The meeting was February 18th at The Ranch. There
were 22 members from both clubs in attendance.
Committee Reports:
Drag Racing:
The trophies were discussed, and we are waiting on
sized to determine which best fits the budget. Jared is
still t4rying to contact Pedders and SCCA for
assistance with the Autocross. If anyone has a
contact, please forward that on to Jared..
Hotel/Ranch:
The room count is looking good at the Hotel, and
there are several RV spots filling up at the Ranch. We
will be hiring overnight security at The Ranch
Registration:
There are 59 registrations to date. We are still waiting
on the report section of the online registration process
so we can move forward with processing.
Finance:
Money is trickling in, enough to pay the bills to date.
Promotions/Sponsors:
The car from Furniture Row Racing will be at the
convention. We are working on some sort of
sponsorship from them. There is always room for
more sponsors and vendors. If any members have
some ideas, please contact Jay for information.
Swap Meet:
No new news to report.
Activities/Tech Sessions:
The activities for the convention are all locked up,
and there are several Tech speakers signed up, with
several names still in negotiations.
Car Show:
The classes are now posted on the GTOAA's website
for Popular Vote, along with the tabulation process.
Parking Lot:
We are still in need of a chair for that committee, as
well as someone dedicated to the courtyard activities.
Audio/Video:
No new news to report.
The updated schedule of events was discussed, with
the latest being posted on the convention website -
www.ncgtoa.com.
The Legend articles are looking great, and there are
many more articles planned for the upcoming
months.
A workers signup sheet was passed around the room
for members to choose where they would like to lend
a hand at the convention. Please contact Mary to get
yourself on the list.
A list of all the members in the GTOAA was passed
around and each member took a handful of pages.
Each member will be called to personally ask them to
join us in Colorado for the Nationals. Please contact
Jay to get some pages of names. A general statement
was emailed out to both clubs in an effort to help
with the phone calls to all GTOAA members.
Apparel to be sold at the Nationals was discussed,
and Norm has already got a new supply, and a list
with prices will posted on the website soon for
preorders.
A design was decided on for all of the show trophies,
as well as the dash plaque art.

PRESIDENT’S LETTER
A bowling warm up for the annual tournament with
the Mustang Club (and possibly others) will be March 10 at
Sweetheart Lanes in Loveland There will be more details to
come so please check back often.
2012 Nationals update:
Please see the full page of 2012 National updates on page 2
of this newsletter. We had another very productive
committee meeting, thanks to everyone that attended. We
are in need of members to sign up for areas to work at the
convention. Attached to the email is the signup sheet. Please
let us know where you would like to help out and we will
sign you up. We are also in need of help making phone calls
to each member in the GTOAA to invite them to Nationals.
There is a list with names and numbers of all GTOAA
members that has been passed around. Most of the list has
been taken, but there are a few more remaining. Please call
me and I can get you what is left. There is also a basic write
up as to what can be said when you call them, but please
feel free to tailor it to suite yourself. If you have a cell
phone with free minutes, making call would not cost you
anything but your time, and it is the hope that we can get
several more registrants with the personalized calls.

Amazed. That is what I am. State license? Check. Fishing
license? Check. Suckers in the freezer? Check. A free Saturday or
Sunday? NOT EVEN CLOSE.
This is the first season that I can recall in the last 15 years that I
have not had the opportunity to get the snowmobile out of storage, or
go ice fishing. It is snowing like there is no tomorrow in the high
country, but still it sits. I LIVE FOR THAT STUFF!! To me there is
nothing better on this planet (yes, that INCLUDES driving my Judge)
than blasting down the trail, across a frozen lake covered with a fresh
layer of powder, finding just the right spot, drilling a hole, setting up
the trusty stool, and start me a jiggin'. Mother Nature at its best.
What you say is the reason for all of this insanity? I will give
you three guesses, and the first two don't count.
2012 GTOAA NATIONALS. You guessed right......
Yep, I assume I am not the only member of the Northern
Colorado GTO Association, or of the Classic GTO Association of
Denver, that has given up something that is very important to them
such as my coveted Ice Fishing, just to spend a little more time to
make sure every detail is covered, give just a little more effort to make
sure all that come here have a fantastic time, and of course to make
sure this nationals will be the one to remember.
So, the way I see it, there is always next snow season to get my
snowmobiling and ice fishing fix. There is always the summer of 2013
for that long awaited cruise or vacation. There is always another
season for that Horse show, Dog show, or any other type of show you
regularly attend. There is always another time in the near future for
that new remodel or landscaping on the house. There is always another
time to take a backseat when it comes to a club event.
There will only be one time for the GTOAA Nationals at The
Ranch in Loveland, Colorado. That is in 2012. That time is less than 5
months away.
It is time to get it all together and join in with the rest of you
club and lend a hand where needed. Our time is now, let's make it
amazing.
GET UP, GET INVOLVED. MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

DDDEEEFFFIIINNNIIITTTIIIOOONNN OOOFFF AAACCCCCCEEELLLEEERRRAAATTTIIIOOONNN Read this thru slowly and try to comprehend the amount of force produced in just under 4 seconds!
There are no rockets or airplanes built by any government in the world that can accelerate from a standing start
as fast as a Top Fuel Dragster or Funny Car!
One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows of stock cars at
the Daytona 500.
It takes just 15/100ths of a second for all 6,000+ horsepower of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the
rear wheels.
Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747
consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.
A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger.
With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into
a near-solid form before ignition.
Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.
At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of reactants and
products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of nitro methane, the flame front
temperature measures 7,050 deg F.
Nitro methane burns yellow... The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning
hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.
Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.
Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After halfway, the engine is dieseling from
compression, plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1,400 deg F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the
fuel flow.
If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes
with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.
In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4G's. In order to reach
200 mph (well before half-track), the launch acceleration approaches 8G's.
Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence.
FEBRUARY 2012 Page 7
www.ncgtoa.com
Top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! Including the burnout, the engine must
only survive 900 revolutions under load.
The redline is actually quite high at 9,500 rpm.
Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each
run costs an estimate $1,000.00 per second.
The current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.428 seconds for the quarter mile ( 11/12/06, Tony
Schumacher, at Pomona , CA ). The top speed record is 336.15 mph as measured over the last 66' of the run
(05/25/05 Tony Schumacher, at Hebron , OH ).
Putting all of this into perspective:
You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter 'twin-turbo' powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the
road, a top fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the
advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and
pass the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment.
The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal
whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the
finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him.
Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly
blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1,320 foot long race course.
...... and that my friend, is ACCELERATION

1968 Pontiac GTO Convertible The car is relatively rare, an original 360HP, HO convertible
with His/Hers Turbo 400, one of 461 built. Other equipment
includes air conditioning, hood tach, power windows, power
brakes, power driver's seat, power rear antennae, hidden

1967. The car now has over 130,000 miles on it. It runs 16.30
at Bandimere (6,000 feet) at about 91mph. It won 1st place in
the 15+ class at the GTO Nats in Denver in 1996. Kathy and I
drove it to Tiger Run in OR in 1997 where it took 2nd
place in
its show class. It also took 2nd
place in its class that same
summer at the Classic Excitement Show in Sioux Falls, SD. It
has made a couple of trips to Iowa to visit my parents. I drove
it to Wichita in 98 where I outran my dial-in at the drags,
running 15.309 at 96mph on a 15.31 dial-in. $45,000

1970 Pontiac GTO Hardtop This is a VERY RARE Canadian GTO, Numbers Matching and
Mostly Original. Only 1,979 U.S. AND Canadian 455 HO
GTO's were made in 1970. How many were Canadian?
This car was originally Sierra Yellow (maybe the only 455
GTO built in Canada in this color) but is now white with the
correct color Judge accent stripes, front and rear spoiler, and
hood tack added. The rear spoiler and hood scoops are painted
black. This car deserves a CONCOURS RESTORATION!
This car is LOADED; it has 27 options. It has been
documented by Canadian General Motors as a 455 HO GTO
with Power Windows, Power Disk Brakes, Power Steering,
RARE driver’s Power Seat, rear defogger, floor mats, electric
clock, under hood lamp, passenger and driver reading dome
lights, 3.07 positraction rear-end, automatic transmission with
console, RARE engine block heater, AM/FM radio, windshield
antennae, remote driver’s mirror, tinted glass, and more. The
original owner’s protecto-plate and warranty booklet is with the
car. The build sheet was found during interior restoration. This
is a car where you don’t have to invest a ton of money to own
an original and correct numbers matching car that can be driven
immediately and that will give you plenty of enjoyment and
shows very well. I can send a complete write-up with pictures.

policy. This covers both Officers and Members while conducting approved Chapter events.
When you become a member of the GTOAA, you get a monthly publication of the Golden Quill
award winning magazine, THE LEGEND. This is a 32 page monthly magazine that contains technical
articles, stories about members GTO's, a large classified section and much more information.
The GTOAA hosts an annual National Convention where GTO enthusiasts can come together and see
the vast diversity within this great organization. From the Technical Seminars to the Concours Judging to the
Activities and Popular Vote Car Show, there is no other single GTO event like a GTOAA National
Convention.
No other Pontiac organization or publication does more to bring together the issues, ideas, needs and
wants of GTO enthusiasts worldwide. Technical experts for each of the production years are available through
GTOAA to answer those difficult questions we all have encountered while working or restoring our GTO's.
The annual dues to join the GTOAA are $35.00 and $5.00 for each additional family member. To
