Environmental Conscious Society

Features of an environmental conscious society• Society that is concerned about the environment and

understand the importance of ecosystem services and the integrity of various ecosystems

• Committed to saving the planet by reducing their carbon footprint(quantities of waste generated “RRR” conserve water and energy)

• A society that understand that humans depend on various natural systems and attempt to balance human needs to environmental integrity

• Understand environmental rights and responsibilities.

Environmental Education Programmes in the CoT

Legislative mandate:• Section 24 of the Constitution of the RSA - A right to a save and healthy environment as well

as to have the environment protected for the benefit of current and future generations• NEMA principle - Community wellbeing and empowerment must be promoted through

environmental education, the raising of environmental awareness, the sharing of knowledge and experience and other appropriate means”
