PREZ RELEASE

The 2015 VTR in Lake GenevaWisconsin was a great eventblending a classic resort area withbeautiful homes and our classicTriumphs. Sharon and I traveledwith Terry and BernadetteMackey down to Lake Genevataking a leisurely two days toarrive in at the Abbey resort inFontana Wisconsin. Found somewonderful roads through westernWisconsin and took a fascinatingtour of Frank Lloyd Wright’shome in Spring Green.

Club participation was excellentand we managed to receive aVTR club participation award.Congratulations to John Myerswho received 1st place in theconcours show with his TR8. Inaddition, Joe Soucheray took 3rd

place in concours with his TR6and Terry Mackey took 3rd placein TR4 participant’s choicecategory.

Our next two meetings will beheld in the Roseville VFW post7555. This location was chosendue to its central metro locationand a good sized parking lotalong with decent facilities andfood. Sorry I will miss the Sep-tember meeting as well due to mydaughter getting married inWarrens Wisconsin.

My TR6 performed pretty will onour trip to VTR until I startedhaving trouble getting it to go intofirst gear at stops. It looks likemy clutch is not fully disengagingand bleeding the clutch hydraulicsprovided no relief. I noticed the

clutch slave is leaking so a newslave will hopefully solve theproblem. Gotta love our Tri-umphs!

Check out our club newsletterfor upcoming driving events. Also, thank you to Orrin McGillfor taking over as club newslet-ter editor.

MinutesSeptember 10, 2015

The September meeting found us at a newlocation, the Roseville Anderson VFW at 1145Woodhill Drive. Twenty-plus Triumphs foundtheir way to the parking lot. Since the weatherwas excellent, a great deal of time was spent inunder-bonnet and under-chassis examination.

When most members had dragged themselvesinto the building and managed to locate thebasement meeting room, VP Jon Meier calledthe meeting to order. Mike and Bill introducedthemselves and the ’69 TR6 that had been intheir family for 35 years.

Treasurer Terry Mackey said that his financialreports are now in the newsletter and thatthere’s some interest in name badges andregalia.

Membership official Joe Demuth was notthere but we may have 95 to 98 members.

The September meeting is the one at whichwe nominate officers for the next year. Manyof the officers were not there so they all gotnominated to serve another year. Orrin McGillwill be taking over the newsletter full time.Next month is the election and TerryMackey announced that there will be a club-sponsored pizza party. So come and getyour free pizza. (No one will be browbeateninto volunteering for a club position.)

Upcoming events were announced. See theCalendar for details.

Finally, our Vintage Triumph Register, LarrySanderson, expressed his opinion thatMinnesota Triumphs should host anothernational Triumph convention. Some peopleagreed with him and some didn’t.

Finally my dinner arrived and Jon Meieradjourned the meeting.

VTR REPORT OCTOBER 2015

It was good to finally make it to aclub meeting at the VFW inRoseville. It is quite a hike for usfolks living in the Rochester area. The food was good but the trafficwas terrible as we have to comeup HWY 52 and then up thru theconstruction zone of 35E. Thoseof us down south sure miss theofficer’s club in Bloomington. Asit was, I still got there late, but itwas nice to visit with thosepresent.

Our club roster of members hasdecreased over the last few years. We remain solvent with a niceamount in our bank account. It isthe same for the Vintage TriumphRegister. VTR still has enoughmembers to stay solvent and keepproducing our magazine dubbedof course “The Vintage Triumph”.VTR sent me a packet of VintageTriumph mags that I distributed toany at the meeting who is not a

VTR member or for memberswho may not have that issue. Ifyou are not a VTR member andwere not at the meeting, I willsend you a sample issue so youmight see how the magazinelooks. Drop me a note with youraddress and I will forward a copyas long as they last.

It is time for officer elections onceagain. If you are a member, please be sure to be at theOctober meeting to place yourvote or nominate someone whoyou know will do a good job.

Remember 2016 will find us allback in Texas as the Red River Trclub will be our host once againfrom Oct 3-7, 2016. It will beheld in North Texas at theTanglewood Resort on LakeTexoma in Pottsboro, Texas.Cost will be $135 for 1 car, 1driver and 1 non driver. You will

get a $15 discount if you registerby August 15 of 2016. You maycome without a Triumph for $20reg fee. Rooms are $99 for anyKing. You may call 800 8336569 which gets you right to theresort. Be sure to say you will bejoining Red River Triumphs onthose dates.

There is lots of motoring left asautumn arrives Wednesday Sept.23 at 4.21 am. So be sure to setyour clocks so you can drive rightinto fall. At least you may want tolook out your window to watchthe change.

Write or call me or check the netat www.vtr.org if you wish to joinVTR.

Happy TR motoring!Larry Sanderson Your MN TRVTR Liaison, 507 269 1500 [email protected]

November Tech Session

is going to be hosted by BobSwanson on the 21st at his home,4909 54th Ave N Crystal MN55429. Bob has a TR3 that wasdismantled and sent to the bodyshop. The repaired and repaintedbody parts now need to bereassembled. This is the trickypart.

A Note From PAT:Sue & Phil Ethier hosted a afterWheels and Wings Picnic on Sept12th.

First let me thank the whole club fordoing the 2015 Vintage Rendezvous inAshland. The list of helpers was waytoo long to mention everyone, it wouldbe shorter if I just name the few whodidn’t, but I can’t think of anyone whowouldn’t help when asked.

Marsha and I have over 20 yrs of MNTriumph membership and we haveseen years when it seemed to rainevery weekend and others like thissummer when it was so nice that Iwanted a driving event for everyweekend. I will try to fill up thecalendar for next year.

As usual we start our year with awinter party and when the snow melts

in April or May a spring shakedowntour. In May the Spring Kick-Off Carshow in Osseo MN. It’s a goodreason to detail the car and get it out,I’ll try to give you a reason to keep itout till our fall colour tour. A newevent has been added to close outthe year. A Car Show will be atSponsels Apple Orchard in JordanMn. Oct 18th.

The last Picnic of this year atCherokee Park will be hosted by theMG club on Sept 27th. This is thesame weekend of the Waumandee hillclimb and a great way to finish theday. The Waumandee event starts onFriday and run on Saturday.Triumph’s usually win this event, andsupply a number of corner workers.Marsha and I ran 1/2 day and worked1/2 day last year.

Call Dick Leighninger 651-944-6064about accommodations. Tom Hazen612-237-1883 about volunteering andrunning.

I’m really looking forward to thisyear’s Fall colour tour, the start willbe October 12th @ Point DouglasPark 10am.

Let me know if you have an eventidea or if want to help out.

l hope to do a better job of filling inour event calendar next year. Some ofour members are limited to not goingto far from town, (babysitting) whileothers are retired now and are want todo longer multiple day trips. (emptynesters) I volunteer to do two drivingevents next year one short and onelong.

Who’s next?

If you can’t make it to the Octobermeeting, call or send me your ideasfor next year.

Tech session September 19

Bill Nelson’s TR7 was having trouble. Its starter motorwouldn’t turn off. The club members at his garage quicklysolved that problem. Of course, then the starter motorwouldn’t turn on at all. So an hour or two was spentlooking for disconnected/broken wires. None appearedand a new ignition switch didn’t help either. Cleaning thegunk off the front carb’s needle did allow it to operate butthat didn’t help the electrics.

Bill served lunch, running the huge risk that everyonewould desert him after their plates were empty. It didn’thappen. Burning with frustration, they went back to theengine bay. This time the investigation started at thebattery (whose charge had already been checked andfound to be barely adequate).

Positive and negative grounds were securely fastened. But, but. What was that? Two negative ground wires? Onewas much smaller than the other and hidden under thesurrounding components. Joe Demuth attached theinnocent-looking wire to ground. Securely. And bingo! Wehave ignition. Another successful Minnesota Triumphstech session.
