Dear friends in Christ,
I’m not exactly sure why this has been the case, but it seems I’ve no-
ticed that as the students are returning to Prince of Peace for the
school year…well, some of those children did a lot of growing over
the summer! In fact, I told one student that I was glad he had kept the
same face because he had grown so much taller over the summer, and
that if he wouldn’t have kept the same face, I wouldn’t have been able to recognize him because
of his growth spurt!
Kids just keep growing, don’t they!
But what about you and me? Have we continued growing? I ask that with especially this in mind
– our continued growth in the grace of our Lord and our knowledge of Him. 2 Peter 3:18 gives us
this encouragement: “But keep growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ.”
Will you?
Here’s how I like to think of it. Think of it as being a life-long learner with regards to your
Christian faith. Think of it as there always being something you can learn about your faith in Je-
sus. No matter how many times you’ve read your way through the Bible or how many years you
have faithfully attended worship, there is still always room for each of us to grow in the grace and
the knowledge of our Lord and Savior.
Will you?
If you haven’t been in the habit of either staying after the early service or coming before the late
service so that you can participate in our Sunday morning Bible
studies, let me encourage you to do just that! I am confident you
will be blessed as you join with your fellow sisters and brothers in
Christ in growing in His grace and in the knowledge of Jesus
through the study of His Word. Become a life-long learner!
In fact, I want to invite you to join our Sunday morning Bible class
as we resume our study of God’s Word on Rally Day, Sunday,
September 11th between the services. We’ll start around 9:25 and
end around 10:15. Our study, “Psalms for Every Day Life”, will
take us into the Psalms which speak so powerfully to so many situ-
ations in life. Please come and join us! Being a life-long learner
is a “grace” way to live!
In Christ, Pastor Dave Strohschein

I invite you to come to the next new member class!
Some of the questions discussed in this course are:
How can we know there is a God? Can you know for sure that you will go to Heaven? Can you lose your salvation? Whose sins are forgiven and whose sins are not forgiven?
If you are considering membership here at Trinity and you have not been confirmed in the
Lutheran Church this is the “Adult Confirmation Class” required for membership.
If you are transferring here from another Lutheran church I encourage you to take the class
because Bible study is always an opportunity to learn and it helps me to get to know you so that I may
assist you in becoming an active member.
For those that finish this nine-week class and want to pursue membership here at Trinity there is
three-week Spiritual Gift discovery process and then a new member reception on Sunday December
11th, 2016 that will give you the opportunity to publicly declare your devotion to the fellowship here at
Trinity. If you complete the class and you are not sure about membership there is no obligation to join.
The first class is Sunday September 18th at 9:15 a.m. in the Large Classroom. If you have
children between the ages of 3 years to High School they can be in their Sunday school class at the same
time. Also, if you have need for the Nursery for younger children it too will be available.
Current members of Trinity may want to take this class as a refresher on the basics of the
Christian Faith from a Lutheran perspective.
There is no cost or pre-registration necessary, just come on Sunday September 18th. The coffee
pot will be on and I hope to see you in class!

“Bless the Backpacks Sunday”
Sunday, September 11th is our Rally Day with the beginning of
Sunday School and the resumption of our Sunday morning Bible
class. It will also be “Bless the Backpack Sunday!”
We want each of our Trinity children to know that as a congrega-
tion we are behind them 100% as they begin the new school year.
What better way for us to do that as a congregation than to have a special time of blessing within
the services that morning for all of our students no matter which school they are attending. We in-
vite all of our children to bring their backpacks with them. During the service we will ask them all
to come forward for a time of prayer and blessing and to receive a surprise gift!
Mom’s and Dad’s – please set aside Rally Day! Bring your children to worship so they can partici-
pate in Backpack Sunday. Enroll them in Sunday School! And join them in Christian Education by
attending our Sunday morning Adult Bible class!
Prince of Peace News With “Celebrating God’s Gifts” as our theme, school opened for the 2016/2017 school year on Wednesday, August 24th. We thank God for each of the 111 students enrolled for this year, an increase of 17 students from last year. Perhaps the most exciting is our full Kindergarten classroom with 24 students. We are also pleased to have 14 students in grades 7 and 8. Our 2nd Annual Golf Day went very well, providing more than $9,000 for our scholarship fund. 14 teams enjoyed a great day of fellowship and golf at the St. Cloud Country Club in support of our school. We are most grateful to all of the businesses who generously sponsored a hole for the day. We also owe a special word of thanks to Trinity member Evora Sorokie. Evora has volunteered to become our school librarian. She has given a lot of hours to organize our library holdings. Her work is amazing and our library has never looked better or been more organized. Thank you, Evora! Trinity has two members who serve on the Prince of Peace School Board to represent our congregation. We are thankful for John Sprengeler and Lloyd Karls for the leadership they are providing to our school. Would you like to consider adopting a student for this year? We would ask you to please prayerfully consider providing all or a part of the tuition for one student ($3,700). Firmly believing in the ministry of Christian education and the blessing it is to any child who receives their education in a Christ-centered environment, this is a wonderful opportunity to make an eternal difference in the lives of one of God’s children as well as being a blessing to their family. Contact Pastor Dave for more information about this or the school.

Worship and Music Notes
From Everlasting to Everlasting
I recently finished a book entitled “The Priest” by Francine Rivers telling the account of the Exodus
from Aaron’s perspective. I was reminded of how disobedient the Israelites were and found it easy
to wonder how they could be so repetitive in their sins against the Lord. Until I saw the parallel in my
life. Day in and day out I fall prey to temptations and sins that stubbornly cling and creep into my
thoughts and actions. How patient God is with me as well as the Israelites. His mercies and promises
are eternal. It was Aaron’s responsibility as High Priest to offer the daily sacrifices. He was humbled
before the Lord and felt uneven to the task. Towards the end of the book he prayed that God would
send a High Priest that would once and for all fulfill the high priestly duties perfectly to cleanse all sins
forever.
Our High Priest, Jesus, has done all that was required of the Law perfectly and atoned for all of our
sins. How thankful I am for the love and forgiveness that I (and all of God’s children) have received
though the perfect sacrifice of our Great High Priest. Psalm 90:1-2 is a prayer from Moses:
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were
born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
I find great comfort in these words. The LORD who was present in the cloud by day and pillar of fire
by night is also with me though all my life. Daily struggles will still be experienced, but I know that I am
cared for, loved, and forgiven though it all.
How Can I Keep from Singing?
I am excited for our music programs to get under way this month. Watch for opportunities to RING
and/or SING. Our Handbell Choir will practice on Tuesday nights at 6:30 and our Adult Choir will
practice on Wednesday nights at 6:30. Watch your bulletin for more details on dates and times. Ruth
and I will be working together to provide leadership and organization to these choirs and we are
counting on YOU to make them successful.
Come, let us join our cheerful songs with angels round the throne;
Ten thousand thousand are their tongues, but all their joys are one.
Jesus is worthy to receive honor and power divine;
And blessings more than we can give be, Lord, forever Thine.
LSB 812:1 & 3
God’s blessings to you as you continue in your songs of praise to Him who is
from everlasting to everlasting. Amen. Alleluia.

NEWS FROM LUTHERAN ISLAND CAMP
We are well into the last week of camp for Summer
2017. It has been a good summer in many different
respects. While overall attendance was down because
of a downturn in teens (they were in New Orleans for
the National Youth Gathering) our regular programs
actually saw an increase in partici-
pation. Much of this came in
significant in- creases in our
Day Camp program. We
have started to work on next
year’s schedule and hope to
announce it in the next week or so.
Our Fall Work Weekend is October 8th. If you want to
come in earlier, please give us a call. There are lots of
projects that we need your help with! Give us a call to
find out what trees you might want to bring along to
help us.
Would you like to conclude your summer with a great
weekend at Lutheran Is-
land Camp? We have our
Holiday Family Weekend
Getaway coming up over
Labor Day weekend. The
cost is $85 per person
with family rate not to ex-
clude $350. That includes
your food, lodging and
activities.
God's Grub
God's Grub will be starting up on Sept. 7th. We will be serving a "kid friendly
meal" from 5-6 each Wednesday night. Come join in family time, fellowship & a night off from cooking!
Any questions please contact Jennifer Kurash 253-2212.

“More Than Enough”
Planned Giving Stories for Christian Stewards
After working for decades as a pediatrician in a
small rural town, Patricia was ready to retire.
Patricia: I bought some stock a number of
years ago and overall this was a good investment
for me. However, I was uncertain about leaving
my savings in the market where I knew it could
go up or down. I was also looking for security
for my retirement years. Ideally, I wanted to
know that I would have the income I needed and
that it would not change with the markets.
Patricia talked to a friend who had found a good
choice. Her friend had set up a gift annuity with
her favorite charity. Patricia thought that per-
haps a gift annuity would be helpful for her.
Patricia: I called my church's gift planning
counselor and asked about a gift annuity. I was
very pleased to discover that I would receive a
good payout based on my age. Plus, there would
be a charitable tax deduction and part of the in-
come would be tax free. I transferred my stock
for a charitable gift annuity. I avoided part of
the capital gains tax and my CPA was pleased
that my charitable deduction will save taxes this
year. With my tax savings and increased in-
come, I plan to spend more on my grandchildren
this year!
Information and confidential consultation about
planned giving options that might benefit you -
such as a charitable gift annuity - can be ob-
tained by contacting either Mr. David Priebe, re-
tired business attorney (612)508-4640; or Mr.
George Miller (800)482-5022. Both David and
George are Gift Planning Counselors for the MN
North District - LCMS.
