TRUNK OR TREAT OCTOBER 24 AT BCUMC Trunk or Treat will be Oct. 24, At BCUMC! I'd appreciate cars to be here at
6p.m. We will advertise that it starts at 6:30 p.m. for people to get candy
You open your trunks
or the backs of your
vehicles and decorate
them. Then you pass
out candy from your
trunks. The event
provides a safe
family environment
for trick or treaters.
This event normally
draws a large number
of kids from outside
the church whose parents are looking for a safe place for their kids to trick or
treat!
When it comes to decorating your vehicle there are the obvious choices,
like decorating for Halloween, using pumpkins, spider webbing, spiders,
brooms, bats, cauldrons or fun stuff like the 50′s themes or cartoon characters.
I am so anxious to see how everyone decorates and includes spreading the
word of Jesus! ~ Isaiah 41:10 Fear not for I am with you.

WISHES GRANTED + A new copy machine has arrived!!
CLEARING THINGS UP You may have noticed that your
September 2013 issue of the
BCUMC newsletter looked pretty
nice print wise. Why was that?
Because a new copier was delivered
to the church on August 16th! The
old machine had been on its last legs
for several years. A request for a
new copier was brought before Ad
Council this Summer and approved.
After the copier was delivered, a
training session was given on its use
the same day. The machine is very
modern, interacting with the
computer. Files on the computer can
be sent straight to the machine. And yes, it does copy the old fashioned way!
NOTE: It is advised NOT to turn the copier off. It is better for the
networking components to leave the machine on. It will go into “sleep” mode
within an hour. To restart the machine, press the energy saver button.
BLOOD DRIVE REPORT! A big thanks to all that participated in the blood drive on Sept. 16
th! There
were fourteen attempts to give, and ten were successful. We all may have
saved lives!
-Rita Darnell
ATTENTION SNOWBIRDS! If you are a snowbird and would like the newsletter sent to your winter
address, please let the newsletter staff know before you fly!

PICTURE OF THE MONTH This month we present
a very special picture,
taken by Tammy Louthen.
On September 11, 2013,
the FFA (Future Farmers
of America) at Harrison
High School lined up their
trucks and American flags
in recognition of those
lost on September 11,
2001. Tammy’s daughter
Teia is a member of the
FFA, and both she and
Tammy were proud of
this very patriotic tribute.
The Harrison FFA have
done this since 2002
USING THEIR NOODLES The ladies of 4-G (4-generations)
experienced their first "interest group"
on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
Normally, the ladies meet the third
Tuesday of the month for their infamous
"Mugs-N-Muffins," which is fancy code
for coffee, conversation, and goodies.
This time, all the generations came
together to patiently teach and learn how
to make home-made noodles. The gals
taught how to make them by hand and
also with a noodle maker.
Amazingly, even ladies who have
been making noodles for years learned
something new from one another,
including a clean-up tip from Pat Sense.
Always use cold water when you're
cleaning up the flour and it won't turn to
dough. Plus, you can rinse your rag.
Additionally, some rolled their noodles,
some stacked, some added eggs, some
water, some freeze on trays, and some
dry. The varieties were endless, but the
finished product was amazing -- 4 tables
7
of drying noodles. Even
the little toddlers helped
spread out the noodles to
dry. They will most
certainly be delicious.
The next 4-G
gathering will be
October 15, 2013 at 9:00
a.m.. All are welcome to
come learn, teach, or
simply watch how to
make Pumpkin and
Apple pies (and crusts). Maybe you'll learn a new
tip just in time for your
family's Thanksgiving
feast! Questions? Call
Brooke Chinn 586-2251.

AACC Americus Area Community Coalition (AACC) met on Thursday, September
19th at the Buck Creek Community Center because another culvert in Americus
was closed. Just under100 people filled the room to see maps and hear updates
from the officers. Representative Don Lehe listened and suggested patrons express
their opinions to him and Senator Hershman; e-mail is quick and easy for both.
Officers announced the selection of a local attorney to focus on the BZA.
Negotiations for an environmental attorney are ongoing; she will focus on the
DNR issues. Next meeting is October 17th at Buck Creek Comm. Center as the
culvert should still be closed.
Saturday, October 26th
there will be a meal catered by D&R which will include
chicken, BBQ pork, green beans, mac & cheese, and a dinner roll for $10 in
advance ($12 at the door). Children under age 12, $5. The East Tipp Dance Team
will perform at 4:15. There will be face painting by Jamie Davidson and a couple
of other kids games. Silent auction gift baskets will be available at the November
meeting which will be Thursday, November 14th.

ISHE ANESU NEWS "We who have strong faith should help the weak with their problems. We should not
please only ourselves. We should all please our neighbors. Let us do what is good for
them. Let us build them up. Romans" 15:1-2.
Dear Friends and Supporters of Ishe Anesu Project,
On behalf of the children of Ishe Aesu project, we greet you in the name of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Since the inception of Ishe Anesu Project in
1998, so much has taken place in terms of major changes, improvements,
growth and development in the lives of the students, not only in their academic
life but also in their social and spiritual life. Some of those who completed
their high school education have moved on in their academic pursuit and have
earned either a college degree or a teaching diploma. Altogether, 10 students
have completed their high school education and 15 completed middle school
but could not be admitted into high school due to their low passing grades. Of
these, 7 attended a vocational training institution, ending up with skilled
training such as garment construction, hotel ad catering, secretarial skills,
welding, motor mechanics, etc.
You may be wondering about the orphanage. Well, we have found it
appropriate to change the name orphanage to Ishe Anesu Center. Orphanage
has some degrading connotation that would negatively impact on the Project's
intention. Be that as it may, the Center is now ready for occupancy, depending
on the availability of funds to recruit the children and the matron or the couple
who will take care of the children.
Finally, we end with a note expressing a financial concern affecting the
normal running of Ishe Anesu. Due to global financial constraints, funding has
substantially receded. At times we are not certain if funds will arrive on time
to pay for the school fees for the students to complete their academic year or
not. For this reason, we have decided to hold on taking new students. We are
not in a position to send a single student to college or to a teacher training
institution. We hope and pray that soon the financial support for Ishe Anesu
students will resume its normal flow.
Meanwhile, we wish to express our most sincere appreciation to all of you
who have continued to send your financial support, irrespective of the amount.
May the Lord continue to bless you and to restore what you give, a hundred
fold.
Yours in Christ,
Maria and Bill (Humbane)

since Rev. Kaye Bass suggested it in 2000.]

STRINGING ALONG W/LADIES MISSIONARY SOCIETY Billie Burkhalter shared her skills of bracelet making with the Ladies
Missionary Society at their meeting on September 16th
. The ladies enjoyed
picking out beads, creating their bracelet design, and stringing the beads onto
elastic beading wire. Billie was hands on helping to finish the bracelets with
square knots. She is a real giver, donating some of the bracelets she makes
for various community fundraisers. Thank you, Billie!
Ladies Missionary Society meets four times a year. Our next meeting is on
November 18th
, at 6pm for supper and meeting at BCUMC in the Fellowship
Hall. Pat Sense will present “Living With Diabetes”. All ladies of the church
and community are invited to join us.

A WHOLE LOT OF PAINTIN’ GOIN’ ON… What are those long ladders doing beside the church? What’s that little
trailer that’s been parked at the church for the last couple of weeks? If you
look at the trim around the church’s doors and windows, the mystery will be
solved! The trim is being primed (twice), glazed and painted. An Autumn
spruce up is in the works and lookin’ good!

RECIPE CORNER Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that
loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. –John 4:7
THAT’S GOOD CHICKEN! For the spice mixture, mix together and set aside:
1 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1 1/2 tsp. onion powder
1 1/2 tsp. white sugar
1 Tablespoon dried oregano
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/8 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1 1/2 tsp. dried parsley
1/8 tsp. celery salt
1 tsp. salt
½ cup packed brown sugar
Rinse pre-cut chicken breasts (36 ounce bag) and place in a large ziploc
bag. Add the spice mixture, close bag and shake to coat the chicken. Place
the coated chicken in a preheated 350 degree skillet in which you have placed
a few Tablespoons of canola cooking oil. Cook chicken for a few minutes,
then turn. Cover. Cook about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cut open the
largest pieces to ensure doneness. Enjoy! That’s good chicken!
Recipe created by: Nancy Schnepp, named by Randy Schnepp who has
requested “that’s good chicken” many times!

FISH FRIED A lot of fun and food was enjoyed at the 2013 Buck Creek Fish Fry (held
on the grounds of East Tipp Middle School on August 24)! The temperature
was 85 degrees with clear skies and a slight breeze that helped to cool the
brow. Along with the traditional fish, fries and slaw, attendees had the
opportunity to purchase bowls of creamy cold ice cream from the BCUMC
booth. (The Ice Cream sign Doug Latia made years ago is still looking good.)
The Boy Scouts made the rounds with cold water to keep us refreshed. There
was also a flavored shaved ice truck on the grounds. But the best thing of all
was this year’s cake auction! Many from BCUMC and the community
donated cakes, brownies, pies and other treats to the auction. All looked
delicious! Especially interesting was Amanda Shepard’s hamburger & fries
cake, Jamie Stratton’s carrot cake, and Claire Handy’s Minion cake!
Entertainment this year included a DJ who played a variety of music for all
generations to hear. We also enjoyed watching students from DMG (Dance
Moves & Gymnastics) as they performed their routines to music. Face
painting and a bungee sling helped entertain the younger set.
A silent auction yielded many fine prizes to those who were persistent in
checking their bids. The main raffle featured the major prize of a John Deere
X300 (or $2000 cash). This prize went to Tina Scowden. $2000 landscaping
installed from Lawn & Shrub (David Hess); Phillips 50” 1080p Wi-Fi Tv (B.
Riley); Apple iPad (Carol Frantz); Whole house humidifier from Bowsher
Heating (Todd Williams); programmable thermostat from Bowhser (Steve
Sherry); House duct cleaning by Air Pro (Hadley); Grandfather clock $400
value from A Fire’s Place (Frances Howard); HVAC services from Anderson
Heating & Cooling $400 value (Tasha Samson, Terry Smith); $250 from
Lafayette Masonry (Tom Goldson); $250 cash from FFR Co-op (Aguira; A
pizza a month for a year from Buck Creek Pizza Dayton Station (Tab Barnett).
Apologies for any misspellings.
There was lots of chatting and visiting, and how are you, neighbor? among
the crowd of 2,827 (served). Seemed to be more than that on the grounds, but
not everyone ate the fish and were counted!
-Nancy Schnepp
How did the ice cream booth do this year? Let’s ask Ralph: One bright sunny afternoon recently a few people from the Buck Creek
area decide to fry some fish. Well you can't just have some fish, so they
thought maybe it would be good to have some fries and slaw. Pretty good, they
thought then but what about dessert? It's a warm day. Let's get some ice
cream! And so it began.
Buck Creek UMC served about 48 gallons of ice cream at the 2013 Buck
Creek Fish Fry. We had a good group of volunteers: Glenda Davidson, Linda Habbinga, Mary Ellen Davidson, Jim Jr. and Anita Davidson, Brooke and Nathan
Chinn, Fred and Michele Roach, Willadean and John Metro, Jay Killian and Ashley
17
Garth, Rita Darnell, Ray Jones, Emily Hepworth, Jane Arnold, Jamie Stratton, Carol
Shepard, Linda LaMaster, Pat Sense, Haleigh Taylor, Nancy Balser, and Dwight
Monical. Chloe Bond-Latia dropped by for a while to help. Karl, Freda, and Frank
Rohrer helped with setting up and putting away.
Proceeds from the ice cream sales are divided between the church and the fire
department. The church's share goes to the Reachout fund to support evangelism and
missions.
-Ralph Rohrer
Thanks to the whole Rohrer family for all their work with the BCUMC ice cream
booth, and to everyone who volunteered to work!

BIRTHDAY BASH! A time to celebrate EVERYONE's
birthdays was held on Sunday, August 18th
after church. It was a great day, and the kids
had lots of fun doing the games (big kids too).
There was great food and great fellowship. A
zillion cupcakes of every flavor for dessert at
the birthday bash luncheon. A bottomless pit
of popcorn awaited those on the game field.
Among the games available were tic-tac-toe
Frisbee; toilet paper toss; cornhole; duck
pluck; loop a lollipop; bounce house; and
football throw. Lolly the clown thrilled the

BENCHED!! Buck Creek UMC Trustee Chair Retta Whiteaker and her husband Mike
were “benched” beside the church on Wednesday, September 25! The Buck
Creek United Methodist church yard now holds two beautiful new benches.
Working on the benches (assembling, staining) made for a long day for Mike
and Retta, but as Retta said, “It was worth it!” The benches make the church
yard look so friendly and peaceful. Try one out the next time you need some
peace and quiet or some meditation time. Thank you Mike and Retta for
showing your love for BCUMC!
