OUR STORY Troy International was established with our main activity focused on supplying the highest quality bitumen based road emulsification and binder products.

With major partners in South Africa, the Middle East and Singapore as well as With major partners in South Africa, the Middle East and Singapore as well as a highly qualified team of staff in South Africa who have come together with a mutual MISSION: and secured accounts with major refineries in South Africa whilst gaining required experience with imported bitumen from Singapore and the Middle East.

Since then we have embarked on a journey to establish ourselves into an international organisation, able to supply all bitumen grades and bitumen based products to your road construction sites in Africa and internationally.

We are proud to say that Troy international has taken the market share on supply to some of the major road construction companies and mines in Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. We have also broadened our scope with deliveries of product to both India and China on a national scale.

BITUMEN AND PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

Bitumen is available in a variety of grades. Specifications vary to meet the needs of the consuming industries and are based on a series of physical tests that define the safety, solubility, physical properties and durability of bitumen's. The physical properties are designed to define performance characteristics that are required under the climatic and loading conditions that the bitumen will experience in service.

Bitumen is graded according to standardised testing methods. These tests also give rise to two commonly used terms which describe the method of measurement, rather than a “type” of bitumen:

PENETRATION GRADE BITUMEN

Bitumen is classified by the depth to which a standard needle will penetrate under specified test conditions. This “pen” test classification is used to indicate the hardness of bitumen, lower penetration indicating a harder bitumen. Specifications for penetration graded bitumens normally state the penetration range for a grade, e.g. 50/70. Other tests are used to classify the bitumen for specification purposes, such as softening point, solubility, flash point etc. bitumen is classified by the depth to which a standard needle will penetrate under specified test conditions. VISCOSITY GRADED BITUMEN

Bitumens are also graded and specified by their viscosity at a standard temperature (typically 60°C). Specifications for viscosity graded bitumens normally give the nominal viscosity prefixed by a V, e.g. V1500.

OXIDISED BITUMEN GRADES

Passing air through bitumen at elevated temperature can be used to alter its physical properties for certain commercial applications. The degree of oxidation can range from very small, often referred to as air-rectification, or semi-blowing, which only slightly modifies the bitumen properties, through to “full” blowing, whereby the properties of the bitumen are significantly different to penetration grade bitumens. Nomenclature and grading for the oxidised bitumen products is based on a combination of the temperature at which the bitumen reaches a certain “softness” when being heated up as expressed by the ring and ball softening point test, and the penetration value.

60/70 PENTRATION GRADE BITUMEN

Bitumen Penetration Grade 60/70 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the spraying and chip applications.


Bitumen Penetration Grade 70/100 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the spraying and chip applications.


Bitumen Penetration Grade 80/100 or as per ASTM Bitumen Penetration Grade 85/100 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties.


Bitumen Penetration Grade 35/50 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses.


Bitumen Penetration Grade 50/70 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses.

BITUMEN EMULSIONS

Bitumen emulsions are products in which tiny droplets (the dispersed phase) of bitumen or bituminous binder are dispersed in an aqueous medium (the continuous phase). The bitumen particle charge can be positive (cationic), negative (anionic), or uncharged (non-ionic) depending on the emulsifier employed. The binder can be either a bitumen, cutback, or modified bitumen. Bitumen emulsions are used largely in road surfacing applications, such as surface dressing, cold mixtures and slurry seals.

MC30 CUTBACK BITUMEN

Bitumen is ‘cutback’ by adding controlled amounts of petroleum distillates such as kerosene. This is done to reduce the viscosity of the bitumen temporarily so it can penetrate pavements more effectively or to allow spraying at temperatures that are too cold for successful sprayed sealing with neat bitumen. Cutback Grade Bitumen is normally used in spraying and in some mixing applications.

COLD MIX

Our Cold Mix is a formulated mixture of inert fillers, bitumen extenders and binder enhancers blended with selected aggregates and bituminous emulsions to manufacture Cold Mix asphalt for general road surfacing and repair. Cold mix asphalts provide an energy efficient, environmentally responsible way to repair cracks, potholes and other pavement distresses.

CATMIX ALL GRADES

CatMix Bitumen Emulsion is used for various road works such as premix carpeting, surface dressing, pot hole repairing , prime coat, tack coat seal coat & soil stabilising etc. It can be applied in the drizzle when Bitumen cannot be applied directly. It is a readymade product and does not require heating. The Product is manufactured from selected grade bitumen which is dispersed into water in the form of very fine particles by means of emulsifying agents. The emulsifier acts as a reducer of interfacial stress between the bitumen and water and prevents their breakage during storage.

BITUMEN EMULSION SS-60

Bitumen Emulsion SS-60 containing 60% Bitumen, is commonly used for Tack-Coating. This is applied to an underlying surface to aid with the adhesion of the following asphalt layer. Bitumen Emulsion SS-60 Is also used for Fog Sealing, Mist Spraying, Concrete, Curing, Grouting, Sealing, Patching, Formation and Sub-base and Surface Dressing. Bitumen Emulsion SS-60 is slow setting.

NON- REINFORCED BITUMENISED WATERPROOF PAPER

Non-reinforced bitumenised Kraft waterproof paper is ideally suited for road construction, building paper, steel wrapping, crate lining and lining sealant. This Bitumenised Paper is supplied in roll form, and is available in non-reinforced rolls.

HYDRATED LIME

Troy International supplies Hydrated Lime, a scientifically proven product which has beneficial effects on the asphalt mixtures used in road construction. The application of hydrated lime is a commonly used for soil modification stabilisation for subgrade beneath roadways, airfields, and parking lots. Hydrated Lime can substantially increase subgrade stability, load-bearing capacity, and long-term durability. Hydrated lime modifies the surface properties, allowing for the development of a surface composition and roughness more favourable to bitumen adhesion. Hydrated lime can treat the existing clay particles adhering to the aggregate surface, inhibiting their detrimental effect on the mixture. Finally, the high porosity of hydrated lime explains its stiffening effect above room temperature when building on a muddy or sandy construction site.

TRICHLOROETHYLENE

Troy International supplies Trichloroethylene a non-flammable liquid chlorinated hydrocarbon used as an industrial solvent. It is often referred to as TCE, Trike, or tri and is sold under numerous brand names. Trichloroethylene is stabilised by trimethylamine. This product is a highly stabilised solvent used for metal cleaning and degreasing as well as vapour degreasing. Its unique combination of stabilisers makes it especially effective for long-term use. The stabiliser system prevents the build-up of acid in the degreaser and also protects against metal corrosion and reaction in the solvent. emulsifier acts as a reducer of interfacial stress between the bitumen and water and prevents their breakage during storage.

THERMAL ROAD MARKING PAINT

Troy International offers a thermoplastic road line marking paint. This product is a powder paint which can be used on the concrete and asphalt road surface after it has been melted at 180°C-200°C through special heating equipment. The molten material can be screeded, extruded or sprayed on to the road surface in varying thickness from 0.7mm to 6mm.Thermal road paint is manufactured from high quality imported raw materials such as Titanium (Australia) and Plasticizer (Japan). Advantages and features of this product lie in its superior hiding qualities, high temperature tolerance and ultraviolet ray’s resistance.

PETROL PARAFFIN

Petroleum, also called crude oil, is a thick and black liquid. It is a natural material mainly made of hydrocarbons. Most petroleum is found by drilling down through rocks on land or off-shore on the continental shelf. Major producers are in the Middle East, the Americas, and Russia. It is the most important world fuel source. It supplies 38% of the world's energy and is also used to make petrochemicals. Petroleum can be easily transported by pipeline. Treated petroleum can be used as fuels; mainly petrol for cars, trucks, trains and ships as well as for jets as lubricants.

Diesel fuel is a mixture of hydrocarbons obtained by distillation of crude oil. Diesel fuel in general is any liquid fuel used in diesel engines, whose fuel ignition takes place, without spark, as a result of compression of the inlet air mixture and then injection of fuel. (Glow plugs, grid heaters and heater blocks help achieve high temperatures for combustion during engine start-up in cold weather.) Diesel engines have found broad use as a result of higher thermodynamic and thus fuel efficiencies. This is particularly noted where diesel engines are run at part-load; as their air supply is not throttled as in a petrol engine, their efficiency still remains high. Diesel fuel is widely used in most types of transportation including ships, planes and boats.

Paraffin is a highly refined, middle distillate, hydrocarbon fuel formulated for clean burning, with minimum charring of the wick and optimum performance. It is intended for use : IP stoves, heaters and lamps. IP refrigerators, incubators etc. As an industrial solvents and in other processes.

Troy International offers a full complement of forwarding services. These services cover all aspects from import planning and forwarding which can be extended to include customs clearance as well as door to door delivery. We have a global network of agents allowing us to facilitate all types of cargo movement. We are able to cater for all size shipments. Our experienced staff will handle the entire forwarding process for you from inception to completion.

Troy International is your trusted partner for customs clearing of products and shipments. We have the expertise and the relationships to handle your needs. In order to facilitate quick clearance & delivery customs duties and import VAT can be disbursed by us, on behalf of our clients. Payment terms can be arranged for these costs based on the financial creditability of the importer as well as the size and regularity of distributions involved. Customs entries are prepared electronically and the IT system we utilise, linked to SARS, enables us to keep up to date on all matters and legalities pertaining to Customs. Our system is able to process customs entries, track shipments, and arrange clearance and delivery.

At Troy International we offer a road freight service. With a dedicated team that has extensive experience in the transport industry we are able to offer specialised knowledge in all transport related areas, this includes cross border road freight transport into to neighbouring territories.
