Trustee Role Description Background: The Food Chain provides nutrition services including ,essential groceries, communal meals and nutrition advice to men, women and children who are chronically sick as a result of HIV related illness. Good nutrition plays a vital and fundamental role in the fight against HIV and through the provision of these services we aim to ensure that no one living with HIV has their ability to get well and stay well adversely affected by lack of access to appropriate food. The Food Chain employs a small staff and all our services are provided with the help and support of a large volunteer base. The Food Chain has been operating since 1988 and in December 2011 delivered its half-a-millionth meal. The charity is funded through donations from grants, trusts, fundraising events and private donations. We have ambitious plans for the future, as we try to reach all those who require our support. To help us achieve this and to help The Food Chain eventually become less reliant on external funding, we recently moved to a new premise with its own kitchen, which will enable us to scale up our services and to generate new income from a variety of proposed activities.
