Community Compost Giveaways…
Where does the compost come from?
Our compost comes from kerbside collected food and green garden waste that is collected by your district councils and taken to our facilities at Farington or Thornton.
How does it become compost?
When we receive your food & green garden waste we load it onto a conveyor and we shred it and sieve it to remove stones and large pieces of wood.
This then goes on another conveyor to the compost hall where it is turned every day and water added. The temperature and conditions in our compost hall are kept at the optimum to ensure our compost is sanitised and safe for use.
How long does it take to become compost?
This process takes six weeks.
