Climate
• Average temperature: 77 degrees Fahrenheit
• Temperature: NEVER DROPS BELOW 64 degrees Fahrenheit
– ( Because the plants are not adapted to frost)
Location• CENTRAL AMERICA • THE AMAZON • AFRICA
• SOUTHERN ASIA • AUSTRALASIA
Characteristics
• Rainforest covers less than 6%
• Produces 40% of worlds oxygen
• ¼ of the worlds medicine comes from the rainforest
• It Rains about 90 days a year
• Trees are 164 feet and tall
• Most diverse terrestrial Biome

• Winter: Warm and Rainy

• Spring: Warm and Rainy
Soil Type
• Soil: is very nutrient poor
• Topsoil: only one to two inches deep
• Plants store their own nutrients
• Soil is infertile because it is 100 million years old and has taking a beating from the elements

• Sloth's: – covered in greenish algae– move very slow
• Trees:– Form buttresses to absorb nutrients– Roots must be shallow to absorb nutrients
• Attacking:– Have shape teeth, claws, and horns
• Butterflies:– Non poisonous butterflies mimic poisonous butterflies

Human Influences
• Deforestation: Humans needed space a wood
• Rainforest trees: cleared for farming, grazing, mining, and living space
• Many species are lost everyday
• Example:– A single tree can have as many as 43 species
of ants on it
Medicine
• Most of the worlds medicine come from the rainforest plants
• 120 prescription drugs sold worldwide today are from rainforest plants
• Many of these plants are said to be the next cure for cancer

– Donates money to replant trees
• Care2:– Informational web site to prevent species loss
and deforestation
• The Rainforest Site:– Donates money and time to save rainforest
