Dear Friends,When I was growing up, our family

sat down every weeknight for dinner without fail. It was a time for conversation, catching up on the day, and just talking together. Sometimes the conversation would get rather lively and sometimes the conversations got more like arguments, but we were still together. And every meal was a full meal even when we had leftovers. Never once do I remember that our dinner came wrapped, bagged or boxed. at’s just the way things were.

However, things are not that way anymore for many people. Given all the diff erent schedules and the racing from here to there, more and more people no longer sit down together for a full meal with family and friends. Rather, more and more people have what one columnist has called “food contacts.” e idea is to eat a little bit whenever you are hungry, but eat nutritious and nourishing foods if you can. erefore, a person may have 10-12 food contacts throughout the day. e other name for this practice is “grazing.” Instead of sitting down for three square meals a day people now graze here and there as they go through the day.

Someone has suggested that religion for more and more people has also become a matter of grazing. Instead of sitting down for a full course, today people seem to make “God contacts” here and there: they catch a religious program on TV, worship now and then, drop the kids off at Sunday School, maybe even meditate for a moment. It’s a diet food approach, even a fast food approach: it may satisfy for the moment, but you never feel full. Somehow you are always left a little empty.

Down through the centuries, one of the great images of the Christian faith has been that of the Great Banquet, the feast in the presence of God. It’s an image that speaks to the fullness, having our hunger satisfi ed, the emptiness taken away. But for that to happen, we must come in, sit down at the

table, go for the full course, be a part of the family. We must worship, serve, come to know one another, seek to learn, and be nourished by God and His Word. For that to happen, we must not just graze or nibble here and there, but rather, come in and feast on the love and strength of God.

e season of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22, is a good time to go in for the full course, to join one of the Lenten small groups studying “ ree Simple Questions” (see top of page 4 for more information), to worship every Sunday, to pray and meditate each day, to commit ourselves to serve Christ in whatever way we can, to reach out to others with care and support, to involve ourselves in ministry of the congregation or the community.

I invite you to join me and our church family for the full meal!

You are loved,

On a recent morning in Tallahassee, offi cials from the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home announced plans to build a second campus in nearby Madison County. is new residential campus will eventually be home to about 100 children ranging in age from eight to seventeen. rough the generosity of a local family, 120 acres near Madison were given for the development of a residential, therapeutic ranch that will off er equine therapy and other

outdoor activities for children who have been displaced from their families.

Like the Enterprise campus of the Children’s Home, the Madison Youth Ranch will provide a Christian, family-like atmosphere for the children and youth who come to live there, as well as therapeutic services to help them deal with the diffi cult issues they face. Equine

Second Campus for Children’s Hometherapy is relatively new, but studies have shown to be very eff ective with children and teens in teaching skills such as problem-solving, leadership, creative thinking, nonverbal communication, teamwork, and confi dence.

Plans for the youth ranch began over a year ago when a group of members from First United Methodist Church in Madison met with leaders from the Children’s

Home to discuss the possibility of e x p a n d i n g t h e services for children in North Florida by building another campus in Madison County. Since then a feasibility study has been completed, land donated, and funds for the first building pledged.

The success of fundraising efforts w i l l d e t e r m i n e the timetable, but

offi cials hope that the fi rst phase of the project, which will house twenty-four children, will be completed by 2014. is fi rst phase will include two homes for children, an administration building, chapel, horse stable, maintenance building, and home for the campus director. Later phases will add additional residential

So the new year has started and hopefully we are all ready f o r i t . Mine wasn’t starting out very good to be honest with you but then I decided to bring God in. Seems kind of obvious that one should do that, or one should have been doing that from the beginning, but I wasn’t. Through the holidays I got very busy and my schedule was not routine. There was so much happening at the beginning

of the year that I was just reacting and doing without giving much time to think or pray. Today is the 12th of January and I Stay current at

undergroundministries.org

finally stopped and spent some much needed time with God. And of course He was there, being so good and so faithful l i k e a l w a y s , and it changed everything! Boy did I need that

wake up call. Why do we forget that? Why are we surprised again and again that life is so much easier with God leading the way? We’ve learned that lesson before, but somehow we get off track again, and need

to realign ourselves with God in our daily lives. I am so thankful I took the time this morning to give it all to God and to listen for His guidance. It got me back on track, changing a couple of situations I was struggling with. I couldn’t be more pumped about God today, I’ve even changed my Facebook status (which happens so rarely) to say just that! So as we enter into 2012, I look forward to seeing what God will do and I encourage all of us to remember GOD IS SO

GOOD AND SO FAITHFUL! Let’s spend time with Him every day, and see what plans He has for us.

Summer Events

Trinity will be heading back to Warren W. Willis Summer Camp in Leesburg again this summer and we don’t want you to miss it. All children and youth (who will be in 4th grade in fall of 2012 through graduating seniors of 2012) who want to attend camp must register online this year at www.warrenwilliscamp.org. Trinity will be going the week of July 16th and the camp cost this year is $385. Register early to ensure your spot and remember to list Trinity as your church when registering.

Once you have registered your child or youth, please forward your confirmation email from camp to Kelly Rains at [email protected] to get further instructions for receiving the Trinity member assistance of $100 and to get a seat on our charter bus. As in years past, additional scholarships are also available through the camp itself. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly at 850-222-1120.

finally stopped and spent some much needed time with God. And of course He was there, being so good and so faithful l i k e a l w a y s , and it changed everything! Boy did I need that

to realign ourselves with God in our daily lives.
