The partners Arts et Métiers ParisTech (www.ensam.eu): Numerical Engineering Team of Mechanical Systems Aix-en-Provence (France). Advanced Engineering & Innovation (A.E.I) (www.aei-aero.com): Spanish company specialized in the design and realization of drilling machines both for assembly operations of the aeronautical industry as well as complex drilling in all sectors. The products range extends from portable machines (Satellite range) to robotic solutions (Spineo solution).

Scientific and technological advances The assisted vibratory drilling process, which is an axial oscillation of small amplitude added to the cutter feed axis movement, allows a regular and controlled chips fragmentation. This new technology is now available for drilling operations and the Satellite portable machines range proposed by A.E.I presents the most advantageous power weight ratio of this products family. Thanks to their design, these machines integrate the two numerical axis necessary for a drilling operation (spindle and feed ones). Movements, including oscillations generation, are carried out using very high-performance electric motors and the direct drive specific architecture (patent AEI / A&M) makes it the most advanced Automatic Drilling Units.

Competitive advantages for economics actors The patented Satellite technology allows a very high productivity gain, up to 10 times compared to current solutions, as well as a very significant reduction in recurring costs.!Due to a large amount of orders for the two major aircraft Companies Airbus and Boeing, the entire aeronautical worldwide sector is looking for such solutions and AEI's objective is to position itself as the future world leader in the field of aeronautical drilling.!

rilling is one of the most common operations in machining and parts Assembly. Aeronautics industry presents new difficulties related to

the increasingly common use of multi-material stacks generally combining composites with metal parts. In order to meet quality requirements on the production line, the drilling of such multi-materials requires an effective removal of the chips in order to avoid any risk of blockage which would cause damage in the composite part and a risk of cutters breakage. The commonly used solutions (integration of a chip-breaker geometry on the cutter, deburring cycles…) are not always efficient on some of these materials and do not allow real productivity gains.

Compact drilling end-effector

Advanced Engineering & Innovation (A.E.I) (www.aei-aero.com): Spanish company specialized in drilling machines.

This new technology is now available for drilling operations and the new drilling end-effector Spineo proposed by A.E.I presents the most advantageous power volume ratio of this products family. Thanks to the specific design which integrate the three numerical axis, the spindle one, the feed one and the vibratory assistance one, this end-effector revolutionizes the robotic drilling concept (patents AEI / A&M / CETIM).

Competitive advantages for economics actors The patented Spineo technology improves consequently the accessibility to the piece to drill thanks to the end-effector volume divided by 4 as well as its integrated feed axis. Its weight, also divided by 4, allows a much better agility and dexterity of the robot equipped with such solution."Due to a large amount of orders for the two major aircraft Companies Airbus and Boeing, the entire aeronautical worldwide sector is looking for such solutions and AEI's objective is to position itself as the future world leader in the field of aeronautical drilling.""
