From the Pastor’s Desk: Here we are at the crossroads again, ending the year 2014 and starting down the new road of 2015.

We have experienced a lot together this past year; new blessings along with challenges that we couldn’t have

met without the power and presence of the Holy Spirit and each other.

We never really leave the past behind because it will always be part of us.

Hopefully what we have learned will help us as we go forward and expectancy

will light our way into 2015. I am so blessed to be the pastor of Christ Church.

When I think of all the Lord has done, it lifts me up.

We shared the scripture a few weeks ago from Luke 1:46 & 47. Mary said, “My

soul magnifies the Lord. And my Spirit has rejoiced in God my savior.”

Remember why she said that? The angel told her she was to birth the Christ

Child! We can’t imagine the import of that revelation until we position ourselves to hear from on high!

When we receive God’s gift of revelation there is no place to go but Praise! I pray that as you ponder the old,

old story of Christ birth one more time that you will receive the full blessing of the message. May God’s richest

blessing be on you and yours as we journey ahead in hope through 2015. This may be the year we all meet

Him in the air! We will go forward with great expectancy.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY

Why Recovery?

Why is recovery so important to God? Why should it be important to His children? Why should you seek recovery in

your life? These are all valid questions that need to be answered. Let me start by explaining what recovery is and what

it means to me. Celebrate Recovery is a program inspired by God and is designed to guide His people into a place of

relational foundation with Christ while extinguishing the hurts, habits, and hang-ups we tend to carry around with us

most of our lives.

It’s important to recognize that while we are at various stages of growth and fellowship with the Lord, not one of us can

deny having hurts, habits, and/or hang-ups in our personal lives. “Not that I once had struggles in my life, but that I

continue to have them.” If we say we have no sin, we call God a liar. I know it to be true of myself and am able to

recognize that my life, as well as the lives of those closest to me, continues to be hindered in some form because of my

selfish reluctance to act. Simply put, recovery is a method of pressing on toward the greater abundance of life in Christ!

To obey God is to love God. A life of daily surrender is much more than just saying to God, “I surrender.” It’s walking

the walk of surrender that causes us to grow and remain in good spiritual (and physical and emotional) condition. We

do this by being honest with ourselves and allowing God to humble us, which eventually causes us to change our habits,

forgive and heal from our hurts, and we stop being so “hung-up” by these things. This allows us to come into the

presence of our Lord in a new and fantastic way.

Healing is so important in life. So often, we don’t know how to allow ourselves to heal, or even realize that we need to

heal in some cases. If I’m honest with myself, I recognize that any perspective I have regarding life has been molded by

some experience in my past. Jesus told us not to be conformed to the patterns of this world and this life. Let’s take a

wooden board for instance: a nail in this board can be pulled out, but the hole will remain. It won’t heal, but it can be

filled with something else! That’s what recovery is for—to help deal with the areas of life that don’t heal on their own.

It teaches us how to fill out lives with the love, power, and victory of the Holy Spirit.

Envelope Giving: If you want to use envelopes this year and already used them last year, new ones are in the vestibule between the old and new sanctuaries. If you would like to start using envelopes for your giving, please contact Trudy Gibson (439-4255) or the Church office (435-1060).

When you receive your new box of envelopes, if you are one of those who give monthly, rather than each week, please pull your extra envelopes out and give them to me or just save them and at the end of the year return them to me and we will recycle them. You know my motto: waste not/want not. Using envelopes makes it much easier for those who do the counting and recording of this ministry. Please consider using envelopes, if you don’t already.
