AA mmeessssaaggee ffrroomm oouurr PPrreessiiddeenntt…… Well I finally had enough of the winter that would never
end and headed to a warmer climate for a few days.
Spring does appear to be upon us as I have 3 pairs of
bluebirds fighting over 2 bird boxes. Hopefully they will
figure it out and all will find a place to nest. While feeding
the cows the other day I saw at least 25 robins sitting in
the trees and on the fences - a very neat sight. I see lots
of calves around the area although mine are much later
than we had anticipated.
I want to thank the Event Committees for welcoming the
Board at their latest meetings. We presented the MRAS
financial situation and talked about some of the changes
we see coming in terms of Board Governance. We were
very happy with the response we received and the great
ideas that came out of those meetings. We are striving to
make ourselves available for open discussions on what
your MRAS Board is doing and how we hope to proceed in
the future. Ultimately we want to get the Board looking
longer term making sure MRAS can be sustained well into
the future rather than looking day to day.
One of the most important things we have been working
on is looking into areas where we can save money. I am
pleased to say the Mick Howden and Brent Foster have
done a detailed review of our budgets and things are
looking very good. Anna has recently completed a
review of our energy contracts and we will be making
some changes to secure lower costs into the future.
Plans are well under way for all our major events and I
hope we will have a very successful summer. The
opening day of the Farmers Market is just around the
corner along with the Run to The Market ½ Marathon.
I would remind you that your agricultural society runs or
the generous time donated by all our volunteers. If you
would like to get more involved please contact the office
and they will put you in contact with the event chairs.
Look for a message from our treasurer in the next note
from the Board.
Till next time,
Malcolm Sills MRAS President
Millarville-Stockland 4-H Beef Club
The Millarville-Stockland 4-H Beef Club’s year is drawing to
a close with our members preparing to sell their projects.
We have 15 steers, and 8 sheep that will be sold by public
auction at 4-H on Parade, June 1st. 4-H on Parade runs from
May 31st to the sale day June 1st, at the Calgary Stampede
Grounds and all the members will show their animals prior
to selling them. The showing is competitive halter classes
where the animals are judged on confirmation and finish,
and the members are judged on showmanship. These
animals are all hand fed daily, and cared for by each
member, who have all meticulously tracked the progress of
their animal. They keep track of feed intake, weight gain,
costs associated with, and the health and progress of their
projects from the start of the year in November, until sale
day, June 1st. Our members would like to invite you to
come and support our club, and purchase some of the best
meat available anywhere. For more information contact
one of our leaders, Susan Jeffery at 403-931-3132.
MMiillllaarrvviillllee HHoorrttiiccuullttuurraall CClluubb Every second Tuesday of the month (Sept to May) a speaker
is arranged to talk and share their knowledge with the club.
We also organize a bus trip and a plant sale in June. May
13 we will be discussing growing peonies at the Millarville
church house at 7:30 pm. This will be our pot luck as well
starting at 6:30 pm (bring your favorite dish) and to compare
seeding notes. Our annual plant sale is on June 5 at the
Millarville Racetrack at exactly 7 pm. We have chinook hardy
and locally grown plants for sale grown by our members .We
sell out quickly, so be early. Also please remember to like us
on Facebook! Whether you are a novice or expert in
landscaping or gardening, join our club. It is only $5 /year.
We welcome new members. For more information email
[email protected] or call Sheila at 403-931-3989.

Approximately 600 participants are expected to walk/run in
the 3rd Annual Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half
Marathon events on June 14.
Everyone starts in Black Diamond and everyone finishes at the
32nd season opening of the Millarville Farmers' Market with
proceeds benefiting your Millarville Racing & Agricultural
Society.
In addition, the event partners with local, registered charities
who use the event as a fundraising/awareness platform for
their own worthwhile activities. Charity partners include
Okotoks Food Bank, High River District Health Care
Foundation, Rowan House, KidSport Okotoks, Sheep River
Health Trust, Canadian Liver Foundation and MITO Canada.
The event is still looking for local volunteers for what should
be a raucous morning of fun. If you'd like to inquire about
volunteer opportunities for the event, give Rick a buzz at
[email protected] . Every volunteer gets a
commemorative, branded t shirt and a Farmers
Market concession token for the day. All volunteers are
essentially done by 10:30 am and some jobs sooner than that,
giving you lots of time for the rest of the day. Come out and
have some fun with our 135 member volunteer team.
For details and registration, as well as video and images from
last year, go to www.millarvillehalfmarathon.com and follow
us on Facebook at

Bun Run 8 miles.
Join us for a Run To The Millarville Farmers Market!!!
FFrroomm tthhee TTrraaccttoorr SShheedd Hi everyone, looking outside, doors are open, windows are open, Yahoo!!
The sand-ring has been groomed for the first time last Friday and is ready
to be used. I'm not going to put that on a grooming schedule, I'll do it as
needed and weather permitting. Rodeo arena will be done soon.
I'm putting the finishing touches on my "Drinking Water Safety Plan" a
requirement from Alberta Environment. Don't think for a moment that this
wasn't a stretch for this "old timer". Anyway I can now concentrate on the
great outdoors.
This is the time of year that we start looking for summer workers to do
grounds maintenance and cleaning, if you are interested send your resumes into the office. You have to have a valid
Alberta driver’s license, and are self-motivated, the rest I can train. There will be an interview process on the chosen
resumes.
You will soon notice large piles of riprap appearing at the track; it will be used for armoring the riverbank. I would also
like to thank the MD for picking up the pot-holes off our road. Special thanks to Mike Gallant, Darcy Harper and Mr.
Maclean (grader operator extraordinaire).
