They c am e to Saud i Arab ia through som e worker ag enc ies in
Myanma r and Saud i Arab ia. Due to their ag ents
mistreatments and failure to fulfill their promises, the workers
have been struggling with their lives since then.
There a re both Bud dhists (inc luding Rakhines) a nd Muslims
amo ng the 26 workers from M yanm ar.
In June, as the violence against Rohingya in Arakan erupted,
Rakhine members were said to have been
threatene d b y som e Rohingya s living in Saudi Arab ia. On the
o ther hand , som e o ther Rohingyas helpe d them
for their survival on the fe eling of b eing the na tion-ma tes.
But rec ently, few self-interested exiled Burmese m ed ia
led by som e Rakhine extrem ists tw isted the sto ry to instiga
te m ore violenc e a ga inst Muslims in Burma . They
rep orted the story as if the t hrea ts ag a inst the said
Rakhines were new ly posed a nd only the 12 Bud dhists
am ong the w orkers were pushed into troub le and strugg ling fo
r their lives.
Therefore, it is very clea r that the se self-centered me d ia
twisted the story with a c lear intention of ta king p olitica
l
ad va nta ge out o f the innoc ent lives through c reating
violenc e. Therefore, it is c learly ag ainst the p rinciples
and
ethics of me dia.
We, RVision, therefore, urge these self-interested Exiled Burme
se M ed ia to be ha ve a c c ording to M ed ia
Principles and Ethics and to stop using the m ed ia as a too l
to instiga te m ore violenc e.
We urge all the Burmese m ed ia to stand on the truth, to wo rk
ac c ording to me dia et hic s and to p romo te
pea c e in Burma which ca n ultimately lead to a pea c eful and
developed Burma .
