Isabel graduated from MJC in 2013 with an Associated Degree in English, and holds knowledge relat-
ed to general humanities and anthropology. During her academic pursuits at MJC, she was a member
and later co-chair of MJC M.E.Ch.A.; as well as worked for TRIO Pre-College Programs as a tutor and
later Upward Bound instructor. She credits her academics, volunteering and working experience
while attending MJC as very vital to her professional and personal development. She thanks all the
counseling and staff support at TRIO/SSS; Career Development and Transfer Center; and MJC faculty,
for their never-ending encouragement and support throughout community college. She transferred
to UC Berkeley the Spring 2014; and completed her Bachelors degree in Development Studies in the
Spring of 2016, with an interdisciplinary focus on Development Studies, Geography, Education and
Latin America. While completing her studies, she served both undergraduate and graduate students
as a student worker for the Graduate School of Education, and volunteered for various student or-
ganizations and programs. Currently, she works for the UC Merced, School of Engineering Graduate
Program, providing graduate student support to both graduate students, faculty and staff. Looking
forward, Isabel hopes to attend graduate school in the near future, establish her own publishing
company, and continue creating short stories and animated works related to education, migration,
agriculture and the Central Valley.
