MESSAGE FROM OUR MINISTERS:
Happy Summer everyone! In the area where I live, there are about 30 families within calling distance... and by calling, I mean talking across the fence, or in the driveway, or at the community mailbox or saying hello as we go to work and play. During the winter this rarely happens as we quickly move from our homes to our cars, or are so bundled up that we can't see one another! In the summer, we resume our conversations outside in the sun and reconnect after the long winter. Summer is a time of relaxation and reflection, a time for family and friends to visit, a time to connect with God in the beauty of creation. We watch the flowers and vegetables grow. Our trees candle and bud, the grass grows (and we cut it!), and we enjoy the longer daylight hours. It's a glorious time full of new life! In the church, we too have a slightly different way of being together. This year we are following the practice of the past few years and combining worship with Good Shepherd Anglican Church. This means we'll alternate between a United Church and Anglican Church led worship service each Sunday at 9:30am, beginning with a Trinity service on July 2nd (please look for the list of services in this issue). For the next 10 Sundays either Milly or I will be at each service (no matter who is leading it). One of us will lead on five of those Sundays. Like you, Milly and I will be off on vacation as we take our holiday time during July (Elizabeth) and August (Milly). The music will be led by either Laurence Broadhurst or David Tafelmeyer and I'm sure we'll all enjoy their wonderful talent and gifts on Sunday morning. We still need ushers, greeters, readers and people to pray so, if you'd like to contribute, please sign the bright green poster by the sanctuary door. We know that routines change during the summer and we hope that you will come to be with your church family and friends during the summer months. If you're here or away, please know that we'll hold you close, whisper to you across the pew, speak to you over coffee, or reconnect as we walk into church together. Milly and I are available for pastoral care throughout the summer, so if you or someone you know needs a visit or phone call, at home or hospital, please get in touch with us. We hope and pray that you will experience God's presence in your summer activities and conversations, in quiet sunrises or sunsets, alone or with a great crowd of folks. Elizabeth... for Milly and me!

APPLEBEE’S FLAPJACK FUNDRAISER ON APRIL 22ND
The Trinity and Good Shepherd annual Flapjack Breakfast Fundraiser was held at the Grant Park Applebee's Restaurant on April 22 and our established tradition of great attendance, a full tummy and lots of laughter and fun continued. Thanks to the hardworking volunteers from both congregations almost 130 breakfasts were served that morning. Once all the money was counted and all the bills were paid, Trinity’s profit for the event was $745.00!
The attendance at the Flapjack Fundraiser seems to be growing in both churches every year. Although we were concerned about attendance this year because we were unable to align the event with Shrove Tuesday, we needn’t have worried. It seems that a hearty fundraiser breakfast on a Saturday morning for a mere $10 is an attractive family event at most times of the year as evidenced the pictures below.

YOUTH GROUP LUNCHEON FUNDRAISER
AND
CELLO AND PIANO CONCERT
ON MAY 7TH
& The Youth Group spring luncheon fundraiser on May 7th was a success and raised well-deserved funds for
the many activities the youth group are pursuing. The two soup options (one vegetarian and the other,
hamburger soup) were simply delicious, and the homemade biscuits and homemade cookies added just the
right touch.
The luncheon was followed by a thoroughly enjoyable cello and piano concert in the church sanctuary
featuring Trinity’s own pianist, Nicola Davies and young Manitoba cellist, Nathaniel Froese. The hour-long
concert featured a variety of selections which brought out the unique capabilities of both the artists and
the instruments. The audience was absorbed in the music and, if the hearty applause at the end of the
performance is any indication, they loved every minute of the concert. Thank you to Nicola and Nathaniel.
THE QUILT SHOW ON MAY 13TH
AND 14TH
The annual Trinity Sew N Sews’ Quilt Show was held on Friday evening, May 13th and all day Saturday, May
14th. The Trinity Sew & Sews started a few years ago when 7 quilts were made for the Dr. Jessie Saulteaux
Resource Centre. Since that time four quilt shows have been held at Trinity with the profits going to the
church.
As usual, over 100 quilts were on display at the show. The quilts shown are made by members of the Sew N
Sews and their friends and acquaintances. (See the pictures on this year’s show on the next page). Between
quilt shows the group makes placemats for Meals on Wheels to distribute to their clients at Christmas.
Sew N Sews membership has changed slightly over the years, but the core group remains the same. New
members are welcome and one need not be an accomplished quilter to join. There are many involved who
are happy to give advice and assistance. Many members had never quilted before making those first quilts
with the Sew N Sews.

creativity of the quilts ... and ever the practical woman, she
was also able to pick up a couple of Christmas gifts for 2018!

TRINITY GARDENS 2017
Trinity Gardens is a great place to visit and get to know your neighbours!
In the early evening you will find many of the gardeners busy at work… but they always have time for a
quick visit. They will appreciate your interest! You may learn what new plants they are trying to grow from
their homeland, or some interesting fact from their past. In return, you may be asked for advice on how to
get rid of a certain bug or to identify some weeds. Regardless, you will leave refreshed, knowing that Trinity
Gardens is a welcoming place for all!
In 2017, we have 14 new gardeners - from a variety of places such as Syria, Bangladesh, Nigeria, China,
India, and even Canada! We have been challenged in our communications with some of the very new
families to Canada. Thankfully, we are blessed to have a very competent young woman from Yemen that
speaks Arabic and is pleased to translate for us. What a big help that is!
A new initiative this year is to involve the gardeners more in the general upkeep of the garden area. Each
gardener has volunteered to participate in various ways such as garbage clean up for a week, tidying the
shed or helping with the preparations in spring or clean up in the fall. Already, we can see the advantages of
this program. Everyone is taking more pride and ownership in the area and the feeling of community is
building.
Come visit! You will be glad you did!

WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS PARKING INITIATIVE 2017
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are underway for 2017 with two tie games in the pre-season. Our first “traffic and parking valet” event was on Thursday, June 15th and all went well. Forty-three Trinity folk have been fully trained in the new training initiative that involved both an on-line and an in-person session. Another four have done the on-line session and will be attending an in-person session shortly. Others will begin their training when they return from their cottages and holidays in late August or early September. Our first four games of the season are fully staffed. Our Bomber contacts, Elizabeth Brown and Marilyn Loat, are extremely pleased with the way the Bombers have accommodated us this year and we have been given the lot and intersection assignments that we requested. The people who are involved in this initiative will tell you they have found it to be a wonderful opportunity to get to know other members of Trinity better and just an all-around fun way to spend an evening or afternoon. For nourishment during the job a free Pita Pit sandwich is provided for all volunteers who wish one. Sign up sheets for volunteers are outside Elizabeth’s office. We require 15 volunteers for each event for about 6 hours. If you have any questions about the Bomber Parking Initiative, or you wish to get involved and take the training, please speak to Elizabeth Brown or Marilyn Loat.

A SUMMER PRAYER
Dear Lord:
I don't want to forget you, just because I'm off my normal routine.
Keep close to me, Lord, and remind me that my relationship with you should never take a break.
This summer will be full of new experiences for me. Perhaps I’ll vacation to places
I’ve never been before. Grow me, stretch me,
through whatever I do, and wherever I go,
so that I'll end the summer just a little more like you.

SOME HUMOUR TO LIGHTEN YOUR SUMMER DAY
GOD IS WATCHING Children were lined up in the cafeteria of a religious elementary school for lunch. At the beginning of the table was a large tray of apples with the following note posted on the tray: "Take only ONE. God is watching." At the other end of the line was a large tray of chocolate chip cookies. A little girl had written the following note and put it on the tray of cookies, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."
