As a split system, Kenworth’s factory installed option provides one of the smallest footprints in the industry, allowing for maximum storage under the bunk. the 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engine is characterized by its combination of proven technologies and state-of-the-art innovations that improve fuel economy and reduce the cost of ownership. the new PACCAR MX-13 engine’s common rail fuel system maintains injection pressures of 2,500 bar, which helps achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption, emission and noise levels. the result of the 2013 PACCAR MX-13 is improved fuel economy by 3% and a 100 lb weight reduction, meeting the demands of both linehaul and vocational heavy duty truck applications.

with one ‘live’ drive axle, trucks with 6x2 axle configurations can offer significant weight savings as well as fuel economy improvements over that of a truck with a traditional 6x4 axle configuration. the tandem drive axle on a 6x2 axle truck has no inter-axle driveline or rear differential. Because of that, it has fewer gears, and as a result, weighs several hundred pounds lighter and experiences fewer parasitic losses for improved fuel economy. the combination of a 6x2 tandem axle configuration and wide-base tires may improve fuel economy by up to an estimated 10 percent.

Coupled with the 6x2 axle configuration, Kenworth offers the Bendix® etrac™ system. utilizing the Kenworth t680’s ABS and traction control system, suspension air bag pressures are automatically adjusted to transfer weight from the non-drive to the drive axle when the system recognizes wheel slip. this provides improved fuel efficiency in a lighter package combined with on-demand traction.
