TSS YEAR 8 News Welcome to the Year 8 Autumn Newsletter. The first term has been very busy for Year 8 and we are delighted with how hard our students are working. A big thank you for all your support, especially regarding attendance. Attendance is the key to success and every day really does count. Our News … December 2016 Fell Running Championships Dylan Thornton represented school at the English Schools Fell Running Championships held at Sedbergh School in Cumbria in September. Dylan completed the race in a fantastic time of 31 minutes and 7 seconds. A keen runner and member of Bingley Harriers running club since the age of eight, Dylan trains twice or three times a week and competes regularly in both cross country and fell running. Emily’s books raise bucks for Marie Curie Emily James spent her summer holiday raising funds for Marie Curie in memory of her aunt. Reading is something Emily enjoys so she decided to set herself a target to read ten books before she came back to school and to get sponsored to do so. Emily started on 23 July by reading ‘The World’s Worst Children’ by David Walliams. Her justgiving page stands at over £800, which is an amazing achievement. Sharon Link, Bradford Hospice Community Fundraiser said; ‘We can’t thank Emily enough. It’s always lovely to see young people doing things like this. Marie Curie cares for people living with a terminal illness, and their families and all our care is free so we rely heavily on the support of people like Emily.’ Netball Trials Well done to Charlotte Kelly who joins Bradford & District’s under 13’s Netball team. Charlotte was put forward for try outs by Miss Pettifor and went on to demonstrate her skill and impress the coaches. Charlotte plays Goal Attack and trains every other week with Bradford and looks forward to representing the team in league matches after Christmas.

Film RoleBudding actress Lucy Blackburn has landed a main part in a film being put together by a group of local actors and actresses. The film is based on A Nightmare on Elm Street and sees Lucy playing the part of a young witch. The group is currently searching for production funding and the trailer is available to watch on YouTube (with Lucy doing the voice over). Lucy is a keen drama student, a member of Articulate stage school and has done many pantomimes with the St James Pantomime Players.

Bradford City Goal KeeperOlivia Townend loved to watch and support Bradford City as a youngster with her football fanatic dad and over the years has developed a talent for goalkeeping. Olivia attended a try-out for Bradford City and was chosen to represent the under 13’s team. She now trains twice a week and plays matches on Saturdays.

Silver MedalHarrison Waugh brought home Silver from the Yorkshire Trampolining Championships held in Sheffield in November. Harrison is a member of Bradford Olympian Trampoline Club under 13’s. He started trampolining only a year ago and has achieved much in a short period of time, training twice a week.

Music SuccessWell done to Niamh Lewis, on achieving her Grade 1 in Violin with a merit and also to Joshua Martin, for achieving Grade 2 in Drumming.

Team GoldKeen swimmer Corey Green, travelled to Holland for a competition over half term where he contributed to the team winning Gold. As well as swimming, the team visited a theme park, one of Holland’s biggest attractions. Corey is a member of Bingley Swimming Club and also represents the City of Bradford – competing in 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke at the club’s last event.

Swimming CampAlso representing the City of Bradford at swimming is Fraser Buxton. Fraser, a member of Bradford Dolphins travelled with his team to Italy during half term for a swimming training camp. Fraser’s last competition was in Sheffield on 19 November where he competed in five events and achieved three 3rd’s, a 4th and a 5th position.
