Women’s Day has been observed here at Third Baptist
Church for more than fifty years. Dr. Nannie Helen Burroughs, the
long-time President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the National
Baptist Convention, USA Inc., conceived the idea that is now
observed in most African American churches across the country. In
those days the purpose for Women’s Day was much different than it
is today. Yet, it can focus on involving those women who may be
reluctant to allow the Spirit of God “to stir up the gift” within them.
Please join me in welcoming our guest speaker for today; she is not a stranger in the
church of Jesus Christ. She attends, supports, and participates in ministry of her home
church. We are honored that Veronica Sheppard, Esq. consented to share with us on this day.
Deaconess Patricia Davis and Sister Angela Perry have led the women for the second
consecutive year as Co-chairs. We are fortunate to have these young ladies to model
leadership for the younger and senior women of our congregation. I’m anxious to hear more
about the Women’s Conference from others of you. It appears that it was exciting, refreshing,
and really spiritual.
Please remember that the men are waiting to shine even brighter this year than they
did last year!

“Praising and Worshiping God with Boldness!”
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and
in truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is a Spirit; and those who worship Him
must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24 NKJV
Happy Women’s Day! Today begins a festive season in our church.
Worship is truly God (Father) focused. We worship from our inner man
(spirit) and truth. Each of you should be motivated to become worshipers
with praise and boldness. The hour is coming and now is for you to praise
and worship while leading Prayer Meetings, Bible Studies, Sunday School,
and fellowship. You demonstrate your boldness in Christ as you evangelize,
tithe, sacrifice, remain loyal, faithful, and committed here at our local place of
worship. God is spirit and our worship is identified by Him spiritually. Physical expressions are
good, but inward spiritual expressions are greater.
Enjoy your day, and thank you for being our leaders through roles of steadfastness and
ministry. We salute each of you today. After you give $250 and after having your pink Sunday
(smile), you are perhaps saluting cancer survivors and remembering those who’ve won the battle
through eternal life. Be faithful! Begin today renewing your praise through the volume of your
lifestyle and worship.
In His Service and loving each of you!
Joseph A. Fleming,
Assistant Pastor of TBC
I would like to greet you in love and happiness. Ladies, we give God
the praise, for He is worthy of our praise, and we celebrate His mercy and
blessings. For the past seven years, we have come together, and our special
bond as sisters has helped us prepare for this journey of joy and support. We
are united and touch the lives of each other with Christian devotion and love.
Sisters, our theme for our Women’s Conference, “Blessings of Sisterhood for
Transitions in 2011,” was both rich and inspirational. Sister Mary Varner,
our speaker, gave us insight and tips to enrich our lives for 2011 and beyond.
We were blessed by this great woman of God.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sister Angela Perry and Deaconess Patricia
Davis, our Co-chairs for Women’s Day. God is using them as they remind us that we are sisters
“Praising and Worshipping God with Boldness.” It is our desire to please God, and the work we do
speaks for us.
We are blessed at Third Baptist with an outstanding group of dedicated Christian women.
Each year we have been blessed together for both our Women’s Conference and related activities
leading up to our Women’s Day celebration. Your support and loving spirit have blessed our lives. We
have grown spiritually, and we can see the difference in our homes, our church, and in the larger
community. We welcome our speaker today, Attorney Veronica Sheppard, who will bring our message
for this exciting day. Let us pray with and for her as she speaks to us.
In love and peace,
Johnnie Fleming

LEADER: Lord our God, we give thanks today for the witness of bold women. From the earliest times until
today and on into the future, bold women show all of us how to live as God’s beloved children in God’s beloved
creation, carrying out our baptismal call to work for justice and peace for all of God’s creatures.
For Eve, Mother of us all, sinful and beloved we say:
All: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For Miriam, who danced beside the Red Sea, we say:
Young Women: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For Mary, Mother of Jesus, who pondered the angel’s words in her heart, we say:
Mothers: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For Mary Magdalene, first to hear the voice of the Risen Christ, we say:
Single Women: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For Naomi, who rejoiced in her grandson Obed, we say:
Grandmothers: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For the Syro-Phoenician woman, bold enough to challenge Jesus for her child’s sake:
Daughters: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For Mary and Martha of Bethany, who served the Lord together in their different ways, we say:
Sisters: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For the persistent widow, who would not rest until she had won justice, we say:
Widows: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For Esther, who refused to be silent because she knew that her God would go before her as she prepared to go before the king of the land on behalf of her people, we say:
Women in Church Leadership: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: There have been bold women all around us on our way, if only we look for them. For whom do we thank the Lord today? Remember their names and let us thank God for their witness.
All Women: Thank You, Lord!
LEADER: For the witness of all bold women, yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Lord our God, we thank you and
we praise you. Lord our God, let their boldness flourish in our own hearts as we live out our baptismal call to
serve you and our neighbors, with all our heart, with all our mind, and with all our strength.
All: Thank you, Lord! Alleluia, Amen!
To God be the glory for the great things He has done!
What a magnificent two-year tenure it has been to serve as the Women’s Day Co-Chairs here at Third
Baptist Church. We are re-born “Vessels Fit to Serve” (2010) and “Praising and Worshipping God
with Boldness”(2011). There aren’t enough words to tell it all, but we have truly been blessed and
given some of the best during the meeting of the minds. Third Baptist Church women came forward
and volunteered their time and service, and for this we are grateful.
Let’s not forget Sister Ruby Poole (2010), J. Leon Knight and Frank T. Elliott (2011), for their
production of some of the best songs of praise! And how about the newly developed praise team, TBC
Women of Praise (2011)? You can’t beat God’s giving no matter how hard you try!
So in closing, we leave you with these words, “Blessings of Sisterhood for Transitions in 2011,” and
“Praising and Worshipping God with Boldness.” We challenge you to take your PRAISE,
WORSHIP, and TRANSITION to another level!
Love, peace and blessings,
2011 Women’s Day Co-Chairs

God created the rose in the likeness of a Woman.
The rose represents beauty.
The stem represents strength.
The petals are soft as skin,
the fragrance pure and sweet.
The leaves represent
arms outstretched,
always loving, always giving.

God made you special.
