Guests are welcome and are asked to pay $5.00 at the door. No December Meeting Just a quick reminder: There will not be a TVQG General Meeting in December. Regular monthly meetings will resume as of January 16, 2018. November Speaker This month’s speaker is Helene Knott. Helene will be giving a presentation on Journal Quilts, which she calls ‘Small Wonders’. Her trunk show program will focus on her students’ and her Journal Quilts, which are small quilts (usually page sized), that are used to try out new techniques. For her presentation to our guild, Helene notes “I have active Journal Quilt groups running at a couple of the local quilt shops where we hold a monthly class to explore techniques a bit more on the artistic end of the spectrum than you might usually encounter in a typical quilting class. Fabric stamping, painting, beading and embellishments, creative stitching and fabric manipulation… these are just a few of the areas we have delved into and having access to borrow my students’ quilts gives me the opportunity to show not only my own interpretations of the various techniques but the work of my students as well.” UFO Contest TVQG’s UFO contest began as of the October 2017 meeting and will conclude at the October 2018 meeting. If participating in this contest, bring your completed quilt to any general meeting and present it during the Show and Tell portion of the meeting. A drawing ticket will be issued for each completed quilt shown. So the more quilts you finish the better your chances are of winning the contest. HST Challenge Our Half Square Triangle (HST) Challenge is currently underway. Members accepting this challenge should create a quilt using any HST design or layout they choose. Finished Challenge Quilts will be presented in Feb 2018 and prizes will be awarded to three participants.

November Speaker

Charity Quilter’s Sew Day The next charity sew day will take place at the Sherwood Senior Center on Monday, November 6th at 10:00 am. If attending, please bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. The charity sewing committee has a nice assortment of fabrics and batting available for our quilters to use for any charity quilting project. We look forward to your joining us.

Budget Update TVQG’s budget for the 2017-2018 year is currently underway. We will have an update to provide to members by the next meeting

Winter Bazaar

The King City Winter Bazaar is November 10th and 11th, just a few short days away. All members are encouraged to donate their handcrafted items as well as volunteer to spend an hour or so manning the sales tables during this two-day event. A copy of the sign-up sheet to work the sales tables is attached at the end of this newsletter. There are still a couple of open time slots. If you can help, please reach out to our Bazaar Chairperson, Cindy Calderwood at [email protected].

It’s not too late to donate your items. If you have made something that you would like to donate to TVQG’s Winter Bazaar sales booth, you can drop them off as late as either the evening before the sale, Thursday, Nov 9th between 5:00pm – 6:00pm or on Friday morning starting at 8:30am. Or if you need to have your items picked up, contact Cindy Calderwood. REMINDER: This is TVQG’s only fund-raising event this year. Hopefully, your donation items are underway.

Costume Sewing Anybody? Sharon Maroney, Producing Artistic Director for the Broadway Rose Theater reached out to TVQG asking if any of our members are interested in assisting their theater efforts by helping with costume sewing. If interested please contact Sharon at [email protected]

Valant Warrior Project At our October General Meeting, Erin introduced Cinda who presented attendees with information and a flyer (shown below) about a Valiant Warrior Quilting Project that is taking place at Cabela’s in Tualatin November 10th and 11th Here is a brief overview of her presentation:

Quits are hospital bed sized at 50”x80”, simply constructed using “quilt as you go” method, constructed with flannel blankets as batting and twin size sheets as backing.

Donations of fabric cuts, a minimum 7” x Width of Fabric, flannel blankets and twin-flat sheets would be welcomed. Drop off anytime at Cabela’s.

Retreat Updates Again this yearTVQG will offer two retreats for our quilters to attend. Following is information on each of these retreats:

Oregon Gardens

Set in the beautiful Oregon Gardens, this is the first of our two yearly retreats, This retreat will take place Friday, March 16th through Sunday March 18th. If interested in attending, please contact Sue Brim. A $25 deposit will be needed to hold your reservation. Registration fees are due by November 21, 2017 Guild meeting. Balance is due by January 16, 2018. Registration forms were recently distributed to all TVQG members.

Tilikum Lodge

This four-day retreat is taking place Thursday, April 26, 2018, through Sunday, April 30th at the Tilikum Lodge in Newberg, OR. This will be the 10th year TVQG has hosted this retreat. The cost to attend this all-inclusive retreat is $255 per person for 4 days or $200 for 3 days based on double occupancy. Registration forms have been sent out to all TVQG members, and will be available at upcoming TVQG General Meetings through March. A $25 deposit is needed to hold your spot, but hurry because spots for this retreat fill up fast. Charity Quilt Donation Paula Cash let members attending the October Guild meeting that she donated the completed quilt from our recent Round Robin Challenge to be auctioned off by charity and has received a donation receipt of $500 with hopes that the charity will receive in excess of a $1,000 for her quilt. Here is a photo of her lovely quilt.

Membership Update We’ve seen several new faces at our guild meeting, and we just want each and every one of you to know that your membership and participation in our guild and its activities are appreciated.

As of the September General Meeting, TVQG has a total of 60 members.

Greeters Each month one of our members volunteers to assist as a Greeter at our General Meeting. The Greeter assists members with checking in, assists guests and new members with finding a seat, or answers questions like where to put their completed Block of the Month or Fat Quarters. Our greeter for November is Barbara Williamson.

Block of the Month

November Block of the Month

TVQG members are invited to make the Gosling Go Round block for our November block of the month.

Instructions are available in the members only section of our website at https://tvqg.wordpress.com/ and have been included at the end of this newsletter. The finished block size is 12'' x 12''. It's suggested that you use yellow in the center, spring colors for the geese, medium blue in the corners, and a cream background. We'll hold a drawing for the blocks at our November 21st meeting.
