Let’s also remember in prayer all those affected by the COVID19 pandemic; those who are
first responders and caretakers, those who are ill, those with family or friends with illness
and those suffering anxiety or depression.
Quilting has resumed on Mondays at 9 a.m. in Thompson Hall, ending at 11:30. We will limit participants to 6 as per COVID19 guidelines. To ensure that, Joanne Schwartz will be calling/emailing members for each Monday. Questions? Call Joanne at 253-383-3321.
Prayers For the World
The Trinity Lutheran/Pacific Lutheran University-sponsored PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD Friday morning devotionals have resumed at its usual time of 10:30 am. Instead of being held at the PLU campus, the gatherings are held via Zoom.
To access the Friday prayers for the world, interested people should email Pastor Jonette for the link: [email protected].
TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH WOMEN (TLCW) OCTOBER CIRCLE MEETINGS
The GATHER Magazine Bible Study for Fall is entitled “Holy Time”. The author, Meghan Johnston Aelabouni, and WELCA have made the study available for us digitally in three video presentations. (September, October, and November)
Circles will gather in the Narthex on the 3rd Thursday, 10/15/20 for our study.
Miriam Circle -- 10:00 – 12:00 am and Esther Circle – 1:00 – 3:00 pm
We will view the introduction to the Study and then after a brief summary of the September study – “Holy Memory”, we will watch the October study – “Holy Now” and share questions/ideas.
The November study - “Holy Future” will be shared together, again, on the 3rd Thursday of November 11/19/2020.
Be sure to mark your calendars - Bring your GATHER issues and face covering.
Come if you can. We will be social distancing. See you there!
Communion Service via Zoom
Wednesday, October 21st
we will hold a communion service via Zoom.
To participate, you can connect either by computer or by phone. Sign-in begins at
6:30 with the service itself beginning at 7:00 pm.
Contact Pastor Jeff at [email protected] or 253-495-9357 or Pastor Jonette at
[email protected] or 253-318-5947 to obtain the Zoom link or telephone
number.
To prepare for the service, we suggest you have wine and bread for each participant
at your site and a candle with a match or lighter. We look forward to sharing this
experience with you!
News From the Pantry
From the trees, the vines, the soil….such abundant fruits from the earth
are being shared with our community each week because of the generous
donations from Trinity gardeners and growers! Folks do so appreciate the
home grown freshness and healthiness of your offerings. …and we are
treated to stories of Grandmother’s plum jam, an old apple tree they
climbed, or Aunt Ruth’s home canned pears! Thank you!
Hearts and faces behind the numbers: As noted in previous writings, the
Trinity Feeding Ministry has been blessed with an increase in donations and
the recipient of new grants.
A business woman in Parkland, a friend of a friend, neighbors, food pantry
clients, a gentleman who was just driving by…the caring and concern is over
whelming…and the food pantry volunteers themselves are ALWAYS arriving
with contributions! This is COMMUNITY in action!
Autumn greetings and peace to all.
I am not sure about any of you, but I am still trying to figure out what my new normal is. How to enjoy family and friend time together, meals together, Worship together, men’s bible study, work, volunteer work, daily errands, etc. At times I feel the path of least resistance is best, at least during these times it is safer. I often think that I have become a lazy Christian. At least from the standpoint that I am not as active at Trinity as I was last year or the year before. Then I am reminded that it not through works that establishes my Christian foundation. But rather God’s grace through Jesus Christ and my faith in the Triune God.
Below is a short list of Men’s activities and other volunteer opportunities coming in October. These will offer some relief for those that might be experiencing cabin fever or a need to ex-perience something different.
October 17th, Saturday @ 9am to noon will be our last cemetery clean up #9 for 2020. Please contact Eric Kuester or myself if you have any questions. The cemetery is located at: 13600 8th Ave E Tacoma 98444, one mile east of Pacific Ave off 138th.
Oct 19th, Monday @ 6pm Men’s bible study via Zoom or in Trinitys Narthex. We will be studying Romans 13. Even this 5 year old study has taken on a new dimension, virtually. We have lost a few who do not have the technology, but also have a few new men be-cause of this technology. Hope you will join us as the 90 minutes of study and fellowship always amazes me in where the Holy Spirit leads us. Your questions and experiences are most beneficial and always welcome. Please contact Pastor Jeff or myself for the Zoom link or more information on meeting in the Narthex. Mask and social distancing is required.
Friday and Sunday afternoon in the Trinity Food Pantry. College is back in school, at least virtually and there are volunteer openings on both Friday and Sunday as students return to school. Please contact Wanda Wentworth, Virginia Garrison or myself for more information.
OCT thru DEC Saturday’s have Habitat for Humanity providing Building on Faith with local house building opportunities. Small men’s groups of 3-5 can register for a Saturday or multiple Saturdays to pick up a hammer and saw, paint, install landscape. We have a couple men interested so a couple more would make a Saturday team. Let me know if you are interested. There is a preregister requirement.
TLCW interior storage shelf building. Some one who likes to use their hands, and head and has experience is needed here to provide ideas and time to construct some interior storage for the Trinity Lutheran Church Women.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to see or hear from you soon. Hank Mays [email protected]
Return of CONNECT for Youth
Connect gatherings are being held via Zoom. These sessions are led by Kiah Miller, a member of our Trinity community and junior at PLU! We look for her to bring excitement to the youth in this new way of “connecting”. Plan on participating! Interested people should email Kiah MIller at [email protected].
LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF The good news is that there will be a fall ingathering in Seattle in late October. Because of Covid 19 it will look different in that it will be done by appointment over a four day period. It will be handled there by professional movers rather than the usual volunteers. Only one container will be loaded so there may not be room for everything but other shipments may be added before spring.
The most urgent need right now is for Personal Care Kits. To complete the kits our greatest need is bath towels and soap. Donations may be left in Beth’s office or in the Narthex.
School kits and Personal Care Kits will need assembling. There will be no work parties this time but we would welcome help from individuals or socially distanced pairs. Please call Juanita at 253 531-9183 if you can help or if you have questions.
Thank you all for your continued faithfulness to the work of Lutheran World Relief. We look forward to the day when we can be together in person for worship and fellowship.
Sunday, November First is All Saints’ Day!
It has been our practice now for several years to honor on
All Saints’ Day all those saints who’ve gone before us by
displaying photos and mementos in the Narthex. Because
of our circumstances of no in-person worship services as
yet, Trinity’s staff members decided to honor our beloved
saints with a visual display of another type...all electronic!
To submit a photo for inclusion in the presentation, please
send a digital version to Pastor Jeff at [email protected].
Don’t have a digital copy? Ask to arrange a scan of your
picture at the church office — 253-537-0201.
