San Bernardino County District Attorney, Mike Ramos, has one of the most challenging sched-ules in the County, “but right now, I wouldn’t be anywhere else,” smiled the DA, when he was get-ting ready to award Fitz-gerald Elementary School second and fifth grade students their G.R.I.P. (Gang Resistance Inter-vention Program) promo-

tional certificates on Nov. 14, at Grizzly Hall. All second and fifth grade students (which this particular G.R.I.P. Pro-gram is designed towards) accepted their certificates of completion and re-ceived G.R.I.P. back-packs/supplies through the DA’s Office. “G.R.I.P. is a grant fund-ed program from the San Bernardino County Dis-

trict Attorney’s Office, which the RUSD intro-duced to the students in 2010,” stated RUSD Chief of Safety and Security, Gordon Leary. “The pro-gram is led by trained RUSD District patrol of-ficers whose primary fo-cus for this curriculum is related to gang and drug-awareness education.” Ramos attended the morning G.R.I.P. gradua-tion ceremony along with assistant district attorneys and supporters of the pro-gram. RUSD Acting Su-perintendent, Mohammad Z. Islam and San Bernar-dino City Unified School Board Member, Dr. Mar-garet Hill was also in attendance. There were 81 second grade students and 74 fifth grade students who “graduated” from the Fitz-gerald G.R.I.P. Program. “We were fortunate that our DA, Mr. Ramos, at-tended our ceremonial assembly, taking the time

to recognize and congratu-late each of our enthusias-tic G.R.I.P. students,” said Fitzgerald Principal, Linda Miner. Ramos (who was former-ly an elected school board member from Redlands) spoke to the second and fifth grade students, teach-ers and support staff.

“You shape your lives, and you will make smart choices,” replied Ramos. “I’m so proud of you.” RUSD elementary schools have graduated more than 2,500 students in the G.R.I.P. Program, which is a four week health and safety curricu-lum for the youth.

Rialto Unified School District is leading the way to save energy! “We have the poten-tial to save about 20 percent of our District’s energy, which is equiv-alent to about a million dollars, a year,” said 37-year-old Jay Kim, who is the new RUSD Energy Manager. “I’m excited at the oppor-tunity to encourage

staff to use conservation as a healthy habit.” A former teacher from the El Monte Union High School District, Kim also served as an energy con-servationist before joining the RUSD this month. “We look forward to working with Mr. Kim as he leads us in finding effi-cient and cost-saving ways to conserve energy,” said RUSD Acting Super-

intendent, Mohammad Z. Islam. “He will be assist-ing our staff in imple-menting some strong con-servation programs, espe-cially during these crucial holiday months.” Kim has already begun the campaign to remem-ber The Three Tips: RIGHT Lighting,

using only the light which is absolutely necessary for work

Keeping doors closed when air con-ditioning or the heat-ing is on

LAST OUT, LIGHTS OUT, which means if you are the last person leaving a room, turn the lights off and shut down ac or heating systems.
