Tsunamis are mainly mistaken by tidal waves because of their similarities. But when Tsunamis actually occur their is not just 1 wave but usually about 7-8 waves. In the ocean, Tsunamis are about 1 metre in hight, But as they approach the shore, they can grow to around 85 metres. Tsunamis occur when the earths crustal plates shift directly north creating a massive wave moving in all directions.
