Director's Notes 1 fell in love with this work by Fugard at first reading. The story line is deceptively simple, yet so imaginative and so engrossing in the depiction of its three characters that you can 1t help being drawn into their lives. What they feel is ultimately what you feel- the real basis for the powerful impact this work makes and the understanding that that leads to .

About The Staff LEE BURKHARDT (Costumes) is back in the area that originally drew her to AACT. This production marks the sixth show Lee has served as costumer or co-costumer. During the day, Lee is Admin. Assistant to the Chair of the UofM Chemistry Department.
DIANE BRANCZIESZ (Make-up) has enjoyed working on the Make-up crews for CINDERELLA, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, MORNINGS AT SEVEN, and ON THE 20TH CENTURY. She has four years experience with Children's Theatre Workshops and nearly three years demonstrating stage and film make-up at various schools.
WAYNE BURKHARDT (Set Builder) joined Civic Theatre in 1988 and became the scene shop manager soon after. Wayne has also been involved in producing plays, in many backstage crew ~ctivities, in the building of sets, and has done a few walk-on parts. Wayne was the liaison for the renovation of our new building. He is presently Building Manager, still manages the scene shop, is chair for special effects, serves as Vice President for Production, participates on a number of committees, and continues to assist in the renovation projects. He calls it a busy and rewarding way to spend one's time.
TOM COOGAN (Properties) is enjoying his first year participating with AACT. He was involved in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK as Assistant Props Manager, with LEND ME A TENOR as a set construction worker, and with MORNINGS AT SEVEN and ON THE 20TH CENTURY running props. Other production involvement includes: BUS STOP and CALIFORNIA SUITE, both with the Farmington Players.
DAVID FORSTOT (Sound Designer) has been very active with AACT. Shows he has worked on include SNEAKY FITCH, SWEENEY TODD, FOXFIRE, WAIT UNTIL DARK, CANDIDA, DANGEROUS LIAISONS, and CINDERELLA. He was recently in a production of PRINCES IN THE HALLWAYS:A PLAY ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS with the Washtenaw Area Council for Children and the Assault Crisis Center. In his spare time he enjoys working on computers, cars, and wood.
CONRAD MASON (Director) has been active in local community theatre groups for over 30 years, and this production, is his 46th. Directing credits include ANYTHING GOES, THE ODD COUPLE, BLITHE SPIRIT, THE CURIOUS SAVAGE and, for AACT, two 'best' award winners, THE FOREIGNER and BRIGADOON. He last appeared on stage for AACT in CANDIDA. His favorite role has been Tevye in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF; other acting credits include MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940 (in which he played the director!), INHERIT THE WIND, GYPSY, ANYTHING GOES, and LI'L ABNER among others. Conrad served as AACT Board President last season. He works as a consulting meteorologist and as a computer systems consultant at the UofM.
BOB SEEMAN (Set Designer/Builder) has completed his 30th set design project for AACT. Starting in 1960 as a backstage helper on a production of WONDERFUL TOWN, Bob has participated in a number of areas (acting, producing, administration, set building and designing.) Last year he co-designed BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS with joe Medrano and SWEENEY TODD with john Mouat. This year he co-designed and built MORNINGS AT SEVEN with Barb Wells.
MICHELLE TRAME LANZI (Stage Manager) returns to AACT after a brief hiatus during which she got married, and most recently, worked with the Wild Swan Theatre both as the Production Stage Manager and as a performer in THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS. For AACT she stage managed last fall's WAIT UNTIL DARK, as well as performing virtually every teen role available since 1990. Michelle's other stage management experience includes working with the Michigan Opera Theatre, the Virginia Opera, and Spoleto Festival USA.
ANN VANDEMARK !Assistant Director) is currently president of AACT and has played many roles as performer, choreographer, director, Board member and co-chair of the Play Selection Committee. She directed Second Stage's CANDIDA last fall and will direct LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE for the Dexter Community Players this summer.

WE'VE GOTTA PICK A POCKET OR TWO
~~ In 1991, Ann Arbor Civic Theatre purchased a
building on Platt Road and has completely renovated it to create a marvellous 26,000 square foot performing arts complex that can be used not only by Civic Theatre, but also by other regional arts groups. The facility includes: a 175 seat theater; three rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, costume and scene shops; storage areas; common areas and business offices. Community interest in this project continues to be strong and subscription sales to Second Stage shows, performed in the new theater, have rocketed.
Our fund raising goal to support the purchase and renovation of our new home is $1.25 million. What's really exciting is that $979,494 is already committed, which means that we have only $270,506 left to raise.
I invite you to become a part of this important project by pledging a gift. If you have already made your gift to our project and would like to make an
