TRUMPET VACANCY The United States Naval Academy Band is seeking a trumpet player to perform with the Jazz Combo, Ceremonial/Marching Units, and Brass Quintet. While Jazz style and improvisation are the emphasis of this audition, a demonstration of proficiency in classical trumpet performance is a requirement. The first round is based on a live video recording, which will be due by August 2 nd , 2021. The accepted applicants will then participate in a live audition, which will be held on September 13 th , 2021. The audition committee reserves the right to dismiss any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards. To be considered for an audition, applicants will submit a one page resume to MUC Emily Madsen at [email protected]. Upon receipt of a resume, recording instructions will be sent to the candidates. All travel arrangements and expenses are the responsibility of the candidate. Active duty musicians from all branches of the U.S. military must also send a letter of endorsement from their Commanding Officer. In order to accept a position with the United States Naval Academy Band, the audition winner must also qualify for enlistment in the United States Navy and successfully complete Recruit Training. A minimum of a four-year enlistment is required. The Navy has strict height, weight, and other medical requirements. Additionally, Naval Academy Band members may not have tattoos that are visible in short sleeves or skirts. Applicants are highly encouraged to seek out the advice of a U.S. Navy Recruiter. A recruiter is trained and qualified to ascertain a citizen’s eligibility to join the U.S. Navy. AUDITION PROCEDURES The live audition will take place in Annapolis, MD on September 13th, 2021 at the United States Naval Academy. To be considered for a live audition, please complete all of the steps below: Step 1: Send the following materials via e-mail to [email protected]: (1) One-page resume (.pdf preferred) (2) Letter of Endorsement - only for current military members Step 2: Submit a preliminary video recording only after receiving specific instructions on how to do so. These instructions will be sent upon receipt of your resume. All recordings are due by August 2nd, 2021. Required excerpts for recordings can be found on the next page. Video should be of the highest possible quality available to the candidate. Video splicing or post-editing of any kind (i.e. switching of camera angles) during any of the required selections will result in disqualification. Step 3: The USNA Band Auditions Committee will be notifying you whether or not you have advanced to the live audition round in Annapolis MD.
