Photo by JR Para chin i Plenty of big games on tap this weekend (Continued from Page 25) Union sophomore running back Jamauri Bogan is coming off a 200- yard, two touchdown game in his team's dominating 38-14 home triumph over Plainfield last Friday night. In last year's 17-7 home loss to Westfield, Bogan was limited to just 14 yards on nine carries in the first half. I le did not carry the ball in the second half, but did have one catch out of the backfield. "Jamauri is a special player and a better kid and we're fortunate and blessed to have him," Sheridan said. "We will lean on him on offense. "We run a different offense now and if teams will commit eight guys in a box to try to stop him, we have the ability to combat that." Sheridan was pleased with how sharp his team was last Friday night. "Tin excited because we started to limit mental errors," Sheridan said. "We simplified some things and it kind of all came together." After watching the tape of last Friday night's Westfield-at-Elizabeth game, this is what Sheridan had to say about Westfield's performance: "for 2.5 quarters they played well enough to win the game, but against a home-run hitting team like Elizabeth that's not enough. "What jumps out at me about Westfield is the effort they play with. They are as close to being a fundamentally perfect football team as there is. Coach (Jim) DeSarno gets credit for that. His kids do a good job." Sheridan also talked about the impact the 2008 game against Westfield had on his team that season. "That game was sort of a springboard for us," Sheridan said. "We went on to beat Elizabeth twice and finish 8-3." Both Westfield and Union reached the North 2, Group 4 playoffs in 2008, with Union reaching the semifinals. "Westfield is a great environment for high school football," Sheridan said. "We play at an awkward time this week and we addressed that with our kids to make sure they remain focused." • *« Hillside at Railway, tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Veterans Field: Hurricane Irene flooded Veterans Field, pushing Railway's home-opener Sept. 10 against North Plainfield to Johnson's Nolan Field in Clark. The Indians then went on the road to beat Scotch Plains before falling at Summit two weeks ago in a game that was tied going into the fourth quarter. The Indians had last week off. Railway's home-opener is now tomorrow at 2 p.m^vs. East B Division rival Hillside. Rahway is seeking a third straight win against Hillside, with the Comets struggling at the moment. When Rahway last lost to Hillside-an 18-12 defeat at Hillside in 2008 - it was the only Indian regular season setback in a 10-2 campaign that saw Rahway reach the North 2, Group 3 final for the first time since 1999. • • Johnson at Summit, tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Tatlock Field: Summit is seeking a 23rd straight regular season win. At this rime last year Summit ventured to Clark on a Friday night seeking a 17th straight win overall and 14th consecutive in the regular season. Johnson scored a touchdown ;n the. end of the game and then kicked a game-tying extra point to make the score 21-21. However, Summit was called for being off sides on the extra point, with Johnson electing to take the penalty and the point off the board. This meant that Johnson wanted no part of overtime and elected to go for the victory from less than two yards out after the ball was moved forward half the distance as a result of the penalty. Johnson chose a running play up the middle. After a pile up on the goal line, the officials ruled that Summit held Johnson, with the Hilltoppers coming away with a dramatic 21-20 triumph. Could tomorrow afternoon's game at Tatlock Field be just as close? Well, Johnson (2-1) comes in with a two-game winning streak, outscoring Somerville and Brcarley by a combined total of 62-9. The Hilltoppers know that they will have their hands full with the Crusaders again, who nearly snapped their winning streak 12 months ago.

Plenty of big gameson tap this weekend

(Continued from Page 25)Union sophomore running back Jamauri Bogan is coming off a 200-

yard, two touchdown game in his team's dominating 38-14 home triumphover Plainfield last Friday night.

In last year's 17-7 home loss to Westfield, Bogan was limited to just14 yards on nine carries in the first half. I le did not carry the ball in thesecond half, but did have one catch out of the backfield.

"Jamauri is a special player and a better kid and we're fortunate andblessed to have him," Sheridan said. "We will lean on him on offense.

"We run a different offense now and if teams will commit eight guysin a box to try to stop him, we have the ability to combat that."

Sheridan was pleased with how sharp his team was last Friday night."Tin excited because we started to limit mental errors," Sheridan said.

"We simplified some things and it kind of all came together."After watching the tape of last Friday night's Westfield-at-Elizabeth

game, this is what Sheridan had to say about Westfield's performance:"for 2.5 quarters they played well enough to win the game, but against ahome-run hitting team like Elizabeth that's not enough.

"What jumps out at me about Westfield is the effort they play with. They are as close to being a fundamentally perfect football team as thereis. Coach (Jim) DeSarno gets credit for that. His kids do a good job."

Sheridan also talked about the impact the 2008 game against Westfieldhad on his team that season.

"That game was sort of a springboard for us," Sheridan said. "We wenton to beat Elizabeth twice and finish 8-3."

Both Westfield and Union reached the North 2, Group 4 playoffs in2008, with Union reaching the semifinals.

"Westfield is a great environment for high school football," Sheridansaid. "We play at an awkward time this week and we addressed that withour kids to make sure they remain focused."

• *«Hillside at Railway, tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Veterans Field: Hurricane

Irene flooded Veterans Field, pushing Railway's home-opener Sept. 10 againstNorth Plainfield to Johnson's Nolan Field in Clark.

The Indians then went on the road to beat Scotch Plains before fallingat Summit two weeks ago in a game that was tied going into the fourthquarter. The Indians had last week off.

Railway's home-opener is now tomorrow at 2 p.m^vs. East B Divisionrival Hillside.

Rahway is seeking a third straight win against Hillside, with theComets struggling at the moment.

When Rahway last lost to Hillside-an 18-12 defeat at Hillside in 2008- it was the only Indian regular season setback in a 10-2 campaign thatsaw Rahway reach the North 2, Group 3 final for the first time since 1999.

Johnson at Summit, tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Tatlock Field: Summitis seeking a 23rd straight regular season win. At this rime last yearSummit ventured to Clark on a Friday night seeking a 17th straight winoverall and 14th consecutive in the regular season. Johnson scored atouchdown ;n the. end of the game and then kicked a game-tying extrapoint to make the score 21-21.

However, Summit was called for being off sides on the extra point, with Johnson electing to take the penalty and the point off the board.

This meant that Johnson wanted no part of overtime and elected togo for the victory from less than two yards out after the ball was movedforward half the distance as a result of the penalty.

Johnson chose a running play up the middle. After a pile up on the goalline, the officials ruled that Summit held Johnson, with the Hilltopperscoming away with a dramatic 21-20 triumph.

Could tomorrow afternoon's game at Tatlock Field be just as close?Well, Johnson (2-1) comes in with a two-game winning streak,

outscoring Somerville and Brcarley by a combined total of 62-9.The Hilltoppers know that they will have their hands full with the Crusaders

again, who nearly snapped their winning streak 12 months ago.
