Sts. Anne & Joachim, Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Feast Day – July 26th

Saints Anne & Joachim, we bless you for your great faith and love as parents. Your respect and reverence for the sacredness of human life made you the parents of Mary, Mother of the Lord. Through your intercessions, we ask God to grant young people today that same reverence for the gift of new life. May they accept, cherish, and nourish life from the very moment of conception. Grant to us as a nation a renewed reverence for every human life. As Mary cherished her Child from the womb even to the tomb, so may we see in every person the very image of God. Great Saints Anne & Joachim, we ask this grace in the name of Mary’s Son, Jesus the Lord. Amen.

Sts. Anne & Joachim, pray for us, to love Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.

History of Perpetual Adoration

Although the Real Presence has been recognized since the time of the apostles, evidence shows perpetual adoration may have begun in

the sixth century in the Cathedral of Lugo, Spain. By the twelfth

century, St. Thomas a' Becket is known to have prayed for King

Henry II before the “majesty of the Body of Christ,” and by the

sixteenth century the devotion known as forty hours had developed.

In the nineteenth-century France, perpetual adoration developed in

communities contemplative of nuns. The devotion eventually spread

to parishes throughout the world.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament The devotion begins with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. A

priest or deacon removes the sacred host from the tabernacle and

places it on the altar for adoration. The purpose of adoration is to

highlight the presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist. When a

consecrated host is placed in the monstrance, it is said to be a

solemn exposition. Adoration ceremonies traditionally include: Scripture readings, hymns, prayers, and time for silent adoration.

Things to Do During Eucharistic Adoration Pray the Psalms of the Liturgy of the Hours

Meditate using Scripture

Read the life of a Saint and pray with him or her

Pour out your heart to Christ and adore Him

Ask for forgiveness and intercede for others

Pray the Rosary

Sit quietly & just be in the presence of God

Please consider spending time in our Chapel. To schedule a specific day/hour please contact Mary Jo Nicholas at 734-878-9441.
