John F. Kennedy Council 2952 Hammond, LA August, 2016
Grand Knight’s Corner I want to thank everyone who attended the Installation Social and look forward to working with the council during 2016-2017. A request was made to explain how to go about obtaining a financial
donation from the council. To start the process, obtain a Financial Request Form from the Grand Knight and return it filled out to the Grand Knight or one of the Trustees no later than the Monday before the business meeting. It will be brought before the Trustees, who will provide a recommendation to the council and it will be voted on by the council during the business meeting. Remember, the Trustees are tasked with sorting through the demands on the council’s money and making recommendations on managing the financial accounts. While the council’s mission is to help the needy in the community, it takes a lot of money to keep the council operating and the hall open and Bingo hasn’t been bringing in as much income as in the past, which calls for careful management of the finances. I want to remind everyone that the Benefit Raffle Dinner is just around the corner. In an effort to generate ticket sales, we are introducing the ‘Early Bird Drawing’, which will take place during the August and September socials. All tickets sold and turned in by the Monday before the social will be placed in the drawing. For the ticket drawn, the buyer of the ticket will receive a free ticket and the seller of the ticket will receive $50 cash. Remember, the purpose of the Benefit Raffle Dinner is to help the mentally challenged citizens of our community, so please help out by purchasing a ticket or helping to sell tickets. Brothers, I ask for your help and that we all come together as Knights and Catholic gentlemen. I know we all have our differences, but in the spirit of Father McGiveny’s vision for the Knights of Columbus, let’s work together to help others and make our community a better place. Mike Pearson
The Ladies’ Corner Peace – it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.
Unknown Our summer is passing fast and our new year is upon us. Congratulations to all our new and returning officers. I am truly looking forward to a great year and some new experiences. We will have an officers meeting on August 3
rd at
6:00 pm. Our monthly meetings will resume September 7
th with the Pro-life rally at 5:00 pm. The officers will be
hosting the dinner for our first meeting, so we will not be eating with the Knights. If any of our Ladies have trouble driving or getting to the meetings, please let me know and we can make arrangements to get you to the meetings and home. Congratulations to Denise Donlan for being selected Lady of the Month for July. Denise has led us through the past two years. She has increased membership, begun our FUN nights and started a Facebook group so that we can share information with our members, among many other things that needed doing in our community. Thank you, Denise, for all the wonderful things that you have done, and with a loving heart.
Peace be with you, Debbie Monistere

Police Officers' Prayer to
Archangel St. Michael
~ Source ~
The Catholic Diocese
Dear Saint Michael ~
Your name means, "Who is Like
a God",
and it indicates that You
remained faithful
when others rebelled against
God.
Help the police officers of our
day who strive
to stem the rebellion and evil that
are rampant on all sides.
Keep them faithful to their God
as well as to their country and
their fellow human beings.
~ Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel Saint Michael the Archangel isn't a saint, but rather he is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank. St. Michael has four main responsibilities or offices, as we know from scripture and Christian tradition.
The first is to combat Satan.
The second is to escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death.
The third is to be a champion of all Christians, and the Church itself.
And the fourth is to call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment.
Very little is known about St Michael other than what we know from scriptures, which themselves are sparse. In Daniel, St. Michael is mentioned twice. The first time as one who helped Daniel, and the second time he is mentioned with regard to the end times of the world when he will stand for the "children of thy people." His next mention comes in the Epistle of St. Jude, where St. Michael is said to guard the tombs of Moses and Eve and has contended with Satan over the body of Moses. The final mention is in Revelation, where St. Michael and his angels, do battle with the dragon. There are other scriptures where St. Michael is implied, but not mentioned by name, such as the angel; who defends the gate to Paradise, who defends against Balaam, and "who routed the army of Sennacherib." Today, St. Michel is invoked for protection, especially from lethal enemies. He is also the patron of soldiers, police and doctors.
Saints Fun Facts by mario macari
“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle, be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do you, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits, who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls! Amen!”
Pope Leo XIII penned this prayer in 1884 immediately after being allowed by God to hear a conversation between Our Lord and the Devil.
St. Peter Julian Eymard (1811-1868)
Born in La Mure d'Isère in southeastern France, Peter Julian's faith journey drew him from being a priest in the Diocese of Grenoble (1834) to joining the Marists (1839) to founding the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (1856). In addition to those changes, Peter Julian coped with poverty, his father's initial opposition to
Peter's vocation, serious illness, a Jansenistic overemphasis on sin and the difficulties of getting diocesan and later papal approval for his new religious community. His years as a Marist, including service as a provincial leader, saw the deepening of his eucharistic devotion, especially through his preaching of Forty Hours in many parishes. Inspired at first by the idea of reparation for indifference to the Eucharist, Peter Julian was eventually attracted to a more positive spirituality of Christ-centered love. Members of the men's community, which Peter founded, alternated between an active apostolic life and contemplating Jesus in the Eucharist. He and Marguerite Guillot founded the women's Congregation of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament. Peter Julian Eymard was beatified in 1925 and canonized in 1962, one day after Vatican II's first session ended.
Comment: In every century, sin has been painfully real in the life of the Church. It is easy to give in to despair, to speak so strongly of human failings that people may forget the immense and self-sacrificing love of Jesus, as his death on the cross and his gift of the Eucharist make evident. Peter Julian knew that the Eucharist was key to helping Catholics live out their Baptism and preach by word and example the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Quote:
“The Eucharist is the life of the people. The Eucharist gives them a center of life. All can come together without the barriers of race or language in order to celebrate the feast days of the Church. It gives them a law of life, that
of charity, of which it is the source; thus it forges between them a common bond, a Christian kinship”
(Peter Julian Eymard).
