This will focus on supporting the development of high productivity clusters in specific locations. It will examine how the area can develop, attract and retain skilled workers. It will also look at how to make the most of opportunities from planned infrastructure such as the Lower Thames Crossing. Securing the benefits of growth …..
• Long term venture
• Huge opportunities – Ebbsfleet Garden City/London Paramount
• Plan for Growth target of at least 50,000 new homes and 58,000 new jobs in North Kent over 20 year period
Thames Gateway Kent Partnership
Unlocking the potential …. • Thames Gateway is vital to national growth
• Scope to deliver estimated 290,000 homes and 365,000 jobs
• But delivering the next phase of the Gateway will require private and public investment in transport infrastructure
• Cost of doing nothing is high – business growth is already held back by transport constraints and often severe congestion
• Need for a joined-up approach to major transport investments in North Kent, in the wider Thames Gateway and in South East
• Need to make the case – to Government, to the Thames Estuary Growth Commission
www.tgkp.org
Thames Gateway Kent Partnership
Brexit impact?
• North Kent, Thames Gateway, cannot be immune from any impact of Brexit decision
• Inevitably in a period of economic and political uncertainty nationally
But
• Rationale for the Thames Gateway remains strong
• Long term endeavour …. has survived through many economic and political cycles

Kent & Medway – Growth to 2031
Population Growth
Housing Growth
Economic Growth
The Growth and Infrastructure Framework identifies
the following headlines for Kent and Medway to 2031
The population growth varies significantly within Kent
& Medway, with the greatest increases in Medway,
Dartford, Canterbury & Maidstone
It’s the infrastructure, stupid! Statutory Local Government Infrastructure, Public Sector Partnership Infrastructure & Private Sector
Infrastructure are necessary pre-requisites to support the scale of growth.
The cost of growth
The GIF makes abundantly clear that the current mechanisms for delivering growth do not provide the
infrastructure needed for that development.
Getting our priorities straight:
Local Transport Plan 4 The Ambition:
To deliver safe and
effective transport,
ensuring that all Kent’s
communities and
businesses benefit, the
environment is
enhanced and
economic growth is
supported.
Outcome 1: Economic growth and minimised congestion
Policy: Deliver resilient transport infrastructure and schemes that reduce congestion and improve journey time reliability to enable economic growth and appropriate development, meeting demand from a growing population.
Outcome 3: Safer travel Policy: Provide a safer road, footway and cycleway network to reduce the likelihood of casualties, and encourage other transport providers to improve safety on their networks.
Outcome 4: Enhanced environment Policy: Deliver schemes to reduce the environmental footprint of transport, and enhance the historic and natural environment.
Outcome 5: Better health and wellbeing
Policy: Promote active travel choices for all members of the community to encourage good health and wellbeing, and implement measures to improve local air quality.
Outcome 2: Affordable and accessible door-to-door journeys
Policy: Promote affordable, accessible and connected transport to enable access for all to jobs, education, health and other services.
