany time in the previous 1,400years, according to climaterecords presented.

In a study spanning two mil-lennia published in NatureGeoscience, scientists said a"long-term cooling trend"around the world swung intoreverse in the late 19th century.

In the 20th century, the av-erage global temperature was0.4 degrees Celsius (0.7 de-

grees Fahrenheit) higher thanthat of the previous 500 years, with only Antarctica buckingthe trend.

From 1971-2000, the planetwas warmer than at any othertime in nearly 1,400 years.

This measure is a global av-erage, and some regions didexperience warmer periodsthan that -- but only for a time.Europe, for instance, wasprobably warmer in the firstcentury AD than at the end ofthe 20th century.

The investigation is the firstattempt to reconstruct temper-atures over the last 2,000 yearsfor individual continents.

It seeks to shed light on afiercely-contested aspect inthe global-warming debate.

Sceptics have claimed boutsof cooling or warming beforethe Industrial Revolution -- in-cluding two episodes in Eu-rope called the MedievalWarm Period and the Little IceAge -- are proof that climatevariations are natural, notman-made.

The new study does notwade into the debate aboutgreenhouse gases, but pointsto two planetary trends.

The first is a clear, pro-longed period of cooling. Itmay have been caused by acombination of factors, includ-ing an increase in volcanic ac-tivity, with stratospheric ashesreflecting the sunlight, or a de-crease in solar activity or tiny

put the advantages they'veearned to good use.

They held the Bucks to 42percent shooting and out-re-bounded them 46-31.

The bad news for all theteams hoping to knock Miamioff their throne -- James thinksthe Heat can do a lot better.

"We know we can play a bet-ter game," James said. "We did-n't play our best game. We didn'tshoot the ball like we're capableof doing from the outside. Butthe one thing that we did do waswe shared the ball once again. We had 22 assists and we re-bounded the ball, too."

The game was one of twoEastern Conference first-roundseries openers on Sunday. Inthe other, Paul George's triple-double fueled the Indiana Pac-ers' 107-90 victory over theAtlanta Hawks in Indianapolis.

And it was just one of thelopsided results in the West onSunday, followed by the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thun-der's 120-91 triumph over theHouston Rockets.

Spurs point guard Parkernoted that without Bryant, theLakers were "a totally differentteam."

"Nothing worse than watch-ing your brothers struggle andu can't do anything about it,"Bryant tweeted after the gameended.
