A Farewell to Pastors Pastor Lou and Pastor Jess are both heading out of Trinity. Pastor Jess’s last day will be Sunday, Sept. 15. Pastor Lou will preside at Communion Coffee on Sept. 9, before heading off to Europe not too long after that. A farewell potluck luncheon for them is Sunday, Sept. 8, after the service. Last names A-M please bring salads or vegetable side dishes; last names N-Z, bring desserts. To help with set-up, see Tami McNemee. We’ll have a basket available for cards for them or you can mail to the church. Here are some final words for the congregation from them. Trinity family,

It is coming close to the end of my time at Trinity and I want to thank you for blessing me this past year. Again and again, you all showed me your gifts and you loved and accepted me. And many of you loved and embraced my dog Bonnie, too! I can honestly say that in 15 years of ministry and many of those years in church ministry, this was the best year in the pastorate. Some highlights for me included the youth mission trip, congregational conversations after church and the pet pantry and the Stephen ministry. I will remember each and every one of you fondly and the wonderful encounters would be too many to name though. I will always remember how you all rose to the task and truly found joy in being in community. Many churches say all are welcome at the table, or as their clergy, but they don't always live it. However, you all have embraced me in ways that were healing for me and you really lived it. You are embodying Christ in what you do and how you treat people and I am proud to have been a part of your community. Thank you for blessing me, for showing me love and concern, for challenging me into growth, and for giving me wonderful memories.

In Christ and with love, Pastor Jess Dear Members of Trinity,

It has been a joy to serve as your interim pastor over the past year. You are a faithful, loving and responsive community, and I am grateful for the honor of teaching and leading you in worship. Though my role will change now, I'll still be a member of Trinity. I look forward to seeing where God leads us in the years to come.

Gratefully yours, Lou Flessner

High School

Sunday School We plan to meet the first and third Sundays each month during education hour starting with rally day. Our “ theme” this year is “viewing the World while wearing your Jesus glasses”. We will also have multiple opportunities for volunteer work and socializing. Sarah Russell is working hard to make those opportunities happen. Thank you, Jennifer Martello

Because of the new recording device in the Sanctuary and the fact that it won't be playing through the sound system any longer, it is no longer necessary to keep quiet in the Sanctu-ary from 11-12 noon each Sunday Morning.

Fellowship Time We will have a fellowship time with coffee and snacks from 9:30-10 a.m. The study this fall will be the New Testament book of Hebrews. Please come and join us to study this very interesting and important book in our Bi-ble. Thanks, Julie Holmberg

You may not make a crater like a meteor does when it strikes the earth. You may not give a speech that people will be quoting for years to come. You may not perform some great feat that makes the TV evening news! BUT you can make an impact by answering God’s call to serve!! Our Stephen Ministers have an impact on people’s lives at times when they really need someone to care!

Is God calling you to a new area of service in your life? God will supply His goodness, gifts and grace with this training. A new Stephen Ministry training class will be starting in September. It’s not too late to say YES to use your gifts and talents in sharing Christ’s love with someone that may need a loving person to walk beside them thru a very difficult time in their life! Pray about this opportunity and consider a YES to be able to show God’s love in a tangible way to others! Contact one of the Stephen Leaders! Debra Black

Join a Trinity Ensemble!! Since the age of twelve, I’ve

been singing in ensembles and partaking in group music making… to say it’s had a positive impact on my life would be an understatement! Growing up and through my adult years, I have been blessed to be a part of choirs where quality music is sung at a high level, but the best part

is I get to do it alongside an amazing group of people. Here at Trinity, we hope to foster the same, but to build such a community, we need you! Trinity ensembles are starting soon, and we still have spots available! Please consider giving the gift of your time and talent to this musical ministry… We have a wonderful year of music making and community ahead! If you or your child are interested in joining an ensemble, but rehearsal times do not work with your schedule, please reach out regardless as we will be evaluating the set rehearsal times over the next couple of weeks. As you may or may not know, the Mission Endowment Committee receives interest quarterly from the ELCA Pooled Trust Fund I. That fund is now over $200,000 and contains monies donated by church members. If you wish to set aside or provide in your future planning for the church, you might want to look into ELCA Pooled Trust Fund I. The principal is not utilized and the interest flows into the Mission Investment Fund account which the Endowment Committee reviews at least 3 times a year. We ask committees and groups of the church to submit detailed written requests for funding at least 3 times a year, stating how the funding will meet the funding requirements of the Mission Endowment Committee. In 2019 so far, the committee has provided $1000 for

Stephen Ministry training, about $3000 for upgrading the sanctuary sound system, $1,434 for Youth Ministries ($700 for youth trip and $734 for furnishing for youth room), $1,500 toward painting of Bethany House, and $1,000 to the Pet Food Pantry for carts and moveable shelving. The committee also donated $1,000 toward the Synod trip to Papua New Guinea and $500 toward our sister congregations in Russia. All of these efforts provide outreach in some way or other to our church family and/or to the mission world outside our walls. Please let us know if you have any questions. Enter by south door to Fellowship Hall, off of 13th St. For: anyone needing pet supplies to take care of beloved pets instead of giving them up for adoption in hard times.

On Saturday, July 13, the Pet Pantry combined its normal food distribution in conjunction with its first vaccine clinic. While 158 pets were registered to be vaccinated, 81 pets came. This was another wonderful collaboration with the Lawrence Humane Society, one they hope to continue to improve the lives of Lawrence pets. The Pet Pantry is especially grateful to all the volunteers that came to help with this special event including the sizable Lawrence Humane Society team. Special thanks go to Dr. Stone who administered vaccines to the cats and Dr. King who administered vaccines to the dogs. Alisa Farinelli from the Lawrence Humane Society

and Susan Hadl of Pet Pantry are to be commended for their leadership at this event. The pantry frequently feeds 500+ pets a week. If you’d like to volunteer with the pantry, contact Chrissy Davenport, 785-218-2027, or Susan Hadl, 785-842-7291.

Friday, 9 a.m.: Set up for Saturday distribution

Saturday mornings: Bag pet food, serve clients when the pantry is open. We

serve from the south door facing 13th St., from 10 a.m.-12 noon.

Cat food (dry & canned) & litter needed most.

Can’t shop? Monetary donations are welcome to buy what’s most needed.

Know someone grieving a pet’s death? Perhaps a contribution to our pet pantry in the pet’s name will bring some comfort. Find a special card from the Welcome desk to the pet’s owner, noting your donation honoring the pet.
