 LOCATION The Cajamarca Department is located to the North of the country, in the Western chain of the Andes and covers areas of mountains and jungle. The origin of the city of Cajamarca starts about 3 thousand years ago with the first human groups Huacaloma, Layzón, Cumbe Mayo and Otuzco. LIMITS It borders the North with Ecuador, on the South by La Libertad, on the East by  Amazon and on the West by Piura and Lambayeque. Has 13 provinces and 126 districts. Has an area of 35,417 square kilometers. Its population on passes 1 million inhabitants. ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES The economic activities that stand out most in the Department of Cajamarca are livestock and Agriculture and mining in recent times. The first economic activity is mining. The Yanacocha mine, founded in 1992, now with 52% owned by the international company Newmont Mining Corporation capital, extracted according to INEI between 2.5 (1993) and 102.3 (2005) metric tons per year of gold, [citation needed] in addition to mercury, representing about half of the annual gold production (2005) of the Peru. GASTRONOMY Cajamarca meal (typical dishes) the typical dishes are: the picante de cuy with Pope, the pork rinds with mote, the humitas, the Green suck, jerky shilpidas, Blancmange, preserved figs. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS Today Peru is the most important city of the sierra norte of the Peru. He lives a time of economic growth driven by the development of gold mining, traditional cattle, rain-fed agriculture. Cajamarca is known for its colonial and Baroque architecture, the city reflects the Spanish influence in the architecture of the Cathedral, the Temple of San Francisco, Bethlehem and the Recoleta; and its two floors and gabled houses. used to bathe and also because there are

the Ventanillas de Otuzco, set of niches of

the old inhabitants of the place.

In the province of Cajamarca is the

archaeological complex of Cumbemayo,

vestige of ceremonial altars and

aqueducts pre Inca and the province of

San Pablo, the ceremonial complex of

Kuntur Wasi, also pre inca, of several

squares and platforms supported by large

stone walls.
